Aww man you made me crave some Tommy’s now! Might have to pick some up to watch the game. Mikki Moore also might make his debut for the Celtics tonight and it’ll be interesting to see big ass Z-Bo vs Perkins. Those are two of the shortest tempered, big angry lookin dudes lol.
Clipper Speakeasy Reply: February 25th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
It worked a couple times and he fell in love with it, as is his tendency. Even after the Celtics — one of the best defensive teams in the league — figured it out, Dunleavy kept with it. Maddening. Dunleavy seemingly forgot that the reason they were in the game was good ball movement. It’s like he was on a bad trip and was confusing Collins/Jones for Cassell/Brand.
My favorite clipper game i have watched in the last couple years. They played with heart!?!?! Jones and Collins really brought the energy on the defensive side of the ball(as well as offensive at times). Maybe most exciting–Baron played with passion.
YES! Finally! What a game! I don’t want to hear any negatives (I know there are a few) until Kevin writes up his post game analysis! Mardy Collins drawing a double team! Baron Davis not shooting ridiculous 3’s (all the time), but instead taking it to the hoop!! Coming back from 9 points down instead of giving up! Getting a win!
This is why I became a Clipper fan, all around effort, some by Mardy, Boom Dizzle, ZBo, Camby with the 2 offensive boards + put backs, Fred Jones with the 3 as the shot clock winds down. YESSSS.
I’ll have a smile on my face for the rest of the night.
Games like this are why I’m a fan too. Boston is still playing for Home Court, but the only thing the Clips had to gain with this win was a little lost pride. It’s nice to see the under-appreciated guys win once in a while.
I’m beginning to think the one thing wrong with this team (aside from maddening injuries, fire Jasen Powell by the way) is the mere presence of Ricky Davis. Seriously, Cleveland, Boston, Minnesota, Miami all won less than 20 games with him. Keep the team together, waive him, and we might just be as good on the court as we are on paper.
You won’t win many games running the same play 10 times in a row with the worst shooter on the court, getting lucky having the other team miss free throws, knocking down hail mary threes at the buzzer by guys on 10 day contracts, and catching air ball rebounds for game winner put backs. This coach needs to be fired, and Baron Davis needs to grow up. He tried his best to get a technical after he fouled out to ruin it for his team. He said 3 magic words that I could count. Funny to see them celebrate like they won the title after winning a sloppy game against a KG-less Celtic team…
Gordon for President Reply: February 25th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
How can you hate on this? This same KG-less Celtic team just raped the Suns and Nuggets on the road. We played the game minus two starters, and still pulled it out.
With Randolph and Camby in the line up at the same time, we’re a respectable team.
EricGordonsAnkleBrace Reply: February 25th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
We are 15 and 40 whatever for a reason, you can be blinded by a lucky win and swayed into buying another season ticket plan of futility or you can realize this team is a joke, take a second to watch the game critically and figure out which problems need to be fixed. Twit bitch.
Gordon for President Reply: February 25th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
As I said, it’s clear what problems need to be fixed, and that’s the training staff. Explain why Shaq has been revitalized by Phoenix (the same staff that has Grant Hill playing games on his bionic ankle with no problem, and Amare coming back better than ever from microfracture), and Jasen Powell has Collins sit out a month with a strained right calf and hangnail.
It’s a cliche, but I chalk it up to injuries. With a full, healthy line-up this team has hope, even under MDSr.
EricGordonsAnkleBrace Reply: February 25th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
True, Powell needs to go back to community college to get his ointment rubbing sports medicine degree.
So funny to see one win has everyone off Dunleavy’s case even though we won in spite of he and BD not because of them.
Gordon for President Reply: February 25th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Not off his case, he definitely has problems. Sam-I-Am was interviewed during the game about possibly being an assistant coach. His words, “If the Clippers come calling, I’ll come home”. Be sweet to see him join the staff, and eventually replace MDSr. next season. Dunleavy is a decent GM, and Sam could pull an Avery. Lot of a ifs, but that’s the nature of this franchise.
