Apologies for the YouTube fail. Feel free to skip the dead air from 5:33 to 8:13.
Here is the video that didn’t show in the Hangout:
Hassan Whiteside just got release by the Kings. Possible pick up for the Clippers? He’s a young shot blocker with length who never really got a shot due to injury and Sac’s depth at C.
Oh yeah, and he has a decent shot and hook.
I’d rather have Darko over Whiteside.
I’d rather have Whiteside and beef him up.
Andre Blatche might be amnestied. Thoughts on him as a backup 4/5 that can hit a shot?
I am ok with Blatche if Billups and CP3 can do to him what they did to Nick Young and made him into a more mature player. Blatche’s immaturity was what made him a knucklehead with the Wizards.
Probably the most talented of all the bigs mentioned is Blatche. Just gotta deal with his other baggage.
No way in Hell. There was a reason the Wizard waived Blatche. Here’s part of the article from nba.com:
“Blatche was shot during a carjacking attempt in September 2005, was arrested in 2007 for soliciting sex from an undercover police officer and suspended for a game in December 2010 for brawling with teammate JaVale McGee outside a Washington nightclub.
He also clashed with coaches. In January 2010, then-coach Flip Saunders suspended him for a game after he was belligerent with the coaching staff.
At last season’s home opener, Blatche addressed the crowd by saying: “This is your captain, Andray Blatche,” and after the game complained there weren’t enough plays being run for him.
In 2011-12, he played in just 26 games, averaging 8.5 points. Wizards coach Randy Wittman banished him from the team in March to work on his conditioning. Earlier in the season, Blatche missed time with a calf injury.”
You want to have a player like this on the Clippers? I sure don’t.
I don’t care about his off-court stuff. Flip Saunders has a history of pissing off players.
CP3/Billups changed Nick Young, they could do the same again.
Looks like he’s a talented player with emotional issues. I think we can handle him. Make Lamar Odom his mentor.
I think Darko would be a credible move, but Blatche is the shark-move here. The kid has crazy upside, and could easily be starting for us if DeAndre never develops. The downside is a pretty good athletic bench guy for CHEAP and on a short-term deal. While I don’t excuse his previous antics, it’s still a low-risk high-reward gamble that could really pay off. A team with Paul/ Hill/ Billups could keep this guy in line, which were elements that never existed in Washington.
honestly i wouldn’t mind blatche on the team.. but not as the 4th big.. and definitely not to play any center.. If DJ was a stronger player, I’d be more willing.. But we need at least one more big body who can guard the big boys in the league. Blatche can’t.
I hear Oden is on the market for a team. Clippers may be a good destination for him but not sure if he’d take the minimum deal.
I think the Clippers should try him. If on the very slim chance that he’s healthy, he’s way better than any free agent out there.
With an opportunity to make an impact at his spot, he is like a couple of the guys we’ve picked up this offseason. Someone who has something to prove and if he’s truly healthy can be a big steal and dare I say a possible starter….
Oden said he’s taking the year off, but will try to make an NBA comeback next season. Would definitely give him a try next season.. (I’m sure a lot of teams would)
How about we sign Birdman? He just got amnestied by the Nuggets he would fit in perfectly. He would also bring more spotlight to Lob City as well.
He’s basically just like deAndre Jordan.
No to Birdman. He’s a shell of his former self and he might be a child molester too. We don’t need that type of publicity.
do you really want this guy on your team, forget that he is a rather unproductive player, but just look at him. DO YOU REALLY WANT THIS GUY ON YOUR TEAM
Clippers need to add another big to the roster.
Who would you guys look to add and why? Who do you think the Clippers will end up signing?
What is your guys favorite and least favorite move the Clippers made this off season?
Favorite move has been getting Odom. Least favorite move has been Jamal Crawford and for his contract. If we signed Crawford to a two year deal, I would have been okay with it but the length is killer. Courtney Lee is leaning towards the Celtics but Lee was available and we could have pushed harder for him. He’s a better defender than Crawford and a more efficient shooter. That and he’s also younger with NBA Finals experience.
If I were to add bigs, I’d go after Darko first and then look at Andray Blatche if we can’t get Darko. Blatche is the most talented big available but is the most immature. I am all for getting Blatche if CP3 and Billups can yell at Blatche to grow up and mature like what happened with Nick Young last season. I am also not opposed to getting Nazr Mohammed because he has a ring with San Antonio and can help mentor DJ as a third string center.
