Way to early in his career to bail on Al Thornton.

Re: Cassel, certainly was fun as a Clipper but he needs to chill for a few years and learn the job. He's got a flamboyant ego which as a coach he must control and not overwhelm the active stars of the team. He's a loudmouth and often verbally out of control. With the worst owner in professional sports adding Cassel as coach feels like a prescription for even more Clipper disasters. The team needs a coach who has already worked out the kinks in his transition from player to coach and the point of view change at it's core.
Clippers also need a coach who can communicate effectively with Sterling. Sterling only wants a guy who will be subserviant to his "genius" and will agree to work cheaper then any other NBA coach. Hmm that could be Sam, N.G.

Picking YK over Granger was total stupidity but Dunleavy is far from the only guy who passed on Danny. Either way, that is not enough reason to fire anybody - although there are plenty of other reasons to get rid of Dun. On the other hand, I'd love to see Dunleavy live the day where he gets to coach this team at full strength because I think we'd give a lot of teams a run for their money. Even with Dunleavy as coach.

That would be perfect. But Al may not like it. Trading him for the right exchange might help. We need to invest in 2 more reliable role players.

I know Kevin is no fan of Al Thornton, I don't like his inconsistancy but I still feel he is a very good offensive player, however I was curious what you guys felt about maybe starting Mardy at the 3 and have Al be the 6th man. Give Al Ricky Davis' minutes and maybe 30 miutes a game total at the 3, kinda like the blazers do with Travis Outlaw and Nicolas Batum, Batum starts for his defense and Outlaw comes in with the 2nd unit and provides a great scoring punch.

This is a legitimate question because I'm really thinking about it...What coaches have been hired without previous assistant experience, and which of them were successful? The first that comes to mind is Del Negro this year and he had a bumpy start, with mixed results, jury still out. Spoelstra is probably the opposite side of the argument, never played in the nba but has years of bench/film/scouting experience. Which would you rather have?
