Gordon Selected to Sophomore Team for Rookie Challenge

Posted by Kevin Arnovitz On January - 27 - 2010

Gordon was selected to the team, along with Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo, Michael Beasley, Kevin Love, Brook Lopez, Danilo Gallinari, Russell Westbrook and Marc Gasol.

The game is scheduled for February 12 — in 16 days. Presumably, Gordon’s toe will be healed by then.

Then, of course

At halftime of the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam, the Clippers’ Gordon and the Toronto Raptors’ DeMar DeRozan will compete in the first NBA All-Star Slam Dunk-In, a single-round slam dunk competition. Fans will be able to vote via SMS text message and at NBA.com to determine who will advance to the Sprite Slam Dunk the following night.

Hopes and Fears Revisited

Posted by D.J. Foster On January - 26 - 2010

When we weren’t busy obsessing over Ramon Sessions, Clipperblog spent the last days of Summer detailing our hopes and fears for the upcoming season. Now that we’re past the midway point of the 82 game schedule, let’s review that Hopes and Fears series to get some perspective on where the Clippers currently stand.

The Preseason Hopes on Baron Davis:

“Relevance is an alluring motivating factor for Davis, and when motivated, he’s awfully good. The narrative is set for redemption.”

Boston 95, Clippers 89

There isn’t a game on the schedule where Eric Gordon doesn’t come in handy, but against Boston’s ball pressure in the halfcourt, EJ’s absence is especially costly. The Celtics’ defense focuses on cutting off large swaths of the floor with hard traps. The best way to alleviate that pressure? Perimeter spacing, something that can be achieved with a couple of lethal perimeter threats. Without a shooter like Gordon keeping the defense honest, the Celtics’ tighten their vise even further.

Clippers acquire Bobby Brown

The Clippers bolster their badly depleted backcourt.

From Marc Stein of ESPN:

The New Orleans Hornets have lined up the last move they need to make to get under the NBA’s luxury-tax threshold.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the Hornets have reached a verbal agreement on a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers that will send reserve guard Bobby Brown to the Clippers for a conditional future second-round draft pick.

A trade call with the league office to formally approve the deal is scheduled for Tuesday morning, sources said.
