- According to Marc Stein, it’s looking like Marcus Camby is going to be staying in Portland for the next few years. The Blazers are 16-3 in games where Camby has suited up for them, while the Clippers went 8-21 without the big man on their side. There was some talk about Camby possibly coming back to Los Angeles this summer, but that appears to be dead.
- Chris Bosh talks about his impending free agency. Reading through that interview, the chances that he goes back to Toronto seem pretty unlikely, don’t they?
- Ralph Lawler broke the exciting news a few days ago: The Clippers won the tiebreaker for the 8th spot in the lottery with New York (actually Utah). What’s that mean? The Clips now have a 23 out of 1000 chance at landing one of the top three picks.
- If you haven’t already, bookmark DraftExpress.com. We’ll be referring to them quite a bit this summer. Here’s a look at their current first round mock draft, with team needs not yet factored in.
- If Houston Rockets assistant Elston Turner lands the Clippers head coaching job, it’s going to be awfully difficult for him to pass on Greg Monroe in the draft. Monroe’s unreal passing talent from the high post would be an absolute perfect fit in the offense we’d expect Turner to run. Personnel that matches up with the general offensive scheme? Now there’s a thought.

Hindsight being 20/20 it’s obvious the Clips gave away Camby. Now, he signs with Portland $21m guaranteed over 2 years plus incentives. On Greg Monroe, I’ve see him play a number of times at Georgetown, and the jury is out whether he’s got the inner drive to succeed in a big way. He’s a terrific playmaker for someone his size but played below his size at Georgetown. I don’t know if he’s tough enough to make it big in the NBA. Bosh? Big concerns about his defense. Bosh averages only 1 block per game, and no team played softer on defense than Toronto the last few years.

I’ve also seen him quite a bit… The guy is soft as toilet paper. No thanks.

Marcus’ contract extension is truly a blow to those Clippers fans who were holding hope to get him back.

Marcus was never coming back. Not unless the year Clips had finished 10x better than they did.

I always thought the Clips gave away Camby so that the Clippers #23 jersey would be free for someone else….just a thought…

Yeah, I know. That was Gordon’s original number in high school and college at Indiana. Now he can get it back, if he chooses to do so.

Not for next season, he missed the deadline to submit a number change. BGriffin also used 23 in college. I doubt either of them will change back to their orginals.

We do but its lottery protected until 2012 i believe… If the wolves continue to suck for the next two years we’ll be in great shape!

With that idiot Kahn at the helm I’d say it’s a near certainty that TWolves will suck the next two years. To paraphrase Rick Pitino, “Ricky Rubio isn’t walking through that door.”

We miss Camby!

Have you guys seen what that extension might be worth?? Over 20 mil for the next two years… that’s ridiculous!!! i Love Camby and all but he’s not worth another 10 mil per season. At most, I thought he would deserve the Mid level if we would have tried to get him back. Portland is currently over hyped about how Camby has came in and contributed but as soon as Oden comes back next season Camby will be an Over paid back up Center. If Camby signs that extension good for him, not our loss. With our money and cap space we can get other Hungry basketball players without the history of injuriy problems and the age. I wish camby well.

I wish Kaman played with half the energy, brains and talent of Joakim Noah. This kid is silly good and really shows what a slug Kaman is on the court.

probably Portland’s feeling about Camby is that he can back up both Oden and Aldridge. With Oden’s propensity for fouls, there are easily 30 minutes/game there, and that’s assuming a healthy Oden. He plays the high post well, so can be paired with Oden (who can only score on the low block) on offense. That will be a ridiculously difficult front court to rebound or penetrate against.
Also, while 21 million is a lot, it is only a two-year contract. If it doesn’t work out, he becomes another expiring contract (along with Miller). Portland needed another center and only had the MLE to use. Smart move, I think

Maybe they figure Camby can teach Oden how to have a successful career while averaging less than 50 games a year each season.

Greg Monroe? Huh? Here’s a thought- don’t let Elston Turner have any say in our draft pick. If the Clippers draft a PF or C i will be furious (unless it is part of a trade for a wing). This squad needs wing scoring and defense, and after that a young backup PG who can be groomed as a starter in the near future. As i have stated before, if Wes Johnson and Aminu are off the board, we need to either take a risk and draft someone like Bledsoe, or package the pick in a trade.

Portland signed Camby now. Way to give him away for nothing. I assume this is a strike against Oshley and not Dunleavy.

Sterling not paying Dunleavy the remainder of his contract. Classy Donald. What talking points can you give your season ticket reps on that?

Yet another thing to make me wonder why I keep rooting for the clippers….
Hopefully this won’t have any negative effect on our coaching search…I could see it scaring away an established head coach with a few options, but the CB favorites are assistants who (hopefully) would have to accept any offer

You guys wonder why the Clippers can’t attract top rate talent and then you see the crap Sterling pulls with Dunleavy and you instantly know why this orgainzation is a laughing stock. You made the deal so pay the man you tight wad slum lord. PLEASE SELL THIS TEAM OR JUMP OFF ONE OF YOUR TWO MILLION OFFICE BUILDINGS! Until Sterling is gone I’ll never buy another Clipper game tix and I’ve had season tix for the past 4 seasons. If everyone boycotted this guy he would be forced to sell.

There is no way the Clips were going to give Camby $10 mil per year for one year, let alone two. Not sure any other teams would have. Good for him, but I don’t think the Clips would have been in the running at that amount.
Posted on April 21st, 2010 at 4:59 pm
why are there people who believed Camby was coming back? i am sure Denver fans said the same thing…i like what he has done here but both Kaman and Jordan are alot younger than him and they seem to play together better than the Camby and Kaman/Jordan together.
