Promise to Aminu?

“Al-Farouq Aminu reportedly canceled his workout in Detroit. He much prefers going to the Clippers. Has a promise from them. Pencil him in.”

There are still plenty of wild card teams drafting ahead of the Clippers, but it sounds as though Aminu will be the selection at pick eight if he falls to that spot. We’ll have more on Aminu and his scheduled workouts as information becomes available.

How about the fact Corey Maggette is going to the Bucks on the same day John Salmons says he’s opting out? Maybe Salmons to the Clips? Clips, NJ, NY, ATL only teams that would pay him more than he’s making now…

Salmons or Rudy Gay? Hmmmm.

  Great news. Aminu would be that glue guy that this team desperately needs. He has the chance to be an elite defender with his huge wingspan and is already a great rebounder. We have enough scorers on this team. If Aminu can develop that jump shot, then watch out. Of course nothing is set in stone, but I’m hoping that this is true. Just stay away from Hayward.

    Oh and to answer your question on Salmons or Gay, I’d rather go after Rudy. He still has the potential get better since he’s still quite young and with the proper coaching he can really take off. I just hope the Clippers don’t give him a max contract so we have enough money to fill out our bench.

      Josh Childress is a better option. Better shooter, and cheaper. He’s not the athletic beast of Gay, but we don’t really need that.

Salmons turned down 27mil for 4 years. So he probably wants over 8 mil a year. I’m not sure I’d pay for him, he’ll be 31 next season, and 35 at the end of the contract. It might be fine, but it’s a high risk. I’d rather go after gay

  Salmons may regret his decision to turn down $27 for 4. At his age most teams would want to offer no more than 2 years.

  Yeah, I was likin AFA too, but after reading about Paul George, I get a better feeling off him. Especially since he grew up a Clip fan and is from Palmdale. I could imagine Afroman hanging out at staples to watch him play.

Aminu has the biggest potential out of the SF group in our range. . .at the very least he will be a good/great defender and rebounder (this cannot be said of the other SFs like Babbitt, Hayward etc), and there is video of him on draft express shooting jumpers- he’s not as bad as i would’ve thought, with practice he could become a great all around player like Gerald Wallace.

  I dont know that Aminu is the SF we should be getting. He is not known for his shooting ability, but rather his athleticism. We traded Al Thornton last year because we wanted a better shooter.
  
  George is known for his shot and has gobs and gobs of upside. Hes also very young. Im more sold on George at the 8th pick than Aminu just based off this teams needs. Then again I always tend to like projects, but we arent known for our ability to develop players with potential (Olowokandi, Miles, etc)

    The difference between Aminu & Thorton is Aminu is supposed to be a better defender and rebounder. Both good slashers though.

      I think BBIQ is a trait that also be looked at, the clipper team has very low IQs. Simple plays like an extra pass lead to easy scores.
      
      I prefer babbitt because he is a good rebounder, shooter and crafty.

      Thornton was a horrible defender. Honestly, I think it was his body type. It always seemed as if his lanky body was always trying to “catch up” with rotations.

The only thing to be concerned about going for Gay is that he is a restricted free agent.

After watching some video I think Paul George or Luke Babbitt should be our guys unless some freak of nature gets us Wes Johnson. Aminu has no range and Hayward just isn’t that athletic.

I hope the Kings take Cousins and agree to trade him and Garcia for Kaman. Then we can trade our pick to whoever will take Davis and try to get Collison+Okafor or Paul from the Hornets. Maybe figure out a 3 way trade with the Knicks who have 0% chance of getting Lebron.

I don’t know why jgroove is bringing Salmons into the discussion. Salmons is a SG. I think the Clips have much more glaring needs at other positions.

  We need a shooter. And Salmons can play the three. He is older than I thought though. I’d prefer Gay and don’t think Memphis will match.

    Maybe the next Lamar Odom. He does look stoned a lot and like he’s not trying up to his potential but has the potential. Like Wilcox but better. The same goes for Tim Thomas. Hopefully being 19 will change when he gets older. I want him.

Just what the Clippers need on their roster. Another outside player who can’t shoot. Aminu plays too much like Blake Griffin and we have, uh, Blake Griffin for that. We need someone who will add balance to the offense. Someone who is a threat from the three point line… Look how much better we were with Sool Butler on the floor, and he’s not even that great an outside shooter… George or Babbitt is the guy this team needs…

  We do need a defensive SF & a good rebounder as well which he does bring. 3 out of 3 would be good but considering how many teams have scoring SF’s I’d like a defender most importantly, especially since after we lost Camby we have one of if not the worst defensive teams and poor rebounding.

we need BBIQ on the floor and Babbit is the best fill for this need. it would be great to somehow trade Kaman for one of the picks while his value is high. We will never be a team that consistently wins with him on the floor.

I think we should get Paul George. I agree that we need a good defensive SF, but we also need another shooter to spread the floor for Blake and Kaman to do work inside. George is an immediate upgrade offensively at SF and the fact that Baron doesnt shoot that well anymore forces me to think that the Clippers are going to go with George.

I agree with everyone who says Paul George…he grew up a Clippers fan how often can we draft someone and say that?? Besides, Aminu is a project who can’t shoot, I don’t want to have to wait 4 years for him to be a legit starter. George can at least come in a spread the floor right away. NO on Hayward, and Babbit is questionable. Palmdales Finest!

Let’s get Sherron Collins or Lance Stephenson in the 2nd round if they last until then. NBADraft.net has us picking Collins with the 54th, reminds me of Ty Lawson…what do you guys think?

  I like Schyer better for the 54, he can back-up the 1 and 2 positions, and at 6’6″ that’s a plus and Duke players have played well for us for the most part.

As someone who’s watched pretty much every Wake Forest game over the past 2 years, I am SHOCKED at the number of people who have convinced themselves that AFA could be a legitimate SF. His ball-handling and shooting will have any coach revolted by the idea of him going anywhere near the perimeter. Seriously, name some other successful NBA SF’s who can’t dribble or shoot. Please. If the Clips are doing this with the idea that they’re filling the hole at the 3, this would be an unbelievably disappointing pick.

If there is any possible circumstance where we could not give up Blake Griffin, but could manage to replace Baron with Chris Paul, we should jump on it as fast as humanly possible. I don’t care who you have to give up, outside of BG.

You can learn skills like shooting and ball handling. You can’t learn wingspan and athleticism. Effort is hard to teach as well.

That being said, I think I would rather have Paul George, but it depends on the other moves we make.

  It happens alot, teams instead scouts to other team workouts. I think a workout is helpful but in the end, it’s the body of work that should come first. Some players can wow in workouts playing nobody, but completely stink it up during the season.

  Deng is no bust, but this makes no sense. AFA is considered to be a Deng-like player. Why take on Deng’s ridiculous contract when we can just take AFA?
  
  Cousins and George are stirring up a lot of chatter as being the best long-term picks outside of Wall, Turner, and Johnson. I say trade Kaman for Cousins+Garcia and pick George. If the Kings won’t deal, Kaman for Collison+Okafor.

The Clippers are not getting Deng and his $10mil + contract. At least not until they talk to the free agents. Maybe if the baron davis was included it might make sense.
