I’m scared of Udoh and Aldrich based upon Hollinger’s Draft Forecaster.

Does Kaman have any value to these teams looking at a sign-and-trade?

  If I was a warrior fan, I would not trade for BD and give up a pick. As any team, I would not trade for DJ for a 1st round pick, i’ll give you pick 25 and up for DJ

The Clips should just wait and see if either Johnson or Aminu would still be available at # 8. If not, then they can just go for Motiejunas and leave him to play another year in Europe to gain more experience. It’ll be unlikely the Clips can convince LBJ to sign up. Plan B should then be to go after either John Salmons (unrestricted) or Rudy Gay (restricted). If neither works out, then they can seek a trade with Detroit e.i. Prince and Stuckey for B Davis and D Jordan. If that doesn’t pan out either then they should just keep their powder dry and wait for the summer of 2011 and shoot for Carmelo.
Gooden, Butler, and Blake are good backups and should be re-signed.

Pistons will snatch UDOH. That will leave Aminu for Clips. I think Clips are in a great shape. If Udoh is still available at 8th, they should draft him and prepare to trade Kaman. They simply can’t afford to re-sign Kaman to a long term contract. Then why keep him. We can do without DeAndre if he can fetch us a top draft pick. Talk to GSW & Philly. And talk to OKC as well. They desperately need a big man. We can maximize our core group of players by trading Kaman & DeAndre. No one would take Baron. His trade value is ZERO.

The Clippers need to focus on signing a marquee small forward free agent with their cap space. If they can get a Rudy Gay, Iggy, Joe Johnson…, then they don’t need to draft a small forward as badly as they do if the swing in miss with these marquee players. If they sign a small forward, then they can draft best available cause they can use depth at all 5 positions. If they can’t sign a marquee small forward, then it becomes neccessary to try to draft Aminu or Wesley. But what can the Clippers offer? They only have 5 players under contract, would they be willing to trade DJ and the 8th pick just to move up a few spots? I hope not.

Hoopsworlds mock draft has Aminu falling into the Clippers lap!

  The problem is the draft is before free agency signing. Before we can get a marquee small forward like you mentioned, we have to make the draft pick first.

Sixers are willing to trade 2nd pick if someone takes back Elton Brand’s contract. I wouldnt mind seeing Elton be a Clipper again and we might be able to move Kaman or Baron to make the deal work.

What up with all these ridiculous trade ideas? Why would we trade away all our bigs? Prince? An over 30 wing player who’s always hurt? That’s just dumb! Also, nobody is gonna give us anything for Baron. We won’t get enough for DJ cause he’s still raw and he was a second round pick. He is more valuable to us than he would be to other teams. He has time to develop behind Kaman who is coming off an all-star season. We don’t need any trades, that’s just gonna be a step back. We need a star at small forward, that’s what the capspace is for. If that fail, then hope we can draft one. We also need to sign a solid back up for Baron and get a good coach.

  How about seeing some movement in the head coaching hunt? The idea that the clips are waiting for phil jackson are stupid. He’s not going to go to the clippers. So that crap about the clippers not interviewing because their target is still in the playoffs is idiotic. Olshey is really f’ing up by not bringing in candidates for the job. Yahoo sports reported today that Thibodeau is the front runner for the hornets. He was one of our top prospects but did they interview him?? I sure as hell didn’t read anything anywhere about it! All our top choices are already being seriously courted by other teams, while the clipper front office is sitting on their asses thinking they don’t need a coach before the draft. Olshey is off to a great start as GM, way to screw things up early on. The longer he waits, the smaller the chance of landing a desired coach. There’s a reason why of few guys are already being targeted by other teams…they’re seen as the best choices! We’re at serious risk of having to hire some guy that was passed on by every other team in the league. Just what we need, another reject for a coach whom we’re going to be sitting on the edge of our seats to get fired.

      It’s disheartening to see all the other teams working feverishly to try and get a good head coach, but at the same time, you have to look at the make-up of our team. It’s pretty thin at the moment.
      
      Picking up a defensive minded coach at the moment is the best option, but depending on what players we grab in the off-season, it could really alter the dynamic of the team. The team will find the right coach for the job.
      
      Also, agreed 100% that these trade scenarios are ridiculous. Kaman was an all-star and Baron played well. Shot 50%, top 10 in assists, and had a 20+ pt quarter last year. See what you can get from the draft, see who you can resign in off season, and figure out what small trades you can make. Nothing major needs to be altered to this team.

