Previewing the Lottery

The NBA Draft Lottery is typically an exciting day for Clippers fans, and as we learned last year, the wisdom of Kevin Garnett always applies: anything is possible.

The odds of lightning striking twice are pretty slim though. The Clippers have just a 2.3 8.2% percent chance of landing a top 3 pick. Take a look at this link that shows the Clippers chances in delicious pie chart format. (Hat tip to Golden State of Mind commenter Sleepy Freud for the chart and for the delightful username)

Team president Andy Roeser, he of awesome jacket prowess, will return to represent the Clippers. No word yet on whether the jacket will make another appearance. The draft lottery begins tomorrow at 5:00p PT, and we’ll be chatting live during the lottery tomorrow, starting early at 4:30p PT.

Screw LeBron * gasp ( : o * I’d love a top 3 pick and fill out the roster with the money we have. I’ll take our 2.3% odds of landing a top 3 pick over landing James. You just don’t get the sense from anyone around the NBA, players, GM’s, coaches, media, etc. that James would go to the Clippers. Seems like we’re his ‘last resort’ option.

I didn’t realize that we have a 0% chance of landing picks 4-7. I’ll have to go figure out how the lottery works.

  only the top 3 picks are determined from the lottery ping pong balls. After that picks 4-14 fall in order based on record. Thus we can get 1-3 with some luck or 8-11 if teams with better records than us get lucky on less of a chance.
  
  Basically from 11 on you don’t want to see the Clippers card and that’s when you close your eyes and pray.
  
  I will cry if we get #1 or #2

Nice logo…too bad the Clippers will never go for it.

On a side note, if anyone that works for the clipper website is reading this, please realize some mobile devices don’t have flash on them and thus can’t skip the season ticket ad to get into the site. Please place a simple html link to circumvent this problem. Thanks.

Our actual % odds of getting a top 3 pick are 8.2%

We’re a kind of a live longshot in a horse race, but in all liklihood we’re just going to draft 8th this year.

  you don’t just add the individual probabilities. But yeah, those aren’t terrible chances of getting a top 3 pick. Maybe better than our chances of signing LeBron.

    Interesting, hadn’t heard this before but makes sense. The chances of this 0.236% coming in to play are about twice as long as us getting stuck with pick #11

Very nice logo, really enjoy it. One complaint is the basketball is too big, but the lettering and ships with sails are classy.

no offense to the designer, but you essentially proved every graphic designer who came here and protested the contest, as being right.

LOVE the logo! Very nice…There’s a post on ESPN talking about how the Knicks fans should be routing for the Clippers so that Baron Davis can get traded to the Knicks. My thoughts are this: why do the Clippers need to win the lottery to trade Baron Davis? How many wins did we have last two years? If the Knicks want to trade us fodder for Baron Davis we’ll take it!

If any team wants to work a deal for Baron Davis I believe the Clips should seriously consider making a fresh start.

Great rumor you posted. If the Knicks would take Davis, the Clippers should dump him immeidately. Even if it isn’t true, it’s fun to hope it may be, even for a few seconds.