J.Crawford is an attractive trade asset. No need to regret now.
Nobody wants to trade for Crawford right now and we can’t trade him right now after we just signed him. Crawford is untradeable for the next 3 years.
Who is going to replace Dean Demopoulos?
I’ve been asking about this for weeks and No one knows. I think its a big deal too considering VDN definetely has no idea about defense(no offense to all the Vinnie fans)
Why don’t we pull someone from either Boston or Chicago or even Miami to be an assistant here to coach defense?
i think the clippers should sign Nazr Mohammed for the back up center position.
I am not opposed to signing Mohammed, but Darko has a better offensive game than Mohammed does.
Backing up DeAndre? or Dwight Howard? or Ben Wallace?
By the way, we can still trade DeAndre and Jamal to PISTONS for Wallace and PRINCE.
IT APPEARS Clippers are going to land DWIGHT. And they can do this by not asking him to sign with the team long term.
PURPOSE: WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT SEASON. And Dwight knows that’s possible with Clips.
CP3, Billups and Hill are going to convince him to accept the deal which will send DeAndre, Butler ot Crawford PLUS future draft picks.
Orlando will be happy to receive DeAndre + a veteran player plus promising first round draft picks.
This deal can be executed without any glitch.
it “appears”…link please?
It ‘appeared’ in my imagination.
This isn’t our grandpa’s(Elgin Baylor) Clippers anymore. We can now think BIG and dream BIGGER things for our team.
im hearing it’s cavs/lakers with Orlando. Bynum to cle, Howard to la, varejao and a bunch of picks to orl
assuming Dah-Wight re-ups long term with the Lakers, which has been the sticking the point all along.
please never post again
I think Clipped is DeMote in disguise. He’s delusional and pipedreaming.
OK. I’ll change my screen name.
I can’t imagine Orlando taking that offer over the other better offers.
Clippers Blake Griffin, CP3 and the rest are better than Kobe, a washed up Pau and an old Nash. If I was Howard, I’d rather go to the Clippers, but Orlando is getting nothing.
Just one question:
When do we kidnap Orlando’s owner and use him as a hostage for this deal to go through?
No team can offer better option at this stage. But adding DeAndre with Crawford(3yr deal) and few first round draft pick, iwould make Orlando a better team. But we cannot accept JRich & Torkuglu contracts.
I think that’s what Orlando wants to do. They don’t care about what they get but they care about getting rid of those redundant and useless contracts.
You are an idiot. We can’t trade Crawford and we can’t trade DeAndre until December. I am sick of morons like you!
I think you can trade DeAndre if he agrees to it right? I don’t think he likes VDN much.
I don’t care if FD, Clipped and demote are all the same poster, if the Lakes get Howard, I will be the sickest man in America!!! Lets hope Stern steps in again, that would be huge!
The ironic thing is that if this happened, Dan Gilbert would be a huge hypocrite for facilitating D12 going to the Lakers and complaining about CP3 getting trading to the Lakers.
To get Rome is not easy, we will enjoy more beating them with Howard, Nashviille and KB.
What? I’m saying the Clippers have no chance of getting Howard. I’m in the Greg Oden, Darko group
FD and DeMote are fine people. Please don’t tarnish their reputation by tagging my bad name to theirs.
hilton armstrong with be a very good bench big…he is actually more talented than darko but not as much as blatche…blatche on the super cheap would be an asset.
read today that Austin Daye is the odd man out in Det…i am still on my campaign to use the AFA TPE on him…he is going to be a stud if ever given the chance. we don’t have a designated three point shooter and he can do that with the best in the business. they have 7 SF’s in det and Daye can realistically play 3 positions and with different constructs of our line up. Is MILES better than Trey Thompkins.
for those not familiar…please watch this video from THIS years summer league…the kid dominated from the outside in. and handles the ball like a guard. Det media believes he is being auditioned for a move…and the Clips should oblige them. SF of the future.
Can Blatche play center? Lastley…this clipper moves this year have put a smile on this one 20 year fans face.
The Clippers have 10-11 players under contract and are looking for 14 with one open roster spot.
Butler/Daye/Hill (no that is not a typo)
makes a world of sense to me…that second unit is almose playoff worthy lol. I put Hill as the 3rd sf only because i think he will see time at all wing positions.
