Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

Wednesday Roundup

Posted by Kevin Arnovitz on November 18, 2009 at 8:48 am
  • It’ll come as no surprise that the Clippers are struggling mightily without Eric Gordon, and his absence is impacting the performance of the other guys in the rotation. So far as the small forward spot, Al Thornton’s offensive numbers are improving rapidly, while Rasual Butler continues to struggle with his shot, but is still the better defensive option at the 3.
  • Of greater concern, the new starting lineup of Davis-Butler-Thornton-Camby-Kaman is getting shredded defensively, and is Bobcats-bad offensively.
  • An in-depth profile on “Clipper Darrell” Bailey. You can place Bailey squarely in the camp of those who feel Mike Dunleavy has performed well as a general manager, but has lost the team as its head coach.
  • DeAndre Jordan furtively defies the Clippers’ strength and conditioning coach and opts for the Brownie Sundae: “When Blake doesn’t go on the road trips with us, I’ll have to go out to eat with some other people, like Richard Williams our Strength and Conditioning coach. I’ve told you before how he doesn’t let me eat sweets, so when we go out to dinner I’m not allowed to get dessert. It sucks! Every single time we go to dinner, we’ll go out somewhere like Yard House or Grande Lux Café or CPK, which all have my favorite dessert on the menu – a brownie with caramel on it, then ice cream then more caramel and a cherry on top. They’ll even decorate your plate for you. Whenever I’m out with Rich, the waiter will come over and ask if we want to see the dessert menu. I’ll look over at Rich and he’ll just give me that knowing look and I have to tell the waiter, ‘No thank you.’ I can’t even look at the waiter when I’m saying it. I always like dessert. The good news is, he’s not on Twitter so he doesn’t know about that delicious brownie sundae I got when I went out to dinner last week.”
  • Speaking of DeAndre, he’s leading the hazing campaign against rookie Blake Griffin (video below).

Playing 3 road games in 4 nts. Dunleavy keeps playing older starters 40+ min. What are his intentions? Probably wants to shred this team into pieces before losing his job.

If Craig Smith & Telfair can’t play 20+ min pg, then losing QRich makes no sense.
Kareem Rush is good. We won against OKC with his defense. But he may not be physically capable of playing major minutes like Quinton Ross.

Can anyone figure out how to make a Conley for BD trade work? Memphis appears willing to take on anybody the rest of the league doesn’t want.

Never mind — and no worries:

“A team cannot reacquire a player they traded away during that season (a season being July 1 – June 30) unless the player has been waived. Note: this does not aply to draft picks. If a team trades a player’s draft rights, they can reacquire the player during the same season.”

  3. avatar Jeff McCinnis Anyone? Said,

How far we have come since we traded Darius Miles & fired Alvin Gentry?

Apart from Sam Cassell, no other PG was better than Jeff McCinnis. That’s the end of story.

i detest watching BD play he plays without heart and NO leadership. i would rather play Mardy Collins at point then to continue to watch BD destroy this team. Dunleavy has no control of him and i always wonder what he and BD are talking about when they are conversing during a game. i can almost hear Dunleavy pleading for him to drive and dish. The clippers never are able to attract WINNERS and until that happens the losing mentality will stay. i say at this point we follow the portland model and go young and grow together.

Basically, we need to hit the jackpot one more time – next summer.

Just like we got Blake and were able to move Z-Bo, we need to get John Wall and move Baron.

Baron is the anti-point guard. The anti-team mate.

He is one of those guys that can make his APG and PPG numbers look good and kill his team night in and night out.

Yeah, Dunleavy needs to go – he’s done. But who REALLY needs to be gone is Baron Davis. There were no excuses for the way he played last year. For him to pull the exact same shit on us all over again…….. if I ever met this guy I’d be tempted to physically hurt him. “You need a real reason to suck, bitch? – Let me break your fingers!” There.

If Baron got hurt in pre-season instead of Blake – I guarantee you we would be above .500 now. That’s how much the absence of Blake means to this team. He was Mr.Hustle. He kept the team on their toes. No way we get outrebounded by NOLA by16 with Blake. NO f’n WAY!

Give me Blake/Telfair/Collins instead of Camby/Telfair/Baron any day.

    Life in Clipper hell……………. continues.

Your anti baron stance is so strong and severe that I can concretely determine two things 1) you don’t watch any games 2) baron has personally taken money out of your wallet.

How about YOU haven’t watched the games.

Too bad you missed last night when we had it down to 3 and you know who decided to throw up (and brick) 3s (after not hitting one all night up to that point) and put us back in the hole. For good.

This was probably about the 4th game we’ve lost this season because Baron threw up garbage shots at the least opportune time. If these crucial plays elude your memory – find a way to re-watch’ em.

But don’t come here and tell me I don’t watch the games.

If anyone is to blame for clipper disfunction blame Dunleavy. The clippers dont need another number one draft pick, they need a new coach. Once Blake gets back they will have no more excusses and all blame will subside on Dunleavy, finally!

BD is sand bagging it right now becasue he doesnt want to risk injury this early in the season, he should step it up once Blake comes back and the playoff race approaches.

LOL – The playoff race will be over for the Clippers by the the time Blake gets back because Baron is incapable of leading this team to a better than .333 record. That’s how sad this guy is.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that a team like the Kings (with their best player, Kevin Martin, out!) who were universally picked dead last in the West is playing .500 ball and has wins against the Rockets a.o. while the Clippers barely beat the TWolves, Memphis and Thunder?

That’s what happens when your point guard is Tyreke Evans as opposed to Baron Davis.

Yeah, guy, Baron is just coasting now but he’s gonna turn it on once Blake comes back. Fo’ sure.

Do you actually believe that nonsense?

Dime Smack link totes Warriors trade Ellis to Clips for Baron. At this point, that seems like an option worth discussing.

  8. avatar RG12 Said,

The problem is that the dude is delusional. He thinks he can be Kobe in the last five minutes of the game. Once in a while he gets lucky and makes a 3. Most of the time he’s laying bricks. Sam didn’t have half his athletic ability, but he had a brain and knew when to try a 2, when to try a 3, when to make a pass, and how to draw the foul. Ultimately the coach goes to because he won’t (or can’t) control this egomaniac.

Yep… Exactly… If Sam Cassell could lead this team to victories with Dunleavy at the helm, why can’t Baron man up and do it? Because he doesn’t have half of Sam’s determination, work ethic, basketball smarts and character, despite having twice Sam’s athleticism.

Both Baron and Dunleavy need to go. To remove one without removing the other is leaving some of the cancer behind to spread again.
