Greece played their first second game in the EuroBasket 2009 tournament today, defeating Croatia 76-68. Clippers 2003 draft pick Sofoklis Schortsanitis played a foul ridden 14 minutes, scoring only 4 points. Sofo kept the refs busy on both ends of the court, drawing fouls with his overwhelming strength on the block. Unfortunately for Greece, Sofo only managed to convert 2 of his 8 chances from the charity stripe, posting a 25% clip that would make even DeAndre Jordan blush.
It will be interesting to see what kind of minutes Sofo gets throughout the tournament. He appears to be in the best shape of his life, and a depleted Greece team should offer him more scoring opportunities than he’s accustomed to, provided he can get on the court and stay out of foul trouble. If there was ever a time for Sofo to capitalize on his opportunities, this is it.
The EuroBasket tournament is a nice chance for Clippers fans to see and form their own opinions on Sofo. Greece takes on Israel Wednesday at 10:15 am pacific time. I’ll be posting impressions of Sofo as the game goes on here at Clipperblog, so feel free to join in and I’ll try to answer any of your NBA questions as well.
