Brooklyn has agreed to a 3-year, $5M sign-and-trade for Reggie Evans, sources tell Y! The Clippers will get a distant future 2nd round pick.

  I believe the Clippers will get a trade exception for whatever the first year salary is for Reggie Evans. Probably around $1.6 million.

  We won so many games with his hustle plays. Instead of trading that useless Center of ours, they have traded a player who gives you 110% every game.

wojo just reported a 3m exemption to go with the pick. should be interesting to see where we go with the backup 5. looks more and more like odom will spend lots of time backin up the 4.

we did this because reggie would have went there anyways (because its a 3 yr deal and its hard for him to consistently stay on a team), so at least we get an exception and a pick

  I’m fine with letting Reggie go. There are plenty of bigs out there that are better players anyway in terms of offensive prowess, rebounding ability, and energy. Ronny Turiaf is available too and could be a Reggie Evans type replacement.

        DJ will come back with some semblance of a post game and he may shock some people. That is the hope of many people for this year. If DJ can average a 12 ppg and 10+rpg, along with 1.5bpg, that is Tyson Chandler territory right there.

        Even if DJ scored 12ppg, 10boards and 1.5 blocks he still need to be able to defend.

        As an individual defender, that is all on DJ to work on in terms of his post-defense and boxing out to get rebounds. In terms of defensive team rotations and knowing where to go for him to be able to communicate to his teammates, that is on the coaching staff.

We have a shot at getting Ray Allen now because we have the most to offer with available money and a huge role in terms of being a starter and playing big minutes.

  Thats right, especially if Boston signs Jason Terry. With Bradley being the starter in the backcourt with Rondo, is Ray Allen going to share minutes with Terry off the bench? Is Ray Allen looking to back up D-Wade down in Miami? I think Jesus Shuttlesworth would prefer to get paid, and start in the Hall of Fame backcourt of CP3 and Ray Allen.

    I am all for this if VDN can create a team defensive scheme that will hide Ray Allen’s age and defensive liabilities like Doc did in Boston. Ray Allen has the best pure stroke in the game but is no longer able to create his own shot and is only able to be a spot up shooter. If Ray does decide to join the Clips, I hope he can show VDN the defensive schemes Doc devised in Boston and school him on what a good defense looks like so it can be used to take advantage of the length and athleticism our frontline has.

      if we sign allen then i doubt we could sign chauncey, who would probably demand a little less, works as an assistant coach on the floor, and keeps cp3 happy. i know allen is great, but chauncey just seems like a better fit for the team

Sorry to see Reggie go, but we got bigger fish to fry. Could Vinnie and CP convince Ray-Ray to stay in LA? Goodness, getting the best available big (besides KG and Tim Duncan who we all knew weren’t going anywhere) and the NBA’s all time leader in made 3′s, would be a nice off-season haul for the red, white and blue. Here’s to hoping the Pacers match the offer for Hibbert (and they should), and some how Batum ends up in Minnesota. In other news Darius Morris got signed (who?) hahahaha!!!

Well, maybe K-Mart does return? Interesting. I am starting to get concerned about landing the proper 2 though. If Crawford or Allen don’t come here then it looks like we’re trying to nab OJ Mayo (although Memphis can match) or – hopefully – Foye is still around.

The longer the Clips take to land someone, the more they may have to over-pay for Foye or even Nick Young.

  Of the 3 (Crawford, Mayo, and Allen) available 2′s out there, Ray Allen would be best in the short term but in the long term, I would much rather have OJ Mayo.

      Mayo won’t get more than the MLE from most teams who can contend though. That’s the thing. If Mayo does not care about winning a championship then he’ll go to a team that’s rebuilding and has cap space and will get overpaid. I’d say Mayo is not worth more than what Caron Butler is making right now.

  I thought Memphis did not make a tender offer to OJ Mayo, if they didn’t then he is an unrestricted free agent, Memphis can’t “match” in that case.

