For four games in January, the Clippers gave Fortson a chance to soak up some NBA minutes while Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups and Mo Williams nursed themselves back to health.
Of those minutes, a few were actually “meaningful” as a result of the injury situation, but the majority came during a blowout loss to the Jazz. With the team shorthanded, Vinny Del Negro threw in the towel around the 2nd quarter and let Fortson run the show. In his second NBA game, he responded with 13 points in 22 minutes.
While he may not be Jeremy Lin, the opportunity for a D-League point guard on the Clippers ain’t what it is on other teams. He was waived at the end of January.