      Why spend 2 years developing DJ just to trade him for a new rookie? We knew when we drafted DJ he wasn’t going to come in and contribute right away but he has improved and I think he can step in as the starting center when Kaman’s contract is up. I think we draft Aminu if he’s available, if not take the best on the board (although Chad Ford threw out Xavier Henry today as a possibility). With another young talented player (i.e. Udoh/Monroe/Davis), we set our hopes on a free agent SF.

I was watching NBA tv’s coverage of the draft combine and there are a lot of bigs coming out.

Deandre Jordan type guys; long,athletic and lots of potential .

I feel like Clippers could have won 35 games last year with out BG, had they stayed motivated after the Allstar break.

So basically adding BG alone will help big to over all team play and dynamics. Factor in a good free Agent, draft pick and coach, we should see a pretty good 2010-2011 season .

  Totally agree. We have the 8th pick, but we’ll really be getting a #1(BG) and a #8, which, any way you slice it, isn’t bad addition to what was on the floor last year. I just hope BD and Kaman come in as motivated for 10-11 as they were for 09-10.

I agree with kenji, coach should be no. 1 priority. I don’t believe the Clippers or anyone else has interviewed TT, nor will they be allowed to until the Celtics season is done. I do hope that they have made the behind-the-scenes courtesy request to Celtics to interview him, and made contact with his agent too. Other than Phil (never happen), I can’t think of anyone else still in the playoffs who merit consideration.

I was watching the combines too, and based on bad attitude and sluggish workout (the part I saw), Cousins will drop done from the top 8. If he falls to 8, he’d be worth the risk.

How do you guys know who Olshey has spoken to, hasn’t spoken to or met with? I don’t think we have any idea what he’s got going right now. I’m not stating this to defend Olshey. I’m simply saying that we have no idea how active or inactive he’s been.

We do know that he’s in Chicago at the combine and there’s plenty of top-NBA people there plus agents for him talk to. He could be laying a lot of groundwork, he could be doing nothing (although I sincerely doubt that). We simply don’t know. And how do you know that Olshey doesn’t want to trade the #8 pick? We may not know that until draft day.

The trades that a couple of you have proposed are fun if you enjoy fantasizing, but why in the world would the Warriors or Memphis even consider making the trades that were mentioned? You’re underestimating the intelligence of other GM’s or over-estimating the value of BD.

The conjecture is fun guys, but it’s nothing more than that.

    As for olshey….you’re right in that we don’t know who olshey has been talking to or what he’s been doing. but hearing and reading about every other team with a coaching vacany already being active in interviews and having their #1 targets decided, it makes for very unsettling feelings when there isn’t a peep coming out of the clippers camp regarding actual activity.
    
    if olshey wants to show us, the clipper faithful, that the organization is in a win now state of mind, then shouldn’t they be putting out information of who they have interviewed, if any? the complete lack of reports, even from the people most in the know, makes me (as well as others, i’m sure) believe he hasn’t interviewed anybody. Plus, he publicly stated that because he doesn’t believe they need a coach before the draft, so he’s in no rush to narrow things down. But in fact candidates will get narrowed down because all the best coaches are going to sign with teams that actually cared enough to interview early on while he just did nothing.

        did you read or watch any of his interviews after the bobcats were eliminated? he clearly stated that he has no intention of coaching for anybody other than michael jordan. and there were multiple reports from nba insiders saying that he would possibly take a front office position with philly if he were to go anywhere because his wife and kids live there. THAT my friend, is what i’m going off of, and that is all we can go off of. Unless you’ve spoken personally with larry brown in the weeks that followed you have no basis to refute.

Regarding the coaching search, maybe not paying your previous coach doesn’t exactly give your team a ringing endorsement among the other coaches.

I agree with all of you, us not making any noise on the coaching search is not helping our case and it sure as heck doesn’t help us that the owner is being cheap about paying up the ex coach. I feel that our two best options would be Tom Thidodeau (unfortunatly looks like he might be locked up) and I think our players would really respond to someone like Mike Woodson. I do believe we have a shot at GS pick because I know that if we switch picks, offer a 2nd round pick and cash I know they would bite because the team is currently under sale and the owner is in need of $$$ so it would be a likely scenario for us to get something. With the current players available I think we’re sorta stuck in the 8th position, its too early to draft some of the other players and too late to draft what we’re in need for.

Clippers don’t have much to trade and they need players. Unless the Clippers land a big free agent, they’re in the lottery again. Pick the best player available and make up their mind later on what to do with him.

Plus Camby signed with Portland for 2yr $1 Billion or somewhere along those lines. Camby got way overpayed, but regardless, a team that just signed him to an extention is not gonna trade him.

