Sources: Warriors Will Make Offer to DeAndre Jordan

“The Warriors had hoped to sign Dallas Mavericks free-agent center Tyson Chandler, but he is nearing a four-year, $58 million agreement with the New York Knicks. While the Warriors’ offer sheet wasn’t finalized, one source said the team is prepared to begin Jordan’s contract at $10 million next season.”

“The Clippers would have three days to match any offer sheet Jordan signs. Denver Nuggets free-agent center Nene hasn’t drawn much interest from the Warriors.”

But Nene has drawn interest from the Nets, who are reportedly close to offering him a four-year deal in the range of $60 million – $65 million dollars.

If Nene and Chandler’s deals get finalized soon, don’t be surprised if that $10 million dollar a year offer for Jordan goes up just a bit. With Caron Butler on board, the Clippers are virtually guaranteed to match whatever offer sheet Jordan signs elsewhere.

As for the whole Chris Paul thing? It’s going to be a few days for all the smoke to clear and for any talks to ramp back up. Sit tight.

I think it’s important to discuss DJ within the context of (what will likely be) our starting five.

The true value of DeAndre within a system based around Mo at the point, Gordon and Butler at the wings, and BG at the 4 is that he doesn’t really want the ball. While I’m not sure of the immediate applicability of usage rate when a player joins a new team with a new system, it is incontrovertible that our PG, SG, SF, and PF all need the ball in their hands in order to get work done. I certainly hope that Mo and Caron can, as the mature veterans they are, be effective next year as the second fiddle to the EJ/BG tandem, but I wouldn’t bet the house on it. Now, imagine if Chris Kaman, not DJ, is our Center. The three starters who SHOULD be least inclined to shoot, would actually be actually the most inclined to shoot. 9 out of every 10 trips down the floor would lead to a contested midrange jump shot (and Kaman, when he’s not shooting from 12-15, is waiting to be tossed the ball within the 12-15 ft range, so he won’t be in position to gather all those misses. That will be left up to our buddy Mr. Griffin).

DeAndre Jordan is the complete OPPOSITE of the other four starters. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be productive. In fact, he’s most productive when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands (put backs and his defense). Even if DJ doesn’t get a better handle on his freakish athleticism, his offensive threat is his ability to snatch the ball off an O-Rebound and either slam that shit home or get fouled (I really hope he spent a lot of time at the line during this protracted offseason.) He fits with our team and most importantly, when we’re up against a weak front court, BG doesn’t have to compete with someone to create some low-post offense. A necessary condition for a strong personal relationship amongst teammates is that they don’t fill the exact same roll, lest it become competitive instead of team-based.

Please resign DJ. I can’t watch another season of Kaman complaining getting stripped right under the basket.

  Yeah and that’s also the reason that I didn’t think that D12 would be so nice, because he needs the ball to be effective he is used to be him in the paint and shooters around him.
  
  But I think that Kaman is a good vet to have around while he is there, he’s being a tutor for both DJ and Griffin. And DJ really needs help with his pot game, you don’t have to be a offensive force but you have to be at least seem as a threat. And yes, ne really needs to get better at the line.

    If KAMAN is the wise teacher here we are all in big trouble. No offense but he’s an air-head. I’ve seen him at least 4 times looking over at the bench while the opening tip is in the air. He has no hand strength and is good for 5 or 6 strips under the basket per game. He thinks he’s Dirk and constantly shoots the 15 footer. He always looks gassed 5 minutes into the game. He has zero leadership skills. If he had any Dunleavy whipped those out him micro-,managing every move he made while the head coach. It seems basketball is a hobbie for him instead of a passion. I’d love to see the Clips get something for him now.

