The Los Angeles Clippers have signed guard Willie Warren, their second round selection (54th overall) in the 2010 NBA Draft.

The University of Oklahoma product was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore in 2009-10, averaging a team-high 16.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 32.3 minutes per game while appearing in 21 contests.

A former teammate of current Clipper forward Blake Griffin at Oklahoma in 2008-09, Warren enjoyed a stellar freshman campaign that saw the Dallas, Texas native win the Big 12 Freshman of the Year award and average 14.6 points and 3.1 assists in 32.3 minutes per game while playing in 36 games.

An explosive, creative scorer with exceptional speed, the 6-foot-4, 203 pound Warren was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection in 2008-09 and was a First Team Freshman All-American while setting Oklahoma freshman records for games started (34) and three-pointers made (67)…

Warren didn’t earn any honors during his sophomore season, as his game deteriorated and he slid down the draft board. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but odds are Warren signed a one-year contract. Warren scored 10 points on Monday night, going 4-for-7 from the floor.

I’m glad we signed him. I hope Blake can really motivate Willie to play at a high level… hopefully Blake can motivate ALL his teammates to play more and assume a captain role ASAP!

  I think this is a good signing too Chandler. He has lots of upside and is a physical guard. No risk at all to this signing other than taking a roster spot but at the rate we are going this year who knows…..Bright side other teams have not been as active either and we all know some of these teams will be making moves to improve i.e. San Antonio, Houston and Denver. My soft side says the Clips have something going on in the background however my fact based head says this is it for this year in terms of FA’s. I hope DTS proves me wrong and brings us an NBA ready starting small forward.

still waiting for olshey to do something in the form of making a splash this off season. damn near every team is making moves to bolster their roster, while we’re looking to be no better than we were last year. it’s like after he shockingly lost out on lebron, olshey has curled up in the fetal position back at mommy’s house. forget all the complaining about what so-and-so’s contract will do to our payroll 4 yrs from now. having tunnel vision in that aspect is no way to win.

everybody complains that we don’t win, but don’t want to bring in anybody that costs money. Choose to either always focus on cap room years from now and accept losing, or choose to want to spend on vets that will help us win for the next few years. Vets with higher contracts have those types of salaries for a reason…they have the skills and are able to make a real difference!

  I really don’t want to hear about over-priced seconds in a sellers market. Not when we have a clutch of young prospects coming in. Give AR, NO and VDN a chance to see
  how this group they’ve assembled fit together. See who works here, see who doesn’t . Maybe, by trade tradeline time, a deal for BD for cap space space makes sense. Maybe, by trade deadlline time, we need to use our cap space (if we still have it) to shore up our needs. There is no need to blow our nut now. When we have a better picture, then we can make a useful decision.

What quality player is going to sign a contract to play backup on a losing team?

Given the situation, the Clippers have done a marvelous job this offseason.

The Brian Cook signing is still a head-scratcher. Otherwise, it’s a pretty fine roster that’s coming together.

The off-season is not over. However, if play started tomorrow, I think the team would be a more exciting one to watch than last season’s shambles. The wins should come along with that. However, at a minimum there will be a more entertaining product on the floor. That’s the most you can ask of any GM in this day. Period.

      Anyways, medicrity is amazing, remember how awesome it was when the clippers made it to the playoffs? It was so intense! At that point it becomes the luck of the draw, we got Denver and matched up well against them to get out of round 1. Almost pulled it off against Phoenix that year in round 2. Mediocrity is fun, lets us be contenders but still loveable underdogs. I can’t root for a team that is supposed to win. Where’s the joy in that????

  i’m with you on this one. al harrington would really bring us the type of punch we need. albeit he makes some dumb mistakes, but so does baron and kaman. we can’t let that blind us to the fact that harrington is still a very good player.

Al brings an outside shot as well as inside game with lots of length. He was targeting New Jersey, Utah and the clips from what I last read. Now that Jefferson has landed with Utah and New Jersey has committed lots of money to Travis Outlaw this could pave the way for an L.A. landing. We shall see.

Adam Morrisson doesnt give me an erection and make me run around the house like a giddy child but he certainly has the qualifications for what we need:

Hes a SF that can shoot the 3.
We wont have to overpay him on a long term deal.
He’s young enough to fit in with the rest of the core and was a high lottery pick. He hardly got any minutes the last 2 years.

