- Adrian Wojnarowski of Y! Sports talks about Donald Sterling: “Donald Sterling has always talked a big game, but he’s never gone after a star GM in his prime. Dunleavy leaves the franchise set up in some good ways, but Sterling doesn’t understand that winning in the NBA doesn’t come from empty words in absurdly worded press-release firings, doesn’t come with throwing red meat to a fan base that wanted the old GM embarrassed and fired on the spot.”
- Bill Plaschke, doing some true California dreamin’: “Now introducing, Clippers forward LeBron James and two of his high school chums as general manager and coach. Crazy, too, but that’s the thing about what happened Tuesday. The Clippers didn’t lose a general manager, they gained a world of possibilities.”

Neil Olshey has one and only one test to show he’s a legit GM: Can he get rid of Baron Davis? If he can, not much else matters and the Clippers will be better. If he can’t, also not much else matters, except then the Clippers will remain terrible. No team can win with Baron Davis at point guard. He’s too lousy of a shooter, too louser of a defender and too toxic to the team chemistry.
Judging from the article about Neil Olshey, his only actual basketball experience is as a high school coach. Is that right? Doesn’t seem like that’s going to get too much respect around the league. It’s not going to be like when Jerry West would call some other GM and the GM would jump to take the call because it was Jerry West. No, this is someone who never played in the league and only coached in high school. Is this really true? Is this who Sterling picked to lead his “win now” mandate? Oh, sure. I
t doesn’t matter that he worked under Dunleavy for a couple of years. That was Dunleavy’s vision, experience, knowledge and judgement that was behind everything Olshey would have done. Olshey would have just done the busy work. Dunleavy was highly respected not only because he was a player but becaue he was a very successful coach in Portand. Other GMs took Olshey’s calls because Dunleavy was behind the calls and the other GMs knew it. So it seems dim moving forward.
But if he can get rid of Davis, then he’s good in my book, regardless.

Good luck finding a sucker to take on that contract-the Dunce’s legacy lives on.

Can we start the “Mark Warkentien for GM” chants at Staples now. He’s a solid GM that will be a “free agent” this summer, he should be our big signing!

Leaving the positions open until next season isn’t a bad plan. There really isn’t much the Clippers can do for a while anyway.

Hey guys, check out my “Faces of Dunleavy” pic & thoughts on how the Dunleavy firing was just another disappointment for a longtime Clips fan.
