Mavericks 99, Clippers 83

With an ignominious start to the season, the Clippers had to try and right the ship against a big Mavericks team. Unfortunately, they were overmatched by the Mavericks. The most notable bruising came from whoever was guarding Caron Butler as he repeatedly drew quick fouls on Ryan Gomes and Farouq Aminu. On top of Caron getting the team in foul trouble, the starters shot the ball terribly, especially Kaman and Blake. Those two went 9 for 30 from the field. Not good.

Clippers 91, Warriors 109

If you thought that Blake Griffin was going to solve all Clippers’ problems, well, that’s obviously not the case. In the second game of the season, the Clippers lost to the Warriors by 18 and the second half of the game didn’t even feel that close.

The game’s first possessions started out ugly, as Clippers went to Chris Kaman to get them started and all he did was continue his cold shooting from Portland and go 0 for his first 4 shots. Most of his shots were ones he would normally make, he even missed a little bunny shot under the basket. Not surprisingly, the Clippers found themselves in an early hole that was compounded by the hot shooting of the Warriors.

Los Angeles Clippers v. Golden State Warriors Game Thread

Looking forward to tonight’s game against the Golden State Warriors (I’ll be live chatting at Daily Dime Live during the game). Never the most defensive minded team, this year’s Warriors team looks especially incapable of slowing the score down. Evidence: Wednesday’s 132-128 victory over the Houston Rockets. I’m guessing that there are going to be a lot more scores like this from the Warriors team, except the Ws might be less frequent than the Ls. That’s just what happens when you build around Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry and David Lee. None of them are known for their defense, just their highly efficient game at the offensive end. Check that score again. 132 points. Unbelievable. True, the Rockets have replaced Trevor Ariza with Kevin Martin, but they still have Shane Battier and Chuck Hayes to help. And I don’t care what team you’re playing, 132 points is a lot of points scored.

Vinny Del Negro: The Early Returns

Posted by Jordan Heimer On October - 29 - 2010

There were a lot of exciting firsts Wednesday night – too many to do justice to, really. Between all the buzz about the new uniforms, the revised logo, the upgraded plasma screens at the Staples Center, a revised slogan (Rise!) and some rookie going for 20 and 14, the new coaching regime was largely overlooked. So, in an effort to remedy that, a few quick observations about the Clippers’ plays and game plan Wednesday night, along with some possibly wild extrapolations that may or may not turn out to mean anything as the season progresses. Without further ado…

Portland 98, Clippers 88

In a Nutshell

New season, high hopes, disappointing result. The Clippers opened the 2010-11 campaign with a 98-88 loss to the Trailblazers Wednesday night at the Staples Center. The game was back and forth through three and a half quarters, until the Blazers put the Clips away with a 15-0 run midway through the fourth. Despite a failure to find a consistent offensive option tonight, the Clippers stayed competitive with high energy defense and an aggressive — if sometimes discombobulated — offensive attack. For the crowd at Staples Center, however, tonight was primarily about Blake Griffin’s delayed debut. After waiting almost a year and a half since Griffin was drafted to see him play his first regular season minutes, Clipper fans were treated to a performance well worth the wait.