Hes worth 1 or 2 years as long as we arent paying him more than $2M a year. Better to have Morrisson on a 2 year deal with a team option than to overpay Richard Jefferson for 4 years at over 10m a season as his numbers continue to slide.

        Oh, yeah. The season he played 30 minutes a game is the season he shot 37% from the field, 34% from 3, 71% from the line, 2.9 rebounds, and didn’t guard anyone. He’s too small and too slow to play the 3. Why would the Clips sign another backup for EJ? AM’s minutes have declined but his numbers have not varied. The best he ever shot from the field is 37.6%. The best he ever shot from 3 is 33.7%. There’s a reason he’s not gotten any time–because he can’t play. Another great college player who doesn’t have the skill set to play NBA.

I agree with Kenji. Nobody will ever confuse the Clippers with George Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner overspent, but he WON! It’s so nice to hear that the Clips have salary cap flexibility now. I prefer to have a winning team with little flexibility. The current roster won’t win more than 30 games.

The Clips aren’t a playoff team this year. If they commit $21 mil over three years to some middle of the road FA like Al Harrington or Mike Miller, they’re still not a playoff team. They would loose a ton of cap flexibility should a real opportunity become available. And they would hamper the development of the kids by giving minutes to a short-term fix. For what… an extra 8 wins? 9th place in the West instead of 11th?

The only SF worth today’s inflated prices is no longer available. Just because we have the cap space doesn’t mean we’re obligated to spend every penny. Play the kids. Fill the roster with league minimums. Hope that by this time next year, we look like the next Oklahoma City.

  Clips need to start looking for starting SFs with expiring contracts. Here’s one that works.
  
  Baron Davis to Charlotte for Boris Diaw and DJ Augustin. Both are expiring contracts. Augustin can shoot, Diaw can start at SF. Diaw’s not much of a 3 point shooter but has good passing and FG%. He’s also a decent defender. We get to get rid of Davis and get flexibility to try and sign Carmelo or CP3.

Take a closer look at the types of signings made by LAC this off-season so far…they are all accurate, 3-pt range shooters and Morrison would be another low risk addition. This will prevent oppents to pack it into the paint against the Clippers. So this means Kaman, SOFO, Griffin and Jordan will be able to score more down low with the offense spread out. And it also gives LAC financial flexibility going forward. This has been a very good off season. Let’s just hope and pray for no major injuries and WE will have to buy play-off tix in 2011.

The Phoenix Suns have like 5 small forwards and Jared Dudley just tweeted that he might be on the trading block to Bill Simmons. I think we should try to trade for Dudley. Call me crazy, but if we could offer Eric Bledsoe for Jared Dudley (an excellent 3 point shooter and talented enough to start SF with an emerging career) then I would pull the trigger on that in a heart beat. In fact, i would give Dudley an extension something like $20-24m over 4 years.

I really don’t know what else we could offer to the Suns for Dudley. With all of their SFs including Josh Childress I don’t see how they could reject such a promising PG prospect like Bledsoe.

However, that would mean we traded a future 1st for Jared Dudley – which if he can lock down our SF position until Aminu is ready I think he’s worth it.

We only invested the 2011 first round pick in Bledsoe, so if we trade Bledsoe for Dudley straight up it is like we never had Bledsoe…no different than a pre-draft trade in which we sent our 2011 pick to the Suns for Dudley then they used that pick to trade up and get Bledsoe in the first round.

      TNT, I understand and share your frustration. I just made that comment since you seem very upset. That’s all. But yes, this summer has been quite a disappointment. No big moves / trades to fill our biggest hole at SF is sad to say the least. IMO, the FO should have made an attempt to sign Childress, Miller, Salmons or Brewer. I also thought the Clips should have revisited the Deng trade after their talk with LeBron. Though he is overpaid, Deng would have made a good fit with the team. Of course, that’s too late now with Chicago striking out on the LeBron sweepstakes. I’m just hoping that a trade is in the works with a team looking to free up some cap space (Ariza / Battier of the Rockets come into mind), or a team looking to rebuild (Iguodala of the Sixers).
      
      If you really want to make a statement, stop your season tickets. That will definitely get their attention.

