Via a report from Brian T. Smith of the Salt Lake Tribune and brought to my attention by the RealGM wiretap, the Clippers (along with the Heat, Warriors, and Pistons) are interested in signing free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko.
He’s 7’1 and 24-years-old. He has spent all 4 seasons of his career so far with the Utah Jazz playing sparingly (and that’s understating it, considering the 1,090 total minutes over those 4 seasons) and quietly. He’s excellent defensively (which is exactly what the Clippers need), pretty bad on offense (no big deal for the role he’d play on the team), and a slightly below-average rebounder (not ideal, but the team has other guys who can clean glass).
The problem here is obviously that there are other teams interested in acquiring his services and one of them is the Heat, who are going to have a better shot at basically any low-cost acquisition like Fesenko because they’re favorites to win the title.
In other words, this guy would be nice to have, but there’s no information to indicate that the Clippers are front-runners to pick Fesenko up. So don’t get your hopes too high.
