Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

Eltonfreude

Posted by Kevin Arnovitz on June 25, 2009 at 12:20 pm

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

An NBA source has confirmed that Stefanski has shopped power forward Elton Brand, last off-season’s blockbuster acquisition. That same source indicated Brand is unlikely to be traded because he has four years and $65 million left on his deal and has health concerns because his last two seasons ended in injury.

Here’s a tough one for you (and one that’s purely intended as a hypothetical exercise): Would you rather have Brand with four years and $65M remaining, or Zach Randolph with two years and $33.3M? When you factor in character, which is the more odious contract?

For the sake of the game, suppose the Clippers don’t have Blake Griffin in the mail.

I would rather have 20 Zach Randolph contracts than 1 Brand contract. I haven’t forgotten what that backstabber FElton did to us last year. He’s the 76er’s problem now.

I’d take Elton over Zach anyday. Yep, we all think he screwed us but it happened and you move on. As far as I’m aware, he’s not bad mouthed the Clippers since he left.
On the court, there is no comparison to me. I’d take the guy who leaves everything on the court everytime he plays over the guy who wants some stats but doesn’t want to do the hard work on D.
Elton just doesn’t fit in Philly. He’ll fit somewhere else though. Would do nicely in Chicago.

Elton is a better player, but I was glad we got Randolph to help with the scoring but his defense just sucks. I’m over Elton and he’s just like a Laker player who I hate hate hate. I don’t give him a second thought aside from getting happy for a brief moment anytime his team loses or they make it to the playoffs without any of his help. I bet the 76ers wish they hadn’t given him that contract, now. With his injuries we are lucky!

rather have zach based purley on the lesser commitment.
putting all love/hate for EB aside, i have serious doubts about his ability to stay healthy for even the better part of his deal.
in hindsight, we’re lucky not to be stuck with that one.

If we did not have Blake Griffin, I’d think I’d want Elton back. The injury thing is troubling, but he’s 20/10 and plays defense. But, I’d take what we have now over that without question.

I’d rather have Yaroslav Koralev that a traitor like Brand. He deserves every shitty thing that happens to him after skipping town in the middle of the night and leaving B.D. holding the bag. That’s just not cool. Karma is a bitch you zit faced traitor and you’re going to find out just what a mistake you made. Man, I was your biggest fan and you treated me and the rest of the Clipper nation like we were dog shit on your shoe. I guess the laughs on you big man.

Given that Brand didn’t miss two seasons for the same injury, and there is still good chance he’s got lots of healthy years ahead of him, I’d say brand. That’s a chance that could go very wrong though.

Zbo is a scoring machine who demands a double team. EB just recently developed a consistent outside jumper. I’m not sure what the “character” issue is. Zbo got a dui. That’s just life in l.a. If you put up a checkpoint outside staples center after a game the only thing keeping 1/2 the crowd from getting a dui is the fact that the beers are $12 each. EB is the one with a character issue; someone who does not honor his word and follows the advice of david falk like a hippie chick listening to charlie manson. the only reason EB is coming back to l.a. would be to make Rescue Dawn II Gitmo Boogaloo.

My issue with Zach isn’t his character, but rather his defense.

A silly stat you guys might remember is the Eddy Curry Line…players that average more TOs than Ast+Stl+Blk. Randolph’s name is always at the very top of the list…although thankfully after curry’s.

Zbo in a heartbeat. He’s a better player make no doubts about it. Brand gets shut down at the end of games because he’s too short to play in the post. You guys have all forgotten how the clippers would have a lead and then suddenly in the 4th quarter teams would clamp down on Brand the and we would lose the game. ZBo problem is the Dumbleaveme would run the offense thru him too much and we got predictable. He’s really unstoppable. I hope there is away to play him and BG at the same time, some twin towers stuff. But Zbo in a heart beat!