Ive loved watching Austin Daye. 2 seasons ago a lot of people had him pegged to break out but it never really happened.
He’s really long and has pretty good shooting from range. From Irvine too, so the kid is homegrown. Definitely cannot play 5 though.
no he can’t but he can play 2, 3, 4 he has a nice handle, good vision, blocks shots and rebounds well for the position.
he woulda broken out if Detroit had any idea what it is doing. 7 sf’s REALLY? lol…
did you peep that video from this years orlando summer league?
Great post J7 I’ve mentioned Austin Daye countless times over the last week or so as our back up SF Detroit has like 7 SF’s so he would be available for cheap and I also read he will be the 1st to go so why not S&T Foye for him it wouldn’t cost us anything. Also I would much rather have Hilton Armstrong then Ryan Hollins for one I would imagine he would be cheaper (Vet. min.) two he does the exact same things on the court and has 3 years experience of playing with CP3.
agreed…hilton is good when he is engaged…as a back up his job is clear. He has a famiarity with CP and is still relatively young. We can get Daye cheaper than using foye as he fits perfectly into our TPE from Aminu. without using ALL of our cap space.
I like Jon Lueur who is Ridiculously cheap and would be an effective big.
wow…I shoulda used spell check. lol.
does anyone like John Leur? he would be a cheap back up, young, with ability.
yeah he can play
People keep naming all these centers that are other teams rejects, but they’re all better than DeAndre.
The Bucks actually wanted to keep Lueur he played well for them when he started at the 5…he was traded to make the salaries match…He is a stretch 5 with some athleticism and back to basket game. he and Hilton would be a good cheap tandem behind DJ.
im waiting for someone to blast me out for wanting to trade for austin daye so badly. lol
Even Corey Maggette can be a better center.
So, lets recap. We achieve success starting with the greatest trade in Clippers history in getting arguably the greatest point guard to ever wear a Clipper uniform, and pair him with potentially the greatest power forward in clippers history. The Clippers then go on to have the highest winning percentage in team history, albeit a 2nd place effort. And they follow that up with the greatest off-season, where the Clippers seemingly made all the right moves, where they appear to have a plan (win now) and executed that plan. I looked back at some of the free agent signings from the past, and after like 2 seconds, it was clear that this year was a bumper crop of FA signings for the Clippers. This off-season was make or break, and they did make, and then some. So but if the yellow and blue get Howard, where does that leave us? Yeah we have a nice bench, and they don’t, is that enough to get us the Division?
Maybe if Olshey didn’t give away our first round draft pick from last year, this year and the minn pick, the Clippers could trade for Howard.
Yea, Olshey was such an idiot to trade for Chris Paul, what was he thinking?
As an aside, the Clippers 1st rounders are not very valuable because we are good! Guys picked in the mid 20s rarely become valuable commodities.
The Houston alone deal doesn’t look like it includes a center back to Orlando. What about the Clippers sending DJ to Houston in a 3-team trade to get it done?
What would we get back from Houston or Orlando if we facilitate this trade?
That makes sense. Orlando / Houston might prefer DeAndre. He’s young and likable.
If we’re still the same old Clippa’s, DeAndre makes sense. But we aren’t that team anymore.
Sorry, I meant to get Dwight to the Clippers.
From the news, it sounded like Houston was willing to help the Lakers get Dwight or be the destination themselves. Why not help the Clippers? Deandre is from Houston so he’d be happy there. The Houston alone offer that Orlando is considering is Kevin Martin, draft picks, and filler for Dwight and the Clippers have a lot of other depth now to add to the deal if necessary.
Back to one of the truly important issues for the Clippers . . .
The Clippers should be very worried about Chris Paul leaving and signing somewhere else, especially with the Knicks.
Everybody knows he wanted to go play for the Knicks a year ago. Don’t forget his famous toast at Carmelo Anthony’s wedding, and don’t forget that Tyson Chandler, his favorite center he’s ever been on the same team with, is now on the Knicks too. Compare theat to having to play with DeAndre Jordan and you’ll get a clearer idea why Paul would want to leave the Clippers and go to the Knicks.
The Clippers holding his Bird rights isn’t near enough to keep him with them. He’ll get the fifth year eventually anyway, especially at his age, so the only thing there is the 7% raise, but that’s a very minor thing in the computation of what these big stars make. They make as much or more in endorsements as they do in salary anyway.
Just stop. Please.
