We won because Gomes played 1 min.

Dude, stop dissing our players. No, Gomes is not the greatest backup small forward, but the last I checked, he boarded the plane, and suited up for the team. Credit the coach for recognizing which players are earning their minutes.
Gomes has from time to time, made a difference. If we as Clipper fans don’t support our players, no one else will. You’d think Jones and Gomes are kinda not too excited with the prospects of Kmart joining the team.
The bench options will probably go small with Bledsoe, Mo-will, Foye, Evans and Kmart. That should work. Gomes, Jones, Cook, Thompkins and Leslie will DNP the rest of the season, or until Olshey gets us a 2-guard which in all likelihood will not happen. C-Bill is going to be fine there, especially come playoff time.

I bet u wearnt saying this last year when it was alot clearer how bad he is. Just because im a clipper fan dosent mean i cant tell the truth. Gomes is a bum and we arent going to to anything this year if he’s getting big minutes. He cant gaurd is own shadow hes an average nba player at best.

You can’t have a team full of stars. Anyone remember the late 70′s and early 80′s Philadelphia 76ers? Dr. J, Henry Bibby, Mo Cheeks, Andrew Toney, Doug Collins, Caldwell Jones, Steve Mix, Clint Richardson, Darryl Dawkins, Bobby Jones, All these stars, but only 1 basketball. You have to have role players like Gomes and Cook. No one is going to give you a Fernandez for nothing, or some of these other names for free. Gomes and Cook came here when no one else would. They’re our players, Cook was the 1st one to Playa Vista when the lockout was over, and Gomes has had a few moments. These guys are buried on the bench, and will be DNPs once Kmart gets here anyway. I defended Cook earlier this year, and I hated Gomes last year, but Aminu didn’t get better, so we had to go with that. Remember, no one else
would come here, but Gomes, Cook, and Foye agreed to last year. They didn’t have to. Stop dumping on them, they are Clippers.
Respect that. If we can’t respect our own players, no one else will.

Gomes works on the defensive end, we dont need any more scorers we need defense!. He makes plays here and there. Im ok with him as a backup as long as he’s not shooting.

Wow, i should get an award for listening through both part1 and 2 of this clipper blog… lmbo.
It will be an interesting game tonight!. I like that i’ve seen the best out of our guys vs quality opposition teams. OKC won’t be the exception. Not in our house!
Even if we get blown away tonight, we still can’t argue that CP3 is saving the best for when it counts (meaning playoff time).

There is a double standard as people actually defend Ryan Gomes, yet say nothing as a round table of Clipper bloggers rip all over Brian Cook. Ryan Gomes may be a nice guy and Brian Cook may have once played for the dreaded Lakers, but they’re both crummy players who should be watching the games in suits. There are free agents who can be had for the minimum that are better than both these scrubs. The one good thing Brian Cook does have over Ryan Gomes is his contract. As Cook won’t likely be here next season, while the Clippers will be saddled paying Ryan Gomes for another season.

It’s not a double standard. Ryan Gomes was a good player and still should be. Something (someone) has ruined his confidence and he just doesn’t fit well with the team. I have little doubt that he will be good again with a different team and coach.
Cook on the other hand was NEVER a good player. I’d say the highlight of his career was last season when he gave effort and knocked down some shots.

Well his play sucks for the Clippers and as long as he plays like a good mannered scrub, than Clipper fans have a right to critique his play.

How much better would the Clippers be if they had traded a second round pick for Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer?
Doesn’t that give them:
1) A true shooting guard who can stretch the floor that can take Foye’s minutes
2) A defensive stopper that can take Gomes’s minutes

George Karl would impregnate Rudy Fernandez and marry him if he could, doubt you could pry him for a second rounder. He also seems to be finally be having fun in Denver.
Brewer though…might be able to get him, but still, lots of people still remember his college days.

@bongstradamus – Bob was talking about what DEN gave to DAL for Rudy and Brewer and that the Clips could have also given DAL a 2nd round pick.

