Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

Wednesday Roundup

Posted by Kevin Arnovitz on October 21, 2009 at 12:39 pm
  • Kevin Pelton ranks his Top 10 prospects at Basketball Prospectus, and DeAndre Jordan comes in at No. 4: “Because veterans Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman are ahead of him on the Clippers’ depth chart, Jordan is still a name to file away for the future at this point. However, when injuries struck the L.A. frontcourt last season, Jordan proved to much further along in his development than anyone expected after one disappointing season at Texas A&M. As it turned out, there was a reason Jordan was considered a likely lottery pick coming out of high school. He’ll get another year to learn before Camby’s contract expires, leaving Jordan to fight with Kaman for playing time in the middle.”
  • The panel at ESPN.com offers up predictions for the 2009-10 season. The experts project the Clippers to finish anywhere from 7th in the Western Conference (J.A. Adande) to 12th (John Hollinger and Jemele Hill).
  • The crowd at Staples last night was predominantly pro-Maccabi, but it’s important to note that the game was not included in the Clippers’ season ticket package and was marketed entirely to Los Angeles’ Jewish community. Los Angeles has the largest concentration of Israelis outside of Israel. Proceeds from the game went to Migdal Ohr, Israel’s largest orphanage.
  • Top pick or not, Blake Griffin apparently isn’t exempt from rookie schlep duty. From Griffin’s Twitter feed: “Heading to krispy kreme for the team before shoot a round who wants one?”
  • Staples has signed an unprecedented lifetime deal for the naming rights to the facility.
  • Suffice it to say, Rasual Butler will be pulling for the Phils to polish off the Dodgers tonight. In the same story, Ralph Lawler contrasts Phillies fans and the Dodger faithful: “LA fans have been hypnotized by the mellow tones of Vin Scully, who has broadcast Dodgers games for 60 years. It’s not cool to care too much in Los Angeles, and these people just don’t wear their emotions on their sleeves as much as the fans in Philadelphia do.”

although im happy about the cause, its too bad the clippers are supporting a team whose country is occupying territories.

  4. avatar Stian Said,

Wow, Matt, are you really falling for the Islamist propaganda that paints Israel as the new Nazis and Hezbollah and Hamas as the noble saviors of those poor Palestinians?

Do yourself a favor and watch a documentary titled ‘Pallywood’ (or ‘Paliwood’) and you’ll see to what lengths the Palestinian propaganda machine will go to in order to fool people (even otherwise Middle East savvy journalists such as CBS’ Bob Simon) and manipulate the Western media – and by extension – US. These people be should be getting Oscars!

All compelling points, but let’s keep politics to a minimum.

  7. avatar Seth Said,

It seem like ESPN always give the Clippers no respect (besides J.A. and of course, Kevin), but seriously I really do hate when ESPN or any “analysts” say…”Hey, it’s the Clippers.” People get paid to say that? Give me a break.

  9. avatar Seth Said,

Mike Taylor doesn’t know how to run a team. He way too wild and has no control of the tempo. I really didn’t know why Clipper fans liked him. Waive Mardy Collins too. We have a great squad. No need to add any more players.

I think KA would provide a much better analysis that hack Jamele Hill!

I also think MT would be a great pick up for 3rd pg…release Rush as he is more of a 2 combo…MT has all the tools, i don’t get why a team can’t take the time to develop (ie slow him down) and let him become the next Rondo!

  11. avatar Stian Said,

I liked Mike Taylor for what he was – a spark plug off the bench – but I’m glad he’s not on the team anymore. He and DeAndre were goofing around too much; Jordan is latching onto Griffin now which is a way better influence on him when it comes to working hard and getting better. We’re already seeing the results.

Good luck to MT – I hope he matures and finds his place in the league. The Knicks, Warriors or Suns would be a good fit for him.
