    Good win.

Watching dunk of the night on espn. Has a small clip of Eric Gordon in background of Griffin dunk…I love cp would do the trade any day but I kind of miss Gordon and his skills.

  4. avatar Lou Said,

Eric Gordon had to change his style of play to avoid to get hurt so often. His size does not allow him to play in another way.

  5. avatar DeMote DeAndre Said,

I’m glad for the win because of the standings, but people have to be realistic about how the Clippers played last night and what it indicates for the playoffs. The way the Clippers looked last night they won’t get out of the first round. A change has to be made.

Denver was without three of their starters, not just any three but their main three starters (Nene, Gallinari, Lawson). They also were without two of their main reserves (Anderson, Fernandez).

Denver also was playing their last of five games on the road. Obviously, they ran out of gas in the 4th quarter when they were outscored 23-16. Denver lead at halftime.

Paul and Griffin were excellent, and that is typical. Butler was OK. Everybody else was varying degrees of bad.

Jordan had a +/- of +1, but that was by far the worst +/- of any of the starters, and he obviously was being carried on that by Paul (+22) and Griffin (+19). The Clippers benefited because so much of the Nuggets big front line was out with injuries allowing Jordan to get better stats than usua, but he still missed almost half of his in close shots. Jordan plays all right against small front lines and front lines that are second string. That’s what he faced last night. (Denver didn’t have a single quality player on the front line).

There will not be games in the playoffs where the opponent does not put a single quality player on the court along the front line.

That’s what the Clilppers should be worried about. They shouldn’t delude themselves.

DJ pretty much carried the 1st quarter, dude. He rebounded everything in sight. His 9 offensive boards gave us a lead in second chance points and he had 3 blocked shots. Thats a potential difference of 12 additional possessions, easily could be considered the margin of victory.

demote would rather lose without DJ than win with him. demote response: “I always want to win but it is impossible to with with DeAndre. He cannot win. Only jump and run.” :D

  6. avatar Superman Lover Said,

Deandre Jordan + Mo Will + E Bledsoe + Foye (expiring contract) + Cook (expiring contract)

    for

    Dwight Howard + Jason Richardson

The contracts situations all match up perfectly in this proposed deal. To a tee.

If I’m Otis Smith, I take a very hard look at this deal. I would much rather take this deal than a Brook Lopez + Marshon Brooks + Draft Picks package.

    D.J. Foster Reply:

Gotta get picks back if you trade Dwight Howard. I think that would be the biggest obstacle for LAC trying to acquire him.

WOW if that trade really happened, I would have an accident in my pants.

But D.J. is right. Otis Smith will want 1st Round Draft Picks in return. And a lot of em, at that.

  7. avatar Tim Said,

Dwight Howard, Blake Griffen, Caron Butler, Jason Richardson, and Chris Paul as your starting 5? Ok, so I guess sign Earl Boykins, see if Travis Leslie can play, and go with Gomes, Evans, and Kmart? How do we get this deal done? Clips4, I’m sure has a totally logical explanation as to why this won’t work, I’m waiting, so go ahead.

    AH Reply:

That would be a terrific starting 5 but, as you already stated, Clips would be pretty thin on backcourt bench. And any team that is relying on current incarnation Gomes…

But that aside, is this based on Superman Lover’s hypothetical trade? Orlando would at a minimum want to get rid of Turkoglu’s contract. And based on the way the trade is constructed, you’re expecting Orlando to trade Dwight Howard and Jason Richardson for DeAndre Jordan and Bledsoe. Mo is a player option and he will not accept being a 6th man for a putrid Orlando team.

Think about what was traded for Carmelo, CP and Deron Williams: Young prospects on rookie contracts, high 1st round picks and players that are productive AND expiring. You’d need at least the first two if not all 3 and be willing/able to take back Orlando’s bad contract (Turkoglu).

    Clips4 Reply:

That would give us a great starting 5. Although, that would destroy our bench. We would have zero guard play off the bench. Earl Boykins is too old and wouldn’t be a good fit for this team. Not loving this unless we are holding out for next year.

  8. avatar Nick_C Said,

I really don’t think we can call these “bad shooting nights,” for Foye anymore. He made 3/11 FG and 3/8 3FG. Those are pretty much his averages for the past two seasons (38% FG 32% 3FG). On a good night he makes 5/11 FGs. This is really a pretty much average shooting night for Randy Foye. And yeah, it sucks.

This team can’t compete for a championship with Foye as the starting 2. He doesn’t fit there at all. He’s a bad shooter who likes to have the ball in his hands (he’s much better as a pick and roll player, but doesn’t really get those opportunities, and shouldn’t, with Chris Paul on the floor with him).

He’s replacing Chauncey Billups, who was an excellent shooter. The whole reason why this doesn’t work can be summed up with one statistic, points per possession in spot up situations. Billups was the 13th best spot up shooter in the league this year before his injury. Foye, so far, is 140th. Billups got 1.29 ppp, which just trounces Foye’s production of 0.9 ppp. So, basically, the Clippers now have a jump shooting offense, with a shooting guard who can’t shoot.

    D.J. Foster Reply:

Great stats and great point. What’s scarier for me than Foye’s suspect shooting performances is that he contributes nothing elsewhere. I think he’s historically bad on the glass, and he doesn’t really create or play good defense. Probably safe to say he’s one of the league’s worst starting shooting guards right now.

    Nick_C Reply:

Definitely, I didn’t want to even get into those other areas. He’s basically been a disaster. It’s kind of like having Ryan Gomes as your starting small forward…

So, looking to next year, who do you go after at SG? To me it seems like they’d be hard pressed to acquire someone before the trade deadline without offering Mo Williams, and maybe even with offering Mo Williams. Would you trade Mo Williams for a decent young rotation player at the wing, plus salary cap space? It could potentially set the team up really well this summer because they can also jettison Gomes’s salary through the amnesty clause.

    D.J. Foster Reply:

Personally, I think they’ll most likely play this season out and wait until the summer to make moves. I’ll have to look and see who is available at shooting guard, but I’m sure there’s a viable option out there next year.

  9. avatar pez Said,

Just searched the site for Wilson Chandler and nothing recent came up…

I may have this wrong, but I believe Wilson Chandler is a restricted free agent, I haven’t looked into how this might work, but wouldn’t he be pretty close to a perfect fit?

    Thumb up Thumb down 0

    avatar

    AH Reply:

Wilson Chandler would be a perfect fit, but as you said, he’s RFA. Clippers would need to free up ~$10 million in cap room to seriously threaten in signing Chandler. Otherwise, Denver will simply match.

Also, the new CBA dictates teams cannot do in-season sign and trades, so working a deal out with Denver would not work out.

    bongstradamus Reply:

We can ship Mo to Indiana to clear cap, they can absorb the contract outright, then make a run at Wilson Chandler with an offer of about $8M. Then again, Indiana could offer Chandler pretty much whatever they want. Thank God they have Granger and Paul George already.