Before we move on to a OK city discussion, on a side note regarding Denver. That Galanari kid can ball. He’s only 23 and as Ralph and Mike stated, Denver may have done better then most thought in the Melo trade.
Anyhow, Go Clipper!

My 2 cents on why, barring injury, this Clipper team could contend for the West:
If you look at last season, the Clippers played OKC, Memphis and post-Melo Denver very tough. I’m not sure but I think they split the season series with those teams. If you look at this season, 2 of the 3 teams are atop the Western Conference and are largely the same team. You could also argue Memphis should be a top team if not for the injury to ZBo. Only the Clippers have improved their roster but sacrificed continuity to do it. Considering an average level of familiarity to form as the season progresses, one would expect the Clippers to play at least on the same level as the other top West teams.
Do the Clippers have weaknesses? Of course, but bench depth was an issue last season as well (Kaman out with injury, Gordon injured forcing Foye to start) and we didn’t have a CP3 or Caron in the lineup or Mo coming off the bench. Simply having Mo on the bench one could argue that the Clippers depth is much improved from last season. Bench depth will be less of an issue in the playoffs when teams rest every other day and rotations are shortened anyways.
I continue to believe that the biggest threat for the Clippers are the superior coached teams (SAS, DAL) as these are the teams the Clippers struggled with last season and this season. You could make the argument that DEN is another well coached team but considering the Clippers just won @DEN I’m going to say they are about even.
Hopefully, the Clips go out tonight and put on a good show and don’t completely debunk my theory.

I agree.
IMO we can’t compare last year’s to this year’s. A major difference is that this team is a playoff team, last year’s.. well.. it wasn’t.(mayb 8 seed before we found out about Baron’s inability to come in season shape, or when Kaman decided to get injured at the start of season)
The way they ran old teams out of the game with speed and agility, its not happening this year. This season we got more formality, feels more of a playoff team which by no means should be compared to last season’s wilder team.

I dont agree on calling it a good piece… esp. with his Exhibit ‘D’ fail!

My verdict is still out on VDN, Lately he’s shown flashes of him actually making a positive difference in the game. The proper taking of time outs, the right analogy that he gives during break are right on spot of what the team should do/ lacks of. Lets see what this team does during playoffs then lets kick him to the curve if necessary. Besides the Utah game, i can’t say that this team has failed. (u win some u loose some during reg season that’s all) as long as we see progress, and i do see progress.

Kaman update, from NBA.com
The Hornets’ unusual step of publicly acknowledging they were shopping Chris Kaman creates a buyers’ market for the 29-year-old former All-Star. With Kaman’s agent, Rob Pelinka, working on potential deals as well, New Orleans won’t lack for potential suitors. It also helps that the Hornets have recalibrated their initial demands of an expiring contract, a young player and Draft picks for Kaman. League sources indicated this weekend that the Hornets — and, by extension, the NBA, which owns the team — now realize they’ll have to at least take some salary back for Kaman. But New Orleans is still looking for a first-round pick, and Lottery-bound teams that might be interested in Kaman aren’t going to give up those kinds of picks. That would leave good teams at the bottom of the first round as more likely trading partners. (Also keep in mind that Kaman, having been dealt to New Orleans on Dec. 14, can’t actually be traded under the CBA until Feb. 14.)

The win yesterday was great, but it sure showed how weak the Clippers are at center. They won despite their centers, certainly not in any way because of them.
Only one of the starters didn’t have a positive +/-, and everyone knows who that was.
Jordan had his typical offensive game, in that he was unable to generate any offensive threat on his own and could only score on open dunks and was a wobbly 3-7 from the field.
Meanwhile he got worked by Nene who was 9-12 against him.
The Reggie Evans charade has to stop. The guy is not good. In 12 minutes yesterday, he had a negative -13 +/-.

They (NO) are going to get a first round pick in the same way that the Clippers will get one
