Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

WSJ: Congratulations, You’re Loyal!

Posted by Kevin Arnovitz on January 28, 2010 at 4:20 pm

From David Biderman of the Wall Street Journal:

The travails of the Los Angeles Clippers are well-documented. Not only have they had 17 losing seasons in the past 20 years, but they share a city and an arena with the 14-time NBA champion Lakers. But here’s a thought that might surprise both teams, if not the 3.8 million people in the city: The Clippers’ fans are the most loyal in town. In fact, they’re the most loyal in the entire league.

A study designed for The Wall Street Journal by sports-reference.com, an Internet sports database, looked at NBA teams’ attendance for the past 10 seasons. It then weighed certain factors like city population, arena capacity, prior winning percentage and whether there are other, competing teams in the same market. By those measures, Clippers fans are the most devoted, while Golden State Warriors fans are in second place. Presumably those teams get extra credit for continuing to post relatively strong attendance figures while sporting a combined winning percentage of .399 since the 2000-01 season.

    Write it down everyone.

01/27/2010 was the date Clippers officially redeamed themselves from their age-old CURSE by gracefully losing to NJ Nets.

Now NETS officially own that CURSE. Reactionsfrom all corners are clear evidence of that change of ‘curseguards’.

Clipper attendence was high due to the Staples center opening, then the Clippers made the playoffs followed by a year they almost made the playoffs. If it was just judged by the last 2 years, the Clippers wouldn’t be first. Also there are a lot of businesses that buy tickets, more than most cities I’d guess. Some of them just buy tickets to all staples center events and are stuck with clipper tickets sometimes.

been to 3 clip games this year. most of the games, about 1/3 of the people in attendance are wearing the other team’s jersey. during the clips cavs game, mor than half were wearing bron’s. i usually see more jerseys worn from the visiting team than the clips! there are many devoted clip fans out there, but i think people do show up to the game for other reasons other than for the clips.

in conclusion….. THE NETS?! :: argh:: come on clips

Not only will I take this win I’ll say this much. In response to yes sir… Yes their are quite a couple of fans for other teams at our games but guess what go to a laker fan and less than 1/3 of those people know anything other than Kobe Bryant Laker fans are by far the most IGNORANT fans of all. We might be few but we will follow our team no matter what. Come on Clipper Nation I know it’s tough at times but let’s keep supporting our team some day someday we will win the big one and guess what?? It will feel better than the 31 combined championships the celtics and lakers have had cuz it will be ours. Just like someone born into a rich family doesn’t realize what money is or what it takes to earn it. We are like a poor man that will someday get a job get promoted and although it will be hard someday we will have all the riches. Keep your head up Clipper Nation let’s continue to be the NBA’s most loyal fans
