Clippers assistant Kim Hughes will take over coaching duties.
I’ve confirmed with sources close to Dunleavy that he will remain with the team “in a management capacity.”

I think this is GREAT news! I don’t think the players were responding to his coaching anymore! Question is, did Dunleavy fire HIMSELF?!

Did we just witness the greatest 2-6 road trip in history?

Bring Byron Scott back!

kevin or dj, what do you think hughes will bring as far as coaching style and philosphy? is he just a replica of dunleavy which will not change anything? or should we expect him to have a different approach?

We Hughes coached for Dunleavy earlier this year, i noticed that he was more willing to give D Jordan more minutes to play! He definitely calls different plays than Dunleavy. Also, I have ALWAYS had a problem with the way Dunleavy robotically ran his rotations (it didn’t matter who was hot, Dunleavy would always sub according to miuntes played rather than who was on a roll).

feel sorry he never got a chance to coach Griffin but oh well, what’s best for the team!

I feel like even if the Saints win at the last second on Sunday, the entire city of New Orleans couldn’t be HAPPIER than I am right now. THIS IS AMAZING NEWS. I’ve dreamed about this day for so many yearrrrrrrrrssss! BEST DAY EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

WOW WOW WOW… i’m not thrilled that dunleavy is actually being fired… i think he tried his best,…. but this cant be anything but great for team chemistry…
sometimes coaching changes are good for a nice 5 game winning streak….
kim hughs def not a long term sollution
they’ll have to hire a veteran coach in order to attract a good free agent next year

THIS MADE MY DAY…but I think Lucas would have been better then Hughes but I understand the move
Posted on February 4th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
I guarantee this decision was made after the Nets/Twolves back to back debacles… that said, do you think the Donald was rooting for them to blow that lead last night? (would have been a little awkward to shitcan the guy after two back to back big wins)

Thank God!!!
ESPN Radio is talking about Byron Scott coming in.
As far as the interim job is concerned, Lucas > Hughes.

i wouldn’t mind byron scott coaching, he’s proven he can take a team deep in the playoffs. but how realistic are the chances he’s come to a team with baron davis on the roster? its not a secret they didn’t see eye-to-eye when he was in new orleans.

F*CK YEAHHHHH IM GETTING SH!TTY TONIGHT WHOS WITH ME

Feel bad for the guy….he really tried. One of the rare Clipper coaches / GM to actually try and win.
He got Sterling to spend money on players and build a practice facility. Made some good signings and draft picks.
I really do thank the guy for trying to change the Clipper mentality.

Finally someone listened to me. I still think he’s a good GM so I’m glad he’s staying on for that, but it didn’t seem like the players had been responding well to him for some time.
Posted on February 4th, 2010 at 3:58 pm
Frequent reader of the site (good job dj and kevin), but never had an urge to write anything until this news broke.. couldn’t have come at a better time either. Heard byron scott is on his way in as well, blake’s surgery was successful.. look up guys. clipper nation is back on its way up
Posted on February 4th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
wow….
is all i can say….finally so many clipper fans wish came true.
as far as Kim goes well…lets see how the guys respond to him temporarily but damn this is exciting because if all it took was a winner like Sam Cassell to do what he did for us in 2006 ..imagine what a winning coach that aint going to take NO for an answer (when it comes to effort) and that is not going to stand losing could bring?
WOAH
I was giving up on this season (atleast watching games) this early but i think i am going back to watching just to see what goes on but this is getting very very interesting.
I commend Dunleavy because he has tried to build a winnner and has made decent moves…(we should be grateful he even made any at all) an well
damn
LETS GO CLIPPERS!

It’s top-10 protected this year and next. So, looks like we’ll be in on the Michael Gilchrist sweepstakes in 2012.

I’m totally speechless right now. This is a great day Clipper Nation!!!! Sterling does care.

They waited until after the road trip to give Hughes the best chance to succeed…several home games, and several winnable games, are coming up.
Posted on February 4th, 2010 at 5:48 pm
I say wait and see who gets fired. Or jump on CHARLES BARKLEY! Kidding. Bring in SAM I AM. We need a coach with swagger and a killer instinct. X’ and O’ are X’s and O’, the game is won by the WILLIE’S and JOES. or should I say LEBRON?
Posted on February 4th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
good move. it was time.
Posted on February 4th, 2010 at 6:07 pm
As much as I like Byron Scott as a coach, it would be counterproductive to hire him if Baron is the team’s point guard. They didn’t hit it off in New Orleans and they won’t do well together here, either.
Kenji asked about Hughes’s coaching style compared to Dunleavy’s. I’m not sure if he’ll let the team run more than Dunleavy did or trim the playbook. Maybe Kevin knows…..Kevin??
Wouldn’t it be nice to see George Karl sitting on the Clipper bench next season?
Posted on February 5th, 2010 at 1:00 am
I wouldnt mind George Karl, I think he”s played an important role in Carmelo’s development plus i think his popularity among players is a lot better than Mike Dunleavy’s. Question is, would he come here? A lot of people have mentioned Jeff Van Gundy, I’m not sure if I’d consider him a good coach, I know his best tenure was with the knicks but even that didn’t go so great. With the rockets he did an “alright” job, but Adelman has been the man that has made the significant improvements on that team. Byron Scott is definatly out of the question because of Baron, I wouldn’t mind bringing in a rookie coach, But that probably wouldn’t sit too well for a Free Agent that might be considering us over another team. I’m hoping that we keep Lucas next season, he brings lots of energy to the bench and that’s something we don’t often see from coaches plus the players seem to love him
