A couple of recent clips of 19-year-old Czech forward Jan Vesely, slotted in the 10-13 range in most mock drafts.
The first is from last Thursday’s Euroleague playoff game vs. Maccabi:
The second is from a regular season Partizan Belgrade game. Watch Vesely time his basket cut — and take a look at those springs!

What if we end up picking 7th or 8th? Would everyone be okay with the Clippers picking Vesely? K.A. makes this guy sound like a super stud, but other sites say he’s just gonna be a very good role player. That’s good for an 11-13 pick, but I don’t know about 7-8 pick. That said, the way K.A. describes him, he sounds perfect for the Clippers. At 6’10″/6’11″ he makes up for Gordons SHORT comings plus he gives us another shooter which Clips need badly. He’s a good defender which is always a plus and he’s only 19 which means he still has a lot if upside. Age is what scares me away from someone like Wesley Johnson whose turning 23 soon, how much upside does he have left? So is Vesely worth a higher pick?

this is the same thing being said about korolev remember and how did he turn out?
if Wesley Johnson is on board then we should draft him as he is a proven perimeter threat.

(1) I think it’s ill-advised to equate European players just because they’re European. Korolev never played at the level of competition Vesely has — and currently is.
(2) Clippers fans should prepare for the likelihood that perimeter players like Turner and Johnson will be off the board. If the Clippers are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to select Johnson — assuming he drops and the Clippers rise — they should certainly take advantage of that opportunity.

We won’t know the direction of this team until we know who the next coach will be, but I feel like we need to find a SF who can spread the floor. Vesely isn’t that guy, he shoots less than 30% from behind the arc. Draftexpress.com has a great write up on him, based on what they’ve said, I don’t think he feels a need. They talk about his athletic ability and length but complain about his lack of basketball IQ and range. The biggest negative (for me) was that he is an extremely poor rebounder at SF. Considering the fact that he is 6’11″, I’d expect rebounding to be a strength.
Finally, he has a complicated buyout that will be based on what position he is drafted in. He may not come over next year. For a team that expects to compete for a playoff position next year, shouldn’t we be thinking about someone who could make an immediate impact?

Isn’t he shooting 46% from 3pt range in the Euroleague?

Vesely has great potential, that’s for sure. Brian, he’s not like Korolev, or other draft fails from Europe…
But he’s expected to remain with Partizan in next two seasons. And then, when he finaly go to NBA, he will be a monster player, that every NBA team wants oh it’s side.
Greetings from Serbia!

Do you know what his buyout price is? I know it’s changes based on where he is picked. Also does he want to stay in Europe or is it just the buyout keeping him over there?

I don’t know exactly his buyout price. But, Partizan’s policy is to sell players(especially when it’s about young players) at penultimate year of contract, so Partizan can earn some money and player stays in Partizan for longest possible time. Vesely has 3 years of contract after this season, so i expect he will stay in Partizan for next 2 seasons.
About second question. He said his biggest dream is to play in NBA, but first, he wants to leave his mark in Partizan and in Europe basketball.
Trust me, longer he stay in Partizan, the better Jan Vesely will go to NBA.
p.s Tonight is the most important game for Partizan in past 12 years(since 1998), a lot of TV channels are covering the game, maybe you’ll see another monster dunk by Jan, like in these two clips.

This guy reminds me of Yaroslev Korolev.

Partizan goes to Final four!!!!
Vesely showed some amazing one-on-one(defending guards) defence and athleticism. We have seen couple of good dunks from him, and amazing speed and athleticism for the player of his size.

I would love to have this guy, but I don’t know about waiting 2 or 3 years for him. Maybe if we get someone like Gay or Iggy to play the three we won’t need this guy so soon.

At least this guy is playing ball in a pro league and not a junior team

vesely is great he likes partizan, and loves playing here,he is shouting 44 % from 3,no 30 %,like some guy said before,he is athletic, great deffender, plays couple positions, has good skils, and good shot, and he jumps amazin!! so i think he needs to stay at least, one more year in europe improve some aspects of his game (dribling ball, one on one skills, post play) and then he can come in nba,i watched every partizan game this year, and i can tell you he us amazing prospect,he will be great in nba you will see.
