Eric Gordon entered the Dunk-in as a massive underdog against DeMar DeRozan. His two successful dunks — each after a series of missed attempts — weren’t enough to convince the electorate.
You have to feel for Gordon. He was completely surprised by the invitation — he doesn’t fashion himself a dunker — and hasn’t been bullish about his prospects against a guy four inches taller than him.
Eric’s two dunks are below. ClipperBlog welcomes your critiques in the comments section.

It was the misses before the dunks that worked against him.

Beasley, Westbrook, Mayo, are the biggest ballhogs.

All 3 are hogs, but with Beasley, it’s just ridiculous. Did he even pass the ball once. Everytime time he touched it, he was looking to shoot. Made me not like him.

I agree… Beasley proved himself to be the moron I always thought he was… I would like to see Gordon come out of his shell though… He needs to get a little bit of Westbrook in him or he’s never going to be more than a decent NBA player.

His dunks were actually pretty good, the 2nd one probably better than Derozan, but Slax is right, the misses before the dunk hurt him. Plus I think everybody already expected to vote for Derozan cause not much was expected from Gordon

He was robbed. The Vince Carter of Compton won it based on what people think he can do tomorrow night.

From the moment I heard about the dunk in and saw who they selected, it seemed like a set-up for derozan to showcase his athleticism and Gordon had to play the Patsy.

How about on NBA.com while voting, there was a pic of derozan under it would say Eric Gordon. When NBA fixed the bug, the pic was the same and derozan’s name was under the correct box. If you were trying to vote for ej, you were actually voting for derozan.

That would be election fraud… Is there a lawyer on the site?

Maybe the league is trying to promote EJ although he doesn’t have the flair to win at dunking. I predict next year he’s in the 3 point shooting contest.

interesting…would he be the only one to ever participate in both events?

Nope… Don’t you you remember Larry Bird winning the dunk contest his first two years in the league…
Actually, there have been guys who competed in both.

I think Kenny Smith did both events

His dunks were more aggressive imo. maybe we’re all biased

Looking at this game reminded me of Blake Griffin, and i just started thinking of what type of dirty stuff he’d be doing in the game. Eric Gordon does need to break out of his shell, but a lot of these other guys in the Sophmore squad were complete ball hogs. You can tell Eric Gordon wasn’t trying to be all flashy just trying to go about business.

No bias, EJ’s dunks were more violent and better use of body control. It’s definitely the amount of attempts that worked against him. Had he made both on the 1st try, it would’ve been a lot closer. Matter of fact, had they had actual judges judging it, he might’ve won.
It’s simple – DeMar is the more popular player on a much more popular team(Raptors Nation is HUGE), thus more votes.

I do think Eric’s dunks were better but it was clear DeRozen wasn’t giving it his all. When the opening promo touts DeRozen as “The Showman”, and EJ as “The Unexpected”, that almost guarantees one mans success.

EJ was robbed period.

EJ’s dunks were nice, but he did miss several times first. Also, overall I think DeRozan really did not look like he was trying; I think he has some nastier stuff planned for the actual contest. I have no problem with DeRozan in the contest over EJ; it was really weird they invited him in the first place.
I agree with everyone; EJ needs to be more aggressive. I don’t really care what he does in the Rookie-Sophomore game though.

First, Eric Gordon is so intimidated by the lights and cameras and needs to relax. He should have never accepted the invitation to the dunk thing. He’s not a high flying athlete. Rasul is a better choice. I also think Blake Griffin will not shrink from the spot light next year and will dominate the All-star Rookie game.

TNT57 I think you nailed it, Griffin is way too shy for his own good, and it hurts his game a little. He seemed nervous the whole time he played in the Rookie/Soph game as well, more so than last year even. Maybe he was thinking too much about the Dunk contest.

if EJ would have made his dunks on his first attempts he probably would have moved on…they were nice
and i give him a huge amount of credit because its not his forte but he showed us something and after watching the dunk contest tonight (probably the worst ever) he could have probably won this thing

and yeah my friend met Eric Gordon and he said hes extremely shy….
but its noticeable especially in interviews
gotta love the guy
