clipper fandom. ok a bit dramatic… but would any of you have been REALLY surprised if this thing fell apart?

Thanks KA! Kickin asses all over ESPN…

When I got the Clippers text, I swear, a slight tear of joy fell down my cheek…

(And yes, I completely expected it to fall apart.)

Welcome back QRich. Hope that back doesn’t tighten up on the bench.

Get Earl Watson (who was just waived by Thunder) and reunite with his Bruin backcourt mate Baron. Earl can be that “glue guy” off the bench at both guard positions (he played SG b4 at UCLA) and he’s a solid defender, not to mention, high Assist/TO ratio.

as a ucla alum (and i was there when he was playing) i don’t really think earl at the 2 guard is a good idea. he is a pretty bad shooter even in the nba.

it would be interesting though, if he’d take the low level exception (which he probably wont)

What about Tinsley for back up PG? Once the Pacers finally let him go that is. Word is he’s in great shape. Or Nate Robinson over Sessions? Since the Knicks won’t match/more open to sign and trade

if sterling wants to boost attendance why not sign Little Nate? Tinsley is more of a last ditch effort but when he was allowed to play he was good, good enough to be a back up PG.

i believe Nate would sell more tix than AI. it’s the shelf life. AI is just way more played out from a fan perspective (love him or hate him) wheras Nate’s shit is still sort of fresh and entertaining.

One more black hole to go… If we can get rid of Baron and not have to take back any bad contracts, think of the players we could get for the 30-million (between Baron and Zach) we would have just gotten off the books…

Honestly, I still have hope for Baron. Hes at least shown in his career that he can lead a losing team to a playoff berth multiple times. He did it with the Hornets and again with GS. AI on the other hand had his best years with Larry Brown and even they fought like cats and dogs about every little thing. I think Baron knows his best games come is when he makes others better, and with the young guys here with so much potential, I think he’ll be working hard to set them up they way they need to be set up. I think Baron will adapt to not having to be the primary scorer much better than a guy like AI.

The more I think about it, the more I hope the clips go for Iverson. He’s got a black eye right now(after the Nuggets were so much better without him). I dont think we are gonna get Sessions. If it by some chance works out and Iverson accepts his role —its a home run. If not, its a one year deal–trade him, cut him, send him home. But IF it works(huge huge if) the clippers will get a lot of exposure. We need LA to become a desired FA destination.

As a businessman and a basketball fan I would make this deal happen. There has got to be a very short leash though.

no, if iverson accepts his role its a one year deal. If not its lots of dribbling, lots of shooting, lots of missed 3′s, no defense.

I like Iverson, but you know he’s gonna blow off Dunleavy’s play calling. Then Dunleavy will sit him and he’s out with a bad back for the rest of the year. He put in Q Ross instead of Maggette cus of matchups or what ever.

AI and Baron have something in common, stars with hurt egos. Look at wade last year , he was embarrassed the year before and came to prove he still has it. In no other sport is a motivated star more lethal.

I keep reading sterling wants AI because of ticket sales. Season packages will be down but I have no doubt once the season starts and ppl see how good Blake is that single game sales will be high. He has to accept the fact that clipper fans just got smarter. We don’t want to fork over for 82 games of crap.

Whether it’s for ticket sales or not, AI, if he’s willing to come off the bench, will provide good scoring for the second unit. Who cares what Sterling thinks. He was wrong so many times before.

For some reason i just see Charlotte as the best place for AI. I understand Sterlings perspective but I dont think he’s really considering all the finer details of what adding AI actually means on the floor. I have lots of love for AI but he just seems like a square peg for the round hole we have on the roster.

There is something to be said though for getting AI as a trade peice, but I think many other GMs worry about his impact in the locker room as well. The only coach who could really channel and focus AIs bountiful energy into something productive has been Larry Brown. After 12 years, thats kind of a huge warning sign.

I think people are really being fooled by our bench scoring last season. We really had a hard time scoring the ball last season with our 2nd unit. We did not have a go-to scorer at all. Nobody to create their own shot. When it was time for our starters to get a rest, this is when the opposing teams made their run, since we didn’t have any firepower at all off the bench. We need someone who can bring a spark off the bench. If Iverson is willing to be that man, I don’t see the problem with signing him. He can rack up points in a hurry. Last time I checked in the NBA, the team with the most points usually wins. Bring AI in. He’s exactly what we need for our 2nd unit.

  22. avatar john Said,

Thornton is a guy that would be great in that 2nd-unit scorer position.

Personally I’m not convinced that Iverson would put fans in the seats. He’s not the player he once was and his reputation has taken a hit. I have to believe that a player that could actually make this team better would have a better impact on ticket sales than Iverson.

I’ve been sold on Sessions since he put up that flurry of big stat lines at the end of his rookie campaign, and reading articles about his strengths and weaknesses (thanks Kevin) has convinced me further. This is a good opportunity for the Clippers to show that they are serious…we’ll see.