The Clippers will not trade up because the higher the draft pick is that they select, the more money they would have to sign him for, hence, reducing the maximum cap space available. They will pick the best player available at 8 and sign a solid veteran SF. Let’s be realistic, some of these trade options are ridiculous

The coaching position was the problem, and at this point, it still is. The Clippers need a defensive minded coach who is willing to run, very similar to the Thunder coach, Scott Brooks, who was the coach of the year

And what’s this deal about trading Kaman? Why would we want to trade the highest scoring pure center in the league who can constantly hit 15-18 foot jump shots???

Who could be that stupid to want Prince as our SF??? We need a forward with size, who can score as a second option! I agree we need to offload Kaman now, he is just not a winner. David Lee will fit great with us, plus he rebounds better and is more reliable. I would gladly offer Lee $60 mil./5 year contract. WE MUST try and get Danny Granger. To me Granger and Lee will make us a much better team than LBJ! I said it before:

  Why the hell would we waste our pick and money on drafting Udoh? We have DJ and we might have Sofo coming in. Blake and Butler are unrestricted free agents. TJ Ford is a headcase just like Baron and even MORE of a defensive liability. Granger’s good, but not a star. Lee would be undersized at center, especially in the West. This would be a defensive nightmare. This team would not make the playoffs and would be just good enough not to get into the lottery.

  He’s still an option for a second tier player behind LBJ, Wade, Bosh & Amare. Even though he sucked big time in the playoffs he’ll probably get more money than I think he’s worth, especially as a small small forward (he’s better at SG). I’d be happy with him but at what cost?

    Baron Played well for us until we were out of it, then he coasted thruough the rest of the season.. He improved a great deal over his first year here.. If we add a Lebron, D-Wade, Joe Johnson, Or Rudy Gay we’re in the PLayoffs next year with the pieces to do some damage!!

  Gordon is not a play maker, doesn’t rebound, and needs work on his dribble and finishing at the rim. However you can’t say he doesn’t play D after what he did to Kobe and Roy.

      Gordon misses layups. Unless he’s open enough to dunk, he’s not a good finisher. He does play the pick and roll well with Kaman though and since he doesn’t rebound, he’s good to run on the break. Of course he has a sweet 3 point shot too.

the trade Kaman for Prince idea is a slap in the face right there…the Pistons fans are even hoping they can get away with a fast one like that because Prince has no weight and he gets hurt all the time and is not too different than Outlaw

  There’s no way that would work out. That’d be ridiculous using up all the cap space on Brand. Even then, I’m not sure if we’d be able to sign Turner without going over. I’d much rather see the team try and resign Blake and C. Smith – along with Outlaw and Butler – then even consider taking on Brand’s contract.
  
  As well, this is under the assumption that Philly would be even willing to give up the 2nd round pick.
  
  Not to mention, I’m pretty sure the chemistry between Davis and Brand would be terrible.

Just read Yahoo’s version of the mock draft. They are showing Aminu getting picked up by the clips at the 8th spot….interesting.

  Hoopsworld has him dropping to the Clips too. I don’t think it’s cause of Aminu, but other guys performing well in the combine. It will be nice if he can fall to the clips. He’s 6’8″ which will make up for Gordons lack of height, and even though he’s raw, he will be ready in a year or 2 and can take over for whoever we sign this summer

To all the Clipper naysayers out there- in the summer of 05′, i claimed that the Clippers would make the playoffs with the addition of Sam and Cat. EVERYONE laughed in my face, claiming the ‘Clipper curse’ etc. They were wrong then, and many pundits will be wrong again. If we can’t get Aminu or Johnson, l really hope management gets creative and trades down. Paul George and Eric Bledsoe are better than Udoh. We do not need more big men.

i hate all the mock drafts that have the clippers taking a 6-9 power forward like udoh. isn’t that what they drafted last year? that would be like drafting 2 power forwards in the same draft. the clippers would never….oh wait. anyway they wouldn’t do it again. i don’t think.

The guy who said sign David Lee and trade Kaman had a point. Lee would be a better fit at C than Kaman (given that Baron is untradeable, and the team therefore needs to run). The FA market for PF/Cs is deeper than the market for SFs this year (i.e. if you miss out on LBJ and Memphis matches Gay, the rest is pretty subpar, but there’s Boozer, Bosh, Amare and Lee). Don’t agree that Kaman for RJ is a good idea though, Kaman’s worth more than that. For Kaman you’d want someone like Iguodala or Caron Butler at minimum. I can imagine a Baron-Gordon-Iggy/Butler-Griffin-Lee + DJ and best player available at #8 lineup being really dangerous.

  with turkoglu wanting out of toronto, what are people’s thoughts of using some of our cap space in a trade for him? In the right system hedo is a great SF and could really help the clippers. He has a solid perimeter and dribble-drive game.