3 point guards on roster is better than 5. Keep CP, Bledsoe, and Billups, and let Ray-Ray and Swaggy handle the shooting guard spot. Our backcourt would be all sewed up. I like removing Mo, and Foye, and adding Allen, and Young, while keeping the others. Let Thompkins and LO back up the 3 and 4 positions, and lets go sign a legit back-up center. Who would take a pay-cut to come play for a real contender? Marcus Camby would be so sweet, I know, not going to happen. Use LO as a highbred point forward Andre Iguadola/Lebronish type back-up 3, Thompkins as the true stretch 4. Does anyone miss Olshey? Not if we sign Ray-Ray. But what about that slashing wing? I guess you can’t have it all.

  we can’t sign billups ray and young. and we don’t need 3 pgs when we got bledsoe and cp3. billups can handle the sg, young can handle backup sf, and a crawford type could be backup sg if allen doesn’t work out. It would be tough to keep them all in salary range which may call for an amnesty

    3 point-guards is security incase something else goes wrong, and keeps CP happy if it doesn’t. Young and Allen give us 3 pt shooting at all times, which is a Del Negro trait. Crawford? No way jose. With Paul, Allen, Chauncey, Nick and Bledsoe, you have everything you ever needed in a backcourt, and more! Outside looking in, if you have Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Ray Allen, Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, Chauncey Billups, you might find yourself saying, damn, thats nice! What’s it going to take to get me on that team? Mr. Young, we’ll be asking for the hometown discount just for these 2 years, and then we’ll work something out for you, DEAL!

Interesting. Evans was an UFA so not sure why they decided to do sign-and-trade. Perhaps had to do with the length of the contract. At least the Clips got trade exception and a second rounder which they can now package along with other player(s) now or down the road.

When the Clips got LO, Evans had to have seen the writing on the wall. Same goes for Simmons. LO basically replaces both and if Clips intend to use LO as the 6th man, then minutes up front will be limited. LO may also make KMart expendable which would leave Clips looking for a large big as the backup 5. Maybe Dampier or Aaron Gray.

  We don’t need K-Mart at this point. LO is a better player overall. The Clips need to take a look at backup centers. If Dallas uses the amnesty on Brendan Haywood, I would consider scooping him up. I would love to have Spencer Hawes with the MLE but if that is going to go to Ray Allen or OJ Mayo, then Hawes will be out of reach for us. I don’t want Dampier because he’s too old and not good for anything anymore. Aaron Gray doesn’t fit the mold of what this team needs.

    Haywood…yikes. I think we’re better off raiding the throwaway closet for Sean Williams on minimum than getting tied to the rest of Haywoods contract. He has 4 years left of a 6 year deal.
    
    We can always have Blake play some 5 (especially during stretches so he can focus on his defense) and let Odom slide to 4 which opens the 3 for Caron.
    
    I think we need to go all-in on DJ. We didn’t pay him $10M a year to sit on the bench for 3 quarters a game. He needs to play more and we need to make sure he’s developing. We can get other athletic F/C’s to cover any load and theres always Trey Thompkins sitting on the bench wondering when Vinny will let him play.
    
    More concerned at this point with starting 2/wing.

      Andrew Han, can you help us out with this on how the payout works for teams who pick up amnesty players off waivers with more than one year left on their contract? I know the team that amnestied the player is on the hook for the difference in the price of the auction numbers that the receiving team will pay for scooping up the player.

        As I understand it, teams under cap can submit a partial bid. If there is a tie, the team with the worse record wins. The winning bid is spread proportionally across the remainder of contract. The amnestied player cannot be traded for one year, only waived.

  Good role player, but I wouldn’t chase him with MLE or mini MLE. Bigger fish with more upside are still swimming in the pond.

    I was thinking of offering him Brian Cook money. He is someone I have always been high on because he is long and very athletic and is a solid defender. When Rudy Gay went down the year Memphis took OKC to the limit in the 2nd round of the 2011 playoffs, Young filled in admirably.

