Monty Williams on Blake Griffin, Flopping

The idea that Blake Griffin is the biggest flopper in the NBA is ridiculous. Yes, he often exaggerates contact, but he doesn’t come across as trying to invent the appearance of a foul out of thin air. Furthermore, I imagine that the exaggeration is a result of not getting calls quite often when he is fouled. Players do this all the time and it’s a completely logical response to not getting calls. If you were getting hacked all night and not getting calls, eventually you would start exaggerating the contact to make sure that the ref sees that something’s happening. No, it’s not ideal, but it’s going to keep happening until refs are perfect. I’m much more bothered by plays where there is little to no contact and someone just goes flying, and I haven’t seen that with Griffin much.

For people to get on his case for dunking is nonsensical. What’s the highest percentage shot in basketball? A dunk. So, if you have the opportunity to dunk, why wouldn’t you? It’s not like he’s out there doing 360 windmills on fast breaks. The Hornets don’t dunk because they can’t, not because they think it’s unsportsmanlike. For Monty Williams to pretend otherwise is disingenuous.

All I know is, clips have got the leagues attn.so they must be doing something right. Oh yeah,flopping+80s=Crafty.
