I always knew we were great and didn’t need to improve… So long as I know we’ve got the 4th best unit in the league, I’m satisfied no matter how poorly they play.

Just think of how great that unit will be when we start winning…

  5. Plus 15 Said,

Just think how good that unit would be and the improved record if Dunleavy was a functional coach, knew how to handle players, knew how to use his substitutes and role players, got Novack a little warm before the last 90 seconds and hadn’t already lost them and continue to lose them every time they decide Ok we’ll listen and do his thing even though he’s a lame, unpleasant, disrespectfu,l egotistical excuse for an NBA coach. BTW any thought that LeBron will choose the Clippers is really ridiculous as long as Dunleavy is in charge.

    bongstradamus Reply:

The last game against Orlando, Dunleavy made some key subs that were perfect in the beginning of the game, but by the 4th quarter the starters were dead tired and he didnt get the 2nd unit in there to spell them for a push at the end of the quarter.

The one thing driving me crazy is the force feeding of Kaman, who is terrible offensively despite his insane FG% earlier in the season. Kaman’s a great defensive presence, but to hang the game on his 20 shot attempts is just a recipe for disaster. If we gave EJ 20 shot attempts we’d have won. Heck, if we even fed Marcus the ball a few more times we could have won.

Kamans getting too many looks and played too many minutes. Dun really has to think about when to sub out Camby and Kaman with DeAndre and Rhino. We are really blessed to have the bigs we do, because our first unit is a great defensive squad and our second unit is just as strong but much more athletic and energetic at the rim. We could have really used our bench at key moments in the 3rd and 4th, but Dun kept the starters on the floor and they just ran out of gas when the game was on the line.

Totally agree. That is why the players get injured. Im starting to think he is going to stay with this poor player movement and mess up Blakes performance when he returns as well. Dunleavy is a great Gm, but shitty coach and a year will be wasted before the Clips brass realize this.

Dunleavy a great GM? WOW! I didn’t realize bringing Zbo as a panic move and then moving him a year later was a great move! I didn’t realize bringing in Rasual Butler who couldnt put a nerf ball through a hoop was a great move. I didn’t realize getting Ricky Davis (who is pretty much useless), and lets not forget signing Baron Davis who lets face it hasnt been earning his contract.
So don’t tell me hes a great GM. Great GM’s know how to put talent that can mesh on the floor….Dunleavy is neither a great GM nor a great coach…just terribly mediocre at both

That’s great and everything but shouldn’t the Clips record reflect this in some way?
    I know this sure does…

    21 games into the season:

*The Clips +/- in 4th quarter is: -23

*This includes the comeback win over Memphis on when the Clips outscored the Grizzlies by 26 pts in the 4th quarter. If you throw that game out after 20 games the Clips are -49 in the 4th quarter on the season

The Clips have been outscored in the 4th quarter: 12X (57%)

The 4th quarter has been the Clips lowest scoring quarter: 10X (48%)

The Clips have failed to score at least 20 pts in the 4th: 10X (48%)

personally i dont think we are ever going to be able to be as good as we can be going to chris kaman down low so many times….i noticed when Eric Gordon gets alot of shots thus getting alot of points it usually leads us to a victory….as opposed to Kaman who may get 20something points but more often than not in a loss……..
i dont understand how they Clippers dont see this ….

    and damn
do we ever play again this season?
its been forever since we damn played again i thought today friday we had something

Descipline doesn’t win any games. Dunleavy expect all his players to bottle up their natural
talents & instinct and follow his commands win or lose. It’s high time Baron, Gordon and Thornton team-up and take matters into their own hands. Sometimes you have to run & gun to distract opposing teams.

Wait… so when the Clippers actually play their 5 best players at the same time good things happen? Al Thornton should be fired from the NBA. He’s just awful– he couldn’t get 10 rebounds if he was the ball boy in a three-point shooting contest. Actually, Dunleavy should be fired for insisting on starting Thornton and playing him almost 35 minutes/night.

The Clips have a very good team. They are just one of the few teams that have a coach sucking double-digit win totals from their potential

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say this again. The Clippers are not a deep enough team. The starting talent is fine, but the five after that? Even with Griffin back (who is gonna be 12 and 8 at best for the rest of the year) those five would be one of the worst starting five in the league. Not. Enough. Talent.

You’re seriously comparing our bench to the starters of other teams, and finding they come up short?
I mean, isn’t that kind of a definition of a bench player? ‘Not good enough to start’?

    [Reply]

    SamMays

    SamMays Reply:

As I recall, after the Smith/Telfair deal, most of us were raving about the bench we were going to have. The problem with the bench is Dunleavy doesn’t play them, or when he does play them, he puts them all in together and expects them to produce in three minutes. If they don’t, they’re out and Baron plays 42 minutes… Has anyone noticed that Baron almost always sucks in the 4th quarter? He’s exhausted.

Dunleavy is so busy trying to keep the team in the game, he forgets you need fresh players in the 4th to win it.

    bongstradamus Reply:

The problem with the bench is:

    They arent getting played!

Dunleavy either uses them for 4 minutes or 14, none of those guys gets 20 minutes of solid play time and the team falls apart from exhaustion in the 4th as a result. Not to mention, they are cold as hell when they do get in there because of the lack of consistent play time.

Yeah, way too much banging on the Clips here. Wait until BG gets back and into a groove. Look at how the Lakers played tonight against Utah with an injured Kobe. Without Kobe, Lakers are a 500 team. Griffin ain’t Kobe, but we got to give this guy time to get on the floor. He’s the best draft pick on paper since the players picked in 2003. So far, we are a near-500 team without BG.

Without BG, Clips are still good on paper as to their starting 5 and have had good individual performance from all these starting players at different times this year. They just need to stay healthy and play long enough together so that they can all play consistently well at the same time. I still like the make-up of this team now, I like our cap space for next year, and I like our TWolves pick coming up sometime within the next 2.5 years.
