Last summer, after a dispiriting first year as a Clipper, a chastened Baron Davis sent a message out to fans promising them that he would do everything in his power to lead the Clippers out of the Western Division cellar. When camp opened, even some skeptics were grudgingly won over by Baron’s svelte physique and improved quickness. It seemed that Baron had backed up his words with action during the summer, determined to redeem himself and prove the naysayers wrong. And Clippers fans held out hope that the dominating point guard that almost single-handedly took apart the top ranked Dallas squad in the 06-07 Playoffs was back; angry, focused, and ready to lead his hometown team toward respectability.

The Price of Leadership
A Quick, Pre-Season Interview with Eric Gordon
Today, Eric Gordon took some time out of his day to talk to the media about the revamped team, his performance in the FIBA World Championships and the Clippers exhibition game against the Spurs in Mexico City.
Media: You have a new coaching staff. How would you describe the new defensive system that’s being put into play this season?
Eric Gordon: Since we have a young nucleus of players we’re really going to get after it. Since we’re so young we have a lot more energy to play full court.
Clips pick up options for Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon
From the no-brainer file of the Clippers press release database:
The Los Angeles Clippers today exercised the club’s fourth-year contract option on guard Eric Gordon and the third-year contract option on forward Blake Griffin.
Gordon, originally selected by the Clippers as the seventh overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, begins his third NBA season and is now signed through the 2011-12 campaign. Under the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Clippers had the right to exercise these contract options.
Clippers Sign D.J. Foster
A few years ago during the twilight of the Brand Era, the Clippers were struggling and the pitchforks were out. At times, the task of reading through the comments section at ClipperBlog was dispiriting and onerous — until I’d come across a gem by a writer named D.J. Foster.
Surrounded by the screeds, D.J.’s comments were composed, measured and imbued with that uniquely Clipperish brand of witty fatalism. His work was objective, but not neutral. He imparted the passion of someone who had a love affair with basketball and the Clippers, but he also understood that the contour of the franchise’s sad journey always needed to be examined in a larger context.
Clips Extend Training Camp Invite to Jon Scheyer
From Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times:
Camp starts on Tuesday and it is a rather eclectic group of extra invitees for the Clippers, four players coming in on non-guaranteed deals:
– Jake Voskuhl: Oh yes, Clippers fans will certainly remember the big bruiser from his days with Toronto and and when he took out Zach Randolph a couple of years ago. That bone bruise lingered and lingered and lingered for Randolph.
– Jarron Collins: Another familiar face to SoCal hoop fans. Most recently Collins had a reserve role last season with the Suns.
