Dissecting the Side-Screen Roll Since 2006

Some New Threads for The Clips

Posted by D.J. Foster on August 16, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Do people still say threads? No? Oh. Well let’s just move on.

The basic motif remains the same, though there are some new stylistic flourishes. “Los Angeles” will appear on the primary red away jersey, which used to have “Clippers” in script.

In another change, Baron Davis is going back to No. 5 this season.

Of course, the unveiling couldn’t be complete without Blake interviewing DeAndre on his thoughts on the new uniforms. Here’s the video, courtesy of Clippers.com:

Let’s hear it in the comments section: What do you think about the new jerseys? I’d tell you how I feel, but I’m the one asking the questions.

My main problem lies not with the uniforms (Im colorblind), but with the presentation. The Clipper website boasted that the the unveiling would be at 1 PM, yet it took a couple of hours for an update to be posted on the site. While this is obviously not big news, a la “The Decision” why such a delay in posting pictures?

Once again the Clipper organization manages to alienate their die hard fans who have nothing better to do on a Monday afternoon then furiously hit “refresh”.

Can we get the boat somewhere in there? Really, a clipper is a ship, yet there is NEVER any reference in marketing (aside from the in-Staples lineups). Seriously, I bet there are plenty of people who think L.A.’s “other team” has something to do with haircuts or grooming of ones nails!

I thought the exact same thing. Seriously, is nobody in the organization going to point this out? They’re the exact same thing.

I can appreciate the more modern take on the jersey. It sounds like it’s mostly about the change in the material and the fit anyway.

They aren’t orange if you watch the video they are clearly red, whoever was taking the pictures for the clippers had a really high contrast on their camera.

I just hope with the clippers new look comes with a new attitude and maybe a change in the game meaning winning more than losing. Than you can say clippers not only change their coach, there uniforms, there offensive and defensive system, but also change there loses into wins. I hope thats why we got new jerseys to symbloze(dont know if i spelled it right) a new era for the clips and thats the blake griffin era could he really bring the clippers to light and fame of glory and step out of that damn lakers other team shadow. I would love to see the lakers attend the clippers ceromony in there own house for once

Looks very orange to me. Instead of Clippers, they should’ve put ‘Los Clippers’ ! :)

Personally, i would’ve liked for them to stay with the usual red, white and blue colors. blue as dominant color or White. (orange is no bueno).

I saw the uniforms in person as I was at the unveiling. They are red, not orange (though they do look orange in the photos). I think they look great. They also are very light weight. I spoke to DeAndre and he was very happy with them. It’s a nice update without going overboard.

I like the new uniforms, they are a modern take with a little retro. They are also very clean which is good, there is no need to over complicate them, leave that for the alternate jersey which will be announced in 2 seasons. Also the new fit is interesting and looks good on guys who are built like most of the young core is, however I am sensing that Smith and Kaman aren’t going to look good in a tighter cut.

  20. avatar First2One00 Said,

I like the home jerseys but the road jerseys kinda suck. The reason i say this is because the front size on “los angeles” doesn’t seem to match (too small). And I was feeling an “LAC” on the front by itself (similar to the Hawks ATL) instead of the los angeles cursive. I’m tired of the clippers using cursive on everything. PLus it reminds me of the dodgers and i hate the dodgers (i’m an angels fan). I’m getting myself an Eric Gordon home jersey though

I agree with this astute statement today in the paper by TJ Simers”

“The lightweight uniform with holes in it, seemingly tailor-made for the Clippers although everyone in the league will have them, was fitted to a mannequin with its head cut off — reminding everyone of Baron Davis running the Clippers’ offense, Davis wearing No. 5 this season because No. 1 never did fit.”

  24. avatar The Clipboard Said,

The four-letter network has a vote posted that has Vinny Del Negro as the worst coaching change. Typical east coast biased rehash — a real hack job; typical four-letter reporting on the Clips. No new real information, just stereotypical shots below the belt based on the past.

How can VDN be the worst coaching change when he has made the playoffs every year he has coached and the Clips can barely spell playoffs? So, let me see, VDN over Dunleavy is a downgrade? Not from what I’ve seen. It was nice to see that one person actually voted for VDN as “best” coaching change.

I would have voted for Doug Collins as worst coaching change. A retread who has shown over and over that he cannot win. He had Michael Jordan and was sacked when MJ realized he’s a loser. He and Elton Brand are perfect for each other.

p.s. – Like the new unis. Clean. Although the red numbers with the blue ‘Clippers’ on the home jersey is lame. BLUE NUMBERS DUMMIES! The Clippers remain style challenged.

Look guys… For an organization that’s been mostly stale, I LOVE the fresh look while keeping to our roots with the slanted cursive writing. The home unis are actually super CLEAN and Blake looks like a stud in them. They’d look really nice in the alternate blue as well which was my favorite of our past uniforms. LET’S GO CLIPPERS! Let’s go BLAKE!

The Clippers can build a beautiful practice facility, they can change coaches, GM, players and uniforms. Unfortunately, none of these changes will turn them into winners until they…
    CHANGE THE OWNER.