  Yes and that is exactly why Kaman had averaged more rebounds than deandre every year. Yes that is sarcasm what you fail to realize is that the only years Kaman actually shot more was when Elton Brand was injured and when our team featured Camby and Thornton I mean really, thinking DeAndre is in any way an upgrade is ludacris. Why did Vinny start Kaman not DeAndre when both were healthy last year? What you fail to realize is that Kaman will make Blakes life a lot easier than DeAndre sure I also love the putback dunks but really even in a great game DeAndre will at most have two in a game and just because he blocks shots like a volleyball doesn’t mean ita better than simply blocking and recovering the ball which is what Kaman does. In other words DeAndre is the hot blonde everyone likes to be seen with but at home is a b$&(? While Kaman is an average looking but great at home type.

    hmm, im gonna have to disagree with u on that. not sure if u remember but there was a few games that blake and dj started and the energy almost tore the roof off staples…and then dj got into fould trouble and the kaman entered and the team went flat and lost those games.dj has only 2 weaknesses, getting into foultrouble and his freethrows.other than that he is only 22 and his upside is off the charts.u dont let a 2 y/o big leave when u have room to sign him and all the pieces are set also.look how long kwamie brown was babied, not because of his skills, because he is a big.those guys are very hard to come by, and thats why u pay him the 10 mil a year.and keep kaman also.

Let him go! You still have Kaman and until next season to find another center. If used right Kaman can spread the floor and pull the opposing center out to help Blake Griffin get rebounds.

The problem is the Clippers have a Horrible GM and a bad coach.

  Kaman is awful. How many 1 foot shots does he AIRBALL? Quite a few. DJ dunks all of those easy attempts and causes a huge BUZZ in the stadium when he does. I pay to watch excitement, not AIRBALLS from 12-inches from a 7 footer. PS – Kaman gets called for travelling a ton, simply loses control and falls down or just flat out gets the ball stolen from him. He is atrocious…. or haven’t you been watching???

    My point was with a good coach Kaman is useful. I agree Kaman shouldn’t be dribbling, but he’ll hit a wide open 16 footer. A good coach just needs to give Kaman rules to follow.
    
    And his overall defense is better than DeAndre Jordon.

Now that it looks like the league may keep Paul and Howard with their current teams, Caron Butler may be the only major addition the Clippers make. So looking at the deal that way, it’s good. He’s the best of the small forward options that were out there, and he’s definitly an overall improvement. He’s only on a three year deal, and Harrison Barnes will still get a lot of court time his rookie year.

I figure Bryant pushed for the Paul trade. I hear on the radio that Paul was about to get onto a plane and fly to LA when he heard the deal was cancelled. Bryant was set to meet him at the airport.

Bryant has long pushed for a super point guard because he thinks that will make him look better. Remember when he wanted the Lakers to ship out Bynum for Jason Kidd.

Bryant also likely wanted to ship out Odom because of the Kardahian distraction, and he likely wanted to ship out Gasol because the two weren’t speaking last year in the playoffs after Bryant squealed on Gasol for running around on his fiance and then she called off their engagement.

Bryant must have thought things were really going his way.

If Paul doesn’t get traded this season, he may end up resigning with New Orleans. New Orleans will be able to pay him a lot more money than any other team under the new CBA. That may mean he stays there.

I understand why he wants to get traqded this year . . . because then the team he’s traded to will be the one who can pay him the extra money. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to walk away from New Orleans if tehy don’t trade him, regardless of what he’s saying now.

The Knicks won’t have any cap space to sign Paul as a free agent next year. Neither will the Lakers. So he’s likely to take the extra money and resign with the Hornets.

Same with Howard. Now that Arenas is gone, Orlando may have some cap space flexibility, and that may keep Howard there, along with the extra money they can pay him.

I don’t see how Howard can go to the Nets now, not after that Russian robber baron was tampering with him. In Russia that guy can do whatever he wants, but the NBA likely won’t let him defy their rules like this.

1. The Clippers shouldn’t have thrown Kaman under the bus saying they’re building around Jordan. This is telliing other teams that they’ll have to pay a lot for Jordan.