I’ve been talking with Lou and we’ve decided to go another way this summer. OKC only looks so smart because of a good guess in Durant. Had the Blazers picked him they’d be champs by now. We have yet to see what we have in Blake Griffin. Is he a Durant in the making? I think we should go after Ronnie Brewer, Josh Howard or T-Mac for our Swingman vet to round off the roster.

OK, now LOU has me pissed off for real. What is the mind set of someone who defends the decision making of the worst sports franchise in 30 years? It’s like a spouse who has been punched out by her significant other but keeps telling the police he’s really a good man. Why can’t you guys see that every time you defend these idiotic choices you just enable them to keep doing it. I had a friend who had season tix for 6 years in the early 90′s then just walked away. When I first got my season tix in 2003 he laughed and said to talk to him in 6 or 7 years. I thought he was crazy. He wasn’t. I was for not listening to him. the young guys have a long way to go, bledsoe is turn over after turn over and doesn’t appear to have a pure shot. the more i see of aminu the more i wish we had drafted hayward who appears to be more prepared to play at this level.

seems like all the teams have a go to guy who they can count on to score, we went almost two quarters without making a bucket. i just hope that olshey makes a deal for a SF quickly becauuse clearly aminu is not the answer for next season.

Hi again from Greece. After the second game the picture is clear . The better for sofo is to get back in europe . He can have a role in an NBA team but im afraid that he cant do that with clippers if they just put him run the floor up and down .

As for the summer leaque team , for a second game it was a disaster .

I cant understand why bledsoe keep on playing like that . He sign o contract so he doesnt have to prove anything . He should better try to produce some game for the others .

Aminu was better today . He can be a good player after he develope his game and get stronger .

Its the second game also i saw Deadre jordan . My opinion is that he is not
a center and without a mid range shot he cant have a role in offense as a PF . He is a good athlete but thats all .

  I totally agree about Bledsoe. He needs to grow up FAST. The guy has a contract and we know he can get to the cup already. He needs to show smart decision making, leadership, and court vision. He’s playing backyard pick-up game basketball.

  Hate to admit it but TMac might be the biggest upside guy left in FA, and he seems to fit all of our needs.
  
  I’m hesitant b/c he was given every opportunity in NY last year…an offense that he fit in and really should have produced in, but he fell pretty flat.
  
  Still, he fits our needs, he’s only 31 and despite all the ‘never been out of the first round’ talk he was one of the best in the league for years. In 2008-2009 when he dropped off some due to injuries he still had a PER of 16.9, which will be leagues ahead of anyone else we play at the 3 next year (gomes has been ~12 for the last two years, though he did hit 15.9 three years ago in min).

i didnt see the game but from what i read on nba.com and box scores i see lack of talent i do see rookie mistakes and the problem with the staffing already, uhm our new guards have to be less aggressive dont see alot of patients with this group at all, Deandre is not Chris at all he’s has to learn a real hard pick and drop move and a 1 or 2 step post up move he looks stupid shooting the ball, aminu is really gonna have to gt aggressive with his moves needs that killier instinct or he’ll remind us of al. coaching is gonna have to rely on the main core and the fa’s to come thru this season bc we are gonna lose alot of games with our bench

Sofo didn’t look that bad (not that we’ve seen many minutes of him). The summer league isn’t really made for him and he still needs some work, but I think he’s worth signing. If you use him right off the bench, it might be worth it. It seems like he creates a lot of space with his picks. You gotta give him some more time before you bash him.

AFA has some decent handles and a good first step. He holds the ball up high on his shot, but someone needs to fix his mechanics and get his elbow in.

T-Mac is meeting with the clips. 1 year vets minimum with an option for 2nd year is all we should offer him. I don’t think anyone else is interested in him.

Cavs are in a state of confusion and I think we can take advantage with an offer to dump Davis on them for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon. Williams will give us a 3 point threat that can start at PG and Moon can be our starting SF. Moon has athleticism, defense and a decent 3 point shot. Best of all they’re both expiring contracts.

Gordon, Warren
Moon, AFA
Griffin, DJ, Cook
Kaman, Sofo

That starting line up will give plenty of space for Griffin and Kaman. Not a great team, but it might get us to .500 and we’ll be in the running for Carmelo and CP3.