The Knicks don’t have any cap room, nor tradeable assets to facilitate a trade.
Paul and the other big stars are out to build legacy’s of greatness and images of super heroes, and the Knicks are an excellent place for Paul to do that.
The notion he won’t leave because he bought a house here is nonsense. Kevin Garnet has had a house here for years and he’s never considered playing here. Same with Barry Bonds in MLB. There likely are numerous athletes who have houses here who don’t play here.
It’s also pipedreaming to think that Knicks can’t sign Paul because they don’t ahve cap space. There are plenty of ways they dould clear cap space.
For example, the could trade Amare Stoudemire for a 2nd round pick to some team that has lots of cap space and is not in a glamor city and has a bad team and has no chance of a big name player ever going to play for them williingly. Getting Stoudemire would be a big thing for such a team, and there are likely several teams who would do that. Houston comes to mind. They could re-team Stoudamire with Lin. Maybe they coudl even get Mike D’Antoni to coach them.
That’s just one example of hoe the Knicks could easily clear cap space for the bigt star that has long said he wanted to play for them.
ya the knicks would give away Amare for a 2nd round pick- aka garbage
The Clippers need to get rid of DeAndre Jordan, and they need to get Dwight Howard. That will keep Paul here. Otherwise, he probably goes.
As for all of the signings the Clippers have been making . . .
They’re all right, but with the exception of the Odom signing, they’re nothing particulary good.
Keep in mind the Clippers have given up Mo Williams, Kenyon Martin, Reggie Evans and Randy Foye. All four of those players had some big moments for the Clippers last season. Except for Odom, I don’t see how the new signings are an improvement over the players the Clippers lost.
And the Odom signing is only a good thing if he starts at center in place of DeAndre DeGiant DeSaster.
The Clippers really didn’t give up Martin and Evans, they left mostly because of lack of playing time.
technically we can still s&t foye and Martin for other players
If darko doesn’t work out, Armstrong looks pretty good in the summer league (posting a 20.00 efficiency rating and a good defender/shot blocker). But with that said, there are some other, more proven options, but lets not count Armstrong out, he looks like he could be a solid bench player
You guys mentioned thin at the 3 we should really consider signing morrison he is an sf and he had 20 plus points in the summer league game today. he could come off the bench when hill is injured. and he can knock down that open 3
No to Morrison.
I say if he shows promise then sign him to a very very small, minute contract. After all he was a lottery pick, he should have some small amount of potential.
im not saying to start he might even get some play time but he could be a decent back up to a back up. name another wing you could get less then 1 mil. after all we would sign him cheap. You obviously didnt see him out perform the entire spurs team today
Why the hell are people even contemplating Morrison when you have Terrico White? I can’t believe Morrison got the start over White. White shot 5-7 and hit his only 3. White’s 3 inches shorter, but has wingspan and athleticism. Why would you want the awkward porn star who can’t do anything but shoot over the younger more athletic player?
Charlie, you said the Clips need a wing that can shoot and said that T.White shot well in summer league but doesn’t fit into the Clippers roster. WHAT?!?!
Andrew, how could you not mention Whiteside with all the talk of a big that can walk and chew gum that’s young with some upside?
Gah. I knew I missed a couple.
What I was saying is that I’m not sold on the caliber of the wings on the roster — specifically in terms of length and shooting ability. If White is the 40% 3-point shooter that he was in the D-League last year, then I’m all for giving him a shot, but he was 34% in two years of college and at 6’5″, he doesn’t have prototypical length to play the 3, which is the type of player I’m talking about.
Wait, so you like 6’5″ Courtney Lee with a 6’9″ wingspan, but don’t like 6’5″ Terrico White with a 6’9″ wingspan? White also has 15 lbs of more muscle.
I thought that Jamal Crawford’s last two years were only partially guaranteed… And could anyone explain to me the cap hit if a player with a partially guaranteed were to be released?
Jamal Crawford’s contract is partially guaranteed in years 3 and 4 for $1.5m/year. This means if the Clippers decide to waive/cut Crawford in the offseason after year 2, they will pay him the guaranteed amount and that same $1.5m will replace Crawford’s full salary on the payroll.
The more likely situation is that the Clippers seek out a trade partner rather than simply waive Crawford in his partially guaranteed years. Another team looking to shed salary could trade for Crawford’s contract and use it for cap savings.
Been following the show for a while, and you guys always do a great job. Keep it up.
