Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

Current Composition of Clippers Roster

Posted by Kevin Arnovitz on September 11, 2009 at 11:05 am

The signing of Steve Novak brings the Clippers’ roster to 13.   That roster features a good deal of flexibility, with guys like Rasual Butler, Ricky Davis, Mardy Collins on the perimeter. A healthy, motivated Baron Davis is capable of guarding 2s off the ball, and even some 3s. Up front, Marcus Camby can operate at the high post alongside any of the Clips’ other bigs. A pairing of Camby and Griffin is particularly attractive because it allows Griffin to play the block offensively. On defense, Griffin can use his mobility and light feet to chase the league’s growing corps of more agile 4s both inside and out while Camby can do what he does best — protect the basket.

What will the Clips do with their final spot or two?  Probably sign another big at the veteran’s minimum. The Clippers will likely start the season with 14 players on the official roster, but if the staff sees a guard at training camp who catches their eye, the Clips could conceivably add a 15th man.

Wow, we are a really deep team with no terrible players aside from Ricky Davis but more for his attitude because his game was one day a while ago good. I love Novak, am curious about his contract and kinda hope it was for only 1 year because this team looks awesome on paper, again, and will need some tweaking after this year to fix the problems we see on the floor and fortunately we’ll have cap flexibility to do it. Good work, GM Dunleavy. Now as your next GM duties, go find us a coach to win with these guys. I’m impressed!

Well said…people just don’t seem to realize that this would be LeBron’s best case senario. LA, Hollywood and a chance to take Kobe’s so-called arena. I can’t wait until this happens. All bandwagon fans welcomed.

There were so many close games lost by LA last season. Some games I remember clearly.A buzzer beater 3 by San Antonio, 1 point loss to Denver,EG fouls ben gordon from the 3pt line and Chicago beats LA ,1 point loss to Detroit, etc

Some reasons were that LA’s starters were playing heavy minutes due to players out and a lack of a bench. Its a shame LA dug itself a big hole early on. I can understand 10 new players trying to learn Dunleavy’s system will
take time and This year they will have the Playa Vista facility + training camp..

Shiiiiiit, for some reason I thought Pops had been signed. Now that you mention it, I can’t remember which time I thought he was signed to.

But I mean, sign him up now. Not only is he probably a better player than Skinner and Ely right now, he actually has a lot of potential to improve, whereas Skinner is clearly on the downside and Ely is never, ever healthy.

Best case scenario: 82-0. Worst case scenario: 0-82.

I’m stoked to finally be getting the games in San Diego this year.

The big question: Will Dunleavy’s very huge playbook, short leash control everything (cause he think he’s the real star)approach and disastrous 4th quarter instincts and coaching destroy his good work putting this roster together? Last season his 4th Quarter coaching & pep talks killed many promising team rallies before the time outs were over.

Did you guys see the MJ classic games on TV leading up to the HOF intro? The insane game in the 1992 finals where Dunleavy was coaching the Lakers and Jordan makes 13 shots in a row….. :) I forgot how good Jordan was till this last week. Numero Uno in my book forever he was just sickening utterly ill. Hope one of the Clippers new guys develops some killer instinct.

I was looking at flip murray on 82games.com and he was an impressive pg last year. his per was 17.5 compared to his opponent’s 11.8. He sounds like a pretty nice option if your not sold on telfare or pg depth. I hope the clippers invite caner-medley(from summer league)to training camp also.

People tend to overrate their team’s own scrubs. Mardy Collins and Steve Novak would see ZERO minutes on a good team. Anyone who actually cares whether they are retained needs to take a step back. Did someone just say they hope we sign Nick Caner-Medley? Good god.

Novak has some value. Dunleavy just needs to not pull Daniel Ewing’s and bring him in cold thinking he can snipe right away.

    Hi Fire Dunleavy,

No one hates Dunleavy more than me. I haven’t posted in a while but you might remember one or two.

Anyhow, I finally caved and got split season tickets (I’d been a STH for years). God I hope I don’t regret it. If this team had Bird, Magic and Jordan all in their prime with Dunleavy as coach they’d suck trying to follow his game plan.

    FireDunleavy .com Reply:

Well he’s only got 2 more years in his contract and I think they’ll get rid of him if he gets off to a bad 1st half. Problem is they have an easy schedule starting the season and Dunleavy will probably survive so he can blame the 2nd half of the season on injuries. Just don’t expect 3rd row center courts seats to go for more than $100 on stubhub unless the lakers are playing.

    Dunleavy must go!! Reply:

I agree completely about MDsr…he is probably the worst HC in the history of the NBA. He has pretty much run every franchise he’s ever coached into the ground. I too am a season ticket holder and proudly boo Dumbleavy every night. As a GM he has done a good job, but he is a TERRIBLE game manager, makes zero in-game adjustments, loses the confidence of his team every season and does not coach to his players strengths like a good coach does.

    FIRE DUNLEAVY!!!

I am thinking about the 06-07 season where the Clippers were slacking for a period of time. Part cassel missing games and Livingston going down.
It was’nt till the last 20 games or so that they really played hard and were
8-2 for one stretch, or similar. They were too late though because they missed the play offs by 1 game.

I noticed the same type of fight in the Clippers last season after aquiring Zach. They beat Portland on the road. Beat the Rockets at home.Beat Miami at home. Were up by 17+ points at Dallas before falling apart and loosing by 1.

They too went through a stretch of games playing to win. I sure hope they come out with that fire from day one this year.