2. Couldn’t they wait until another team offers him a contract before raising the bar to 8 million. This bascially tells the Warriors, you have to bid over 8 million. Maybe if the Clippers played it cool, the Warriors might have offered 8 million and then the Clippers just match.

Why did Olshey show all his cards to everyone?

  The 5 year/$8mil offer was a good faith offer by the Clips to Jordan. It puts him just below what Kendrick Perkins extended for last year and tells Jordan that the Clips want him back. There is no way Jordan signs anywhere for less than $8 mil because big men always get overpaid so the offer was just preserving a good relationship with Jordan and his agent.
  
  I think Kaman knows he’s gone even if the Clippers didn’t say anything. He makes $12.5 mil this year and even if he is willing to resign at a hometown discount, that number would have to come down to $8 mil/year for the Clippers to want to keep him in the future. Kaman put the Clippers in a tough spot last year saying he doesn’t want to share the starting spot.
  
  Overall, I though the Clips have handled Jordan and Kaman decently. They didn’t lowball Jordan and they didn’t dump Kaman for pocket change. So resign Jordan (even though the offer sheet might make me want to puke) because part of that money goes to Jordan, part of the money is used to show Blake Clips are willing to spend and keep his best buddy around. Then trade Kaman to a team that needs a C.

If Golden State signs DeAndre Jordan, the Clippers have to match it and then trade him. If they’re going to trade him to Golden State, they’ll likely have to use a third team because Golden State doesn’t have anybody we’d want that they’d trade. They don’t even have a first round draft pick in 2012.

The best thing is to somehow get a good 2012 #1 draft pickfor him, from somebody.
New Orleans has their own #1 and Houston has the Knicks but not their own. Golden State, New Orleans and Houston are all said to be after Jordan so some kind of trade should work out. All three of those teams have some cap space which will make it easier to do a trade for Jordan.

I was just looking at the Clippers’ future draft picks. They’ve already given away their second round picks in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 (both of the two they have), and 2016.
. . . not that any of those really matter.

The Clippers have to sign DJ back. Chris Kaman is a joke and has lost any talent that he ever possessed. Not only is he an injury risk, he doesn’t know how to play up-tempo and does not play defense. With Griffin and Kaman in at the same time, you have no post defense.

I agree with whoever up there said to sign Gilbert only if they get a trade done and send Bledsoe away. If not, Bledsoe needs playing time to keep growing as the PG of the future. He has great upside, people forget how touted he was as a high school recruit and forget that he never really played PG for Kentucky, never had a chance to show how good he is with Wall handling the ball.

The only thing I am worried about is Williams learning how to pass the ball and Kaman getting the hell off this team. I would cut Kaman before starting him ever again.

Watch some interesting news thought I share the possiblity. Espn said clippers going to the playoffs this year is highly likely and since the new jersey trade won’t go through now howard might have his eyes focused on the clippers coming out of the playoffs. With kaman expiring contract randy foyes and using amensty on mo willaims we can get both dwight howard and deron willaims. I would love that just the clippers have to make it to the playoffs. The only thing is we might have to give up caron butler contract for aour minnies pick play time. Its not unrealistic but its nice possiblity

  These young black super stars have no interest in getting connected to a racist slum lord like Sterling. He’s cheap and he’s creepy. He sits there at center court like some demented vampire hunched over. He never cheers, smiles or reacts to anything. Clippers initial contract is 8$mi/yr, 40$mi total
Warriors 10$mi/yr, 40$mi total

To match that the Clippers need to offer 40$mi/4-yr? or 50$mi/5-yr?

Or can they offer another thing like 45$mi/5-yr?

Let’s think about this. Next summer we’ll need around 12 mil. for EJ and then around 16 for BG. Butler adds 8 mil to this and we have Mo at 8 mil as well. If we offer DeAndre 10 (matching GSW offer), then in 2 years time we’ll basically be at around 54 mil. for our starting 5. I have the feeling we won’t have all those guys in 2 years time!
