1. What happened in San Antonio?!

Breene Murphy: Bad Clipper defense with the lion’s share of the blame heaped on Blake, Chauncey, Caron and Vinny. Blake needs to provide better effort, Chauncey had no chance against Manu and Caron helped off Jefferson too much. Vinny, though, needed a halftime adjustment to get the Clips to close out on the Spurs corner threes, shouldn’t he know that?

Behind the numbers: The tale of two games

Before you abandon ship after the Spurs’ 115-90 thumping of the Clippers, please remember that I (as well as other writers) cautioned this type of game(s) would occur early on in the season. But don’t panic — the Spurs are a good team (if it weren’t for their awesome shooting night, this game would have likely resembled the Spurs victory over the Grizzlies) and the Clippers are still developing. If it makes you feel any better, the Warriors just beat the Bulls and the Knicks, proving that they’re no scrub team.

Perceived Passivity and Other Observations

Before I go in on the subject I most want to cover, let me first say that the real issue in tonight’s 25-point road loss to the Spurs was not the Clippers’ offense. It was their inability to guard Manu Ginobili or DeJuan Blair or Richard Jefferson. We could expect Ginobili to abuse  Chauncey Billups’s old bones, and we might have expected to give up some open 3-point looks to the opposing wing(s). But to have DeJuan Blair take your team to the woodshed is not a thing that should happen to anyone, barring some very strange circumstances.

1. Do the Clippers have the perimeter defenders to contain Parker and Ginobili?

D.J. Foster, ClipperBlog: Chris Paul can stay in front of Tony Parker and harass him with his quick hands, but Manu Ginobili is a nightmare matchup for Chauncey Billups. The way Manu can control his body and shift directions is going to be tough for a guy like Billups, who doesn’t have the foot speed or quick hips to be a good isolation defender.