Cappy Reply: February 26th, 2009 at 12:36 am
I’d rather just get Avery. He already pulled an Avery. I loved Sam as a player, but I think he’s going to have a really hard time managing stars in this league. I think he’s ego’s a little too big and his mouth is a little too fast. I hope I’m wrong and that he has a great coaching career. But to me, he seems as likely to be an Isiah Thaomas as he does an Avery Johnson.
You are just pathetic to write this garbage after such a hard fought win. We missed more FTs than Boston tonite and still won. And we were missing key players as well, not just the Celts.
Awesome Win!!! Now fire powell before more players go down. How many players do we have to lose before he gets the boot?!!! Get a trainer that knows what he is doing!!!
there’s always some fool that has to say some bs to ruin a win. whatever.
great win. sloppy and scary at the end but still a great effort. people gotta stop giving baron crap and give him praise when it’s due. i really hope ej is okay though. we have to stop this curse. maybe we can have some of these clipper haters leave this blog for a start.
I was at the game, the greatest thing about the game was when the clippers were doing well, the clipper fans would cheer and the celtics fan booed. Then a laker fan would cheer on the clippers and in unison, fans from both team would scream “sit down kobe” “lakers suck”
The Collins plays were the finest pieces of coaching Dunleavy has shown all season. Any success Collins has embarrasses Pierce. He then tries to beat Collins when the Celtics have the ball. Tires himself out. Removes Ray Allen from the offense. Eventually gets Pierce so frustrated that he gets himself a technical. Dunleavy had Pierce thinking about Mardy effin’ Collins. It’s a no win for Pierce. And a nice win for the Clippers.
Yeah, but I think you’re missing the point. Dunleavy was coaching so clearly it was the wrong move.
Our team has a horrible record and that has got to be entirely his fault. There is no other explanation. Never mind that when we’re healthy the team has preformed pretty much like he’s said they would. But the injuries, like everything else, are both his fault and Powell’s. We should immediately fire Powell and hire a faith healer. Someone that can mend a torn ligament by laying hands on it. We should also fire Dunleavy and replace him with whoever first came up with the DUNCEleavy pun. That guy’s got to be a basketball genius. No way someone who came up with “DUNCEleavy” would be lost on the sidelines as they come to realize they have absolutely no idea where to even begin to deal with the complexities of NBA basketball.
I think your missing the point again. Eric Gordon IS a bust. We’re 15-43 after all and he’s the only one to play every game. Dunleavy even missed a game when his mother-in-law died. In that regard, Gordon my be the one MOST responsible for the Clippers woes. Gordon’s also failed to heal his injured teammates with magic hands. Also DUNCEleavy picked Gordon, was excited about him and speaks highly of him. I heard Baron say something nice about him after the Warriors game too. If a fat, lazy Point Guard who’s frustration sometimes shows on the court (even if he’s the most talented #1 we’ve ever had) likes him, then I don’t want anything to do with him.
Running plays for Mardy was exploiting a mismatch which is a no brainer and not bad basketball. Mardy’s got size and he’s pretty decent for an also ran.
I just got back from the game and man it was fun! Great win! I’m really surprised by all the negative comments here after a game like this. I didn’t think it was even possible to be a fair-weather Clippers fan, but there appear to be quite a few here.
This was a grat win, we are now 11 and 6 when Z-bo plays 30+ minutes. ONe critic would be not going after Perkins to get him to foul out, he is a defensive beast and gave Z-Bo fits. It was great seeing Mardy school Paul Pierce. Ricky Davis is pretty much worthless, Collins and Fred Jones should get all of Ricky’s minutes.
Ricky Davis is the one guy on the team I can’t bring myself to sarcastically defend. Sorry Ricky, but this team probably would be better off without you. The upside? At least your not Marbury.
