How the new CBA affects the Clippers

Posted by Jovan Buha On November - 30 - 2011

Pending ratification, the NBA is back. The terms of the new CBA have been released and there is a lot of speculation as to the short-term and long-term implications. Earlier today, ESPN’s John Hollinger and Chad Ford did a team-by-team breakdown of the impact of the new CBA on each of the 30 teams in the NBA.

Player Hating and Speculating

Clippers fans are a mostly private bunch. It’s not that they fear persecution from the hordes of Lakers fans they come across every day, it’s just that they’d rather not deal with it. It’s unfortunate, but any outward portrayal of hope by a Clippers fan is often thwarted with a simple, “It’s the Clippers.” The non-believers are quick to remind you of the team’s past and be the first ones to point out that dark cloud at the top of what might be an otherwise perfectly blue sky.

Welcome back, Blake!

It was nice following you on Twitter, seeing you in commercials and funny skits and on red carpets at award shows during the lockout.  You were all over our televisions, so in one way it was like you never left, but it’s your basketball skills that we enjoy watching the most, so we couldn’t be more excited to see you back on the court soon.

It’s time to start the show. The lockout is done, the NBA is back, and now it’s time to sort through some of the details of the proposed CBA and what it might mean for the Clippers:

  • Before we get into it, I should mention a really cool thing that happened as the word broke last night on Twitter. The Clippers started trending not just in Los Angeles, but the entire United States. Not the Lakers, not the Heat. The Clippers.