  If we really want Tmac we are going to have to offer him a little more than the minimum. His preference would be the Heat but he’s second guessing that because of the fact that all they can offer is the minumum. Chicago is also in the running for him, so we’re going to have to step it up.. I’m not saying over pay him at all, but give him something decent.. possibly 4 mil per year

  That’s a very speculative/hopeful trade scenario, although T-Mac may truly be the answer. As we are bringing him in for a workout, if we sign him it will be b/c he’s looking good as he’s supposedly been bustin his @ss w/his trainer, and that means it will probably be a good pickup for us especially with what’s left in FA. If we do sign him, he’d most likely be our starter and we’d have to sign him for more than our backup (Gomes), so it’s likely he’ll get $5M/year (not sure bout # of years).

i saw sofo play for the first time in a while…and for all the hype he was getting from people and Clipper fans in particular he seems like an overweight bum

  You obviously must have either watched two seconds of him or watched w/your eyes closed. Yes he did get dunked on when he was late as a help defender, but when a greater athlete tried to straight up posterize him one-on-one, Sofo more than held his ground! Not only that, but he boxed the crap out of people for rebounds and set the biggest, most ridiculous picks that PGs, SGs, and SFs would all dream of, plus he can run with the best of them. In the Euro leagues that he’s used to, the game play is a little different over there and he’s just going through and adjustment phase. Due to this, it appears that he needs a few minutes to get warmed up and get into the rhythm of the game and find his groove. But when he does, you can see his potential, in fact you are hearing this from me first, I’m calling that if this dude gets signed, he definitely will be top 5 for getting offensive rebounds off of FTs if you can find that stat. Dude just straight up moves people.

SL Game 2 that everyone didn’t, but should have seen:

The staff needs to get their act together -> Sofo = 15:41min, T. Johnson = 23:59min, M. Blakely = 14:57min, J. Richardson = 22:04!!!! Seriously WTF!!! I mean Johnson even played more than Warren!!!!

None of these guys are signed and I can understand that they want to give them minutes to see if they’re worth signing, but really, two of those no-name dudes got approx 150% more time than Sofo, WTF!!! Give him a chance to get some rhythm!! Dude prob wasn’t in for more than 5 min at a time!!! They can’t seriously be considering these other dudes (maybe NCM), so why are they taking time away from the people who need it most?

There can only be two logical explanations for Sofo’s mins, both of which I highly doubt are the case:
A. Sofo is really out of shape, he was struggling and they had to pull him out. = NO, did he even break a sweat?
B. Sofo and his camp asked for not that many min. = NO, he is auditioning and trying to get as big a contract as possible!!

What really happened is that the staff is just straight retarded. Start Sofo!!!! Him and DJ need to and can get on the same page, and when that happens it’s over. They just need time together, they couldn’t have played more than 5min together in that game from what I saw.

So why did Bledsoe play so bad in comparison to game 1? Well, unfortunately when NCM went out, I think he hurt his shooting hand , they also decided to take out Warren, and who did they put in? The NO-NAMES!!! not even Sofo, can you get anymore ignorant?!!! I almost cracked my tv scream w/my yelling!!! Of course Bledsoe is gonna have….

  a bad game, he didn’t have anyone to pass to, to spread the floor properly, to trail behind him after he drove to hole looking for guess what, nobody open!!! Yes Aminu and DJ were on the floor as well, but when the other dudes aren’t moving/playing in the right positions, one of their defenders can essentially cover 2 of our guys.
  
  Let Bledsoe, Warren, Aminu, Sofo, and DJ all play together for a while, in fact for most of the game. This is SL, you don’t actually make regular subs like you would in a normal game, play 5/6 (NCM) guys and only sub when they ask out due to fatigue and rotate DJ/Sofo/NCM between PF/C w/Sofo being the flex. It’s pretty simple, I’ll honestly do it for free.

Can someone with real juice give us a realistic outlook on who the clippers may sign as our starting small forward. I believe at this point our best options are mcgrady and matt barnes. richard jefferson is too expensive and he is not going to leave a contender for a hopeful. sounds like eddie mack may have some juice if he is in contact with olshey.

so can someone rank our realistic opportunities. If TMac is healthy and in shape, then clearly he is our best option, at one time he was an unstoppable force…

TMac can’t stay healthy if his life depended on it. I’m starting to get seriously worried about what we will do at SF, and I think our best option is to trade for Jared Dudley without giving up Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin or Chris Kaman.