Technically we could resign Kenyon and Foye and ship them to someone in a sign and trade right? So realistically we could sign them to contracts equaling a large salary and then ship them off right?

The follow up to that is, can we possibly package some of these guys as S&T bait with 1 year deals and offer them to teams looking for cap or to move a Joe Johnson type contract off their books?

I ask this in regards to some of the RFA’s on the market. If we can sign and trade some of our expired players with cap holds, we could foreseeable trade into a max level player for a team looking for cap next summer, right?

Reggie Evans was better than DeAndre Jordan, much better actually.

The two were about the same on offense, but Reggie Evans is the far better rebounder and is also a better overall defender.

The Clippers would have been better off starting Evans over Jordan.

Really, they should start Odom at center and they should have then brought Evans in off the bench to back him up. And they should have gotten rid of DeAndre Jordan for anything they could have gotten.

Reggie Evans and Kenyon Martin are gone and in their place is Lamar Odom. Odom, if he can return to expected form, is far better offensively than either Evans or Martin, but those two were very effective on the court in other ways. Mo Williams is also gone and he use to really light it up coming off the bench. So all in all, the Clippers lost Willliams, Martin and Evans and they gained Odom.

The only way that’s going to be a plus is if they start Odom in place of Jordan. If Odom only plays the Martin/Evans role, I don’t see how they’re any better than last year.

That’s the kind of self-deluding pipedreaming that will make your head spin around and fall off and crack in two.

After five years in the NBA, Jordan has not improved at all. In the 7 game playoff series against Memphis (the biggest seven games of his 5 year career) he had three games in which he didn’t score a single field goal and scored a combined one point for the three games on a single free throw, and in that game where he scored one pont he also had *zero* rebounds.

On the flips side, while he was doing nothing on offense or on the boards, the Memphis front line was torching him so bad that the fans were calling him smokey.

It was probably the worst performance by any player in the playoffs.

That was the culmination of his five years of imroving in the NBA.

So after those five years of essentially no improvement, people think he’s suddenlly going to improve for next season.

  You know what he has right now something that he has never had? CP3 in a full off-season to push him to develop a post game and to improve as a player. CP3 is someone with pull who could hook him up with players or personnel to help him improve. I ask again. How long did it take Andrew Bynum to get to where he as at last season???

    Bynum and DeAndre are less than a year apart in age. Plus Bynum missed all the time being injured. I really hope DeAndre can improve this season, but don’t see it.

      Bynum was picked #10 in the same draft as CP3. That shows how long he has been in th league. Bynum also benefited from playing under arguably the greatest coach ever and having a coaching staff that was much more attentive to his development since he was a lottery pick. When DJ was drafted he was drafted as a second round flier who was extremely raw and just had athleticism. He played behind Kaman, and it wasn’t until 2 years ago he showed potential to be a starter. He is never going to be Bynum. And it is not fair to hope for him to turn into Camby or Chandler even as they were lottery picks. If DJ can develop into a serviceable defensive center who can shot block and rebound than we will get what we need from him. I’m fired of hearig all the complaints abou him, yes we overpaid for him. But we needed a center and he showed promise of being the defensive anchor for our team, and he still can be. He is only in the first year of his contract. He needs to become more disciplined, stronger, and get better at boxing out. These are all things that can develop from experience and hard work, which by all accounts he is a hard worker. So for me the jury isn’t out on DJ yet. We have him under contract for 3 more years, so I’m interested to see how he develops. But he is NOT solely to blame for the Clippers losig in the playoffs, there are multiple things you can blame for that. He will get better nex year, not by leaps and bounds, but he will improve.

reggie evans had his moments of great play on defensive end and rebounding but there is a reason why teams keep letting him go his offense is non existing and he is undersize center will get crushed by bigger big men who can shoot luv his energy tho – i think the clippers could use a 7 footer as back up
