Maybe it was the compressed season, but here’s something I completely missed during last season’s All-Star weekend. Thankfully, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin never miss an opportunity to have some laughs.

BG: “White sheet over your head..”
CP: “That’s a [incredulous sound]… that’s the wrong thing to say.”

CP: “DJ looks like a giraffe so he would live at the…”

CP: “Big whales live in this thing.”

Would it be possible for the Clippers to do a sign and trade with Phliy for Bynum during the season? What are the rules on when he could be traded? Bynum might sign an extension with the Clippers. DeAndre and Butler for Bynum. Especially if Bynum has a bad attitude after being traded to Phily.

  Technically, yes. DeAndre can’t be traded without his consent until Dec 12. Bynum can be traded at any time but Philly would have to wait if he were to be packaged with other players (I believe it’s 30 days). But early indication seem to suggest Bynum will like it in Philly: it’s near where he grew up (New Jersey) and he gets to be the number 1 option on a team.
  
  Bynum will not sign an extension with anyone because of financial ramifications. Just like Chris Paul, Bynum can make more money becoming a free agent and re-signing with the same team.

That would be the equivalent of Philly trading Iguodala, Vucevic, Harkless and a future first rounder (yes that’s a 2011 and 2012 first round pick along with an all star) for Caron Butler and Deandre Jordan. DO YOU REALIZE THAT SOUNDS ASCININE?

I can’t believe there hasn’t been a post about Howard going to the Lakers. I don’t know about you, but I feel pretty frustrated. AS I said before, I’m a NYC Clipper fan. (Long story). I watched the Mets get as good as they could in 2000 – reaching the World Series. Only to play…the Yankees who then went on to win the Series decidedly. For all the good the Clippers have done this off season (and I agree with most of it) – and that the fact remains – this Clipper team is STILL (on paper) a TOP 4 team in the WEST… I can’t help but think/admit the Lakers are now decidedly better. The gap between Howard and DeAndre is like the gap between the Earth and the moon. The timing of this for Clipper fans sucks. Sure, this team should be a 50-52 win squad but where I can see us battling OKC and even SAS – I just don’t see the Clips beating the Lakers in a series. Talk me off the ledge. But seriously, this is not good.

  i don’t know the exact number of the salary cap but last yr it was around 58 million. Do you know what the Lakers are paying this yr, 97 million. And the CBA is gonna get tighter in the next few yrs, so even when kobe and nash are gone (about 40 million right there) they will still be over the cap limit and i think unable to sign other players for above the cap limit. And they have no draft picks for 6 yrs. Pau’s contract is up and so is kobe’s (who will probably retire) in 2 yrs, and Nash is done and probably will retire in 3 yrs. Lets assume they they have the same basic team in 3 yrs with howard and pau resigned (but no kobe and nash). It still doesn’t free them up to make many big signings, so while they r a top NBA team for 3 yrs, they will most likely be in a bit of a rut after that

  I agree with you. The Lakers are going to be really good this year and if Dwight re-ups then they will be a scary team the next few years until Kobe’s and Pau’s contracts are off the books. They are my pick to win the championship this year. But the Lakers will suck once Kobe’s and Pau’s contracts are done. It’s sickening how this got through though when I thought the Brooklyn deal for Dwight was much better than what the Lakers gave and in the end, the Magic did not get either Bynum or Pau which is surprising. If CP3 re-ups next summer, the Clippers will have a chance to compete for the next few years and the chance to win a championship will be more realized once Kobe either declines in his game or his contract is up.
  
  The balance of power in the NBA has shifted back to the western conference and the west just got that much more competitive.

That isn 100% incorrect. you ahve been ttrying to pass-off this foolish inaccuracy for months, but it is totally incorrect. I have on numerous times pointed this out to you and have given you clear evidence of what is true.

You always then ignore it and then later come back and start making it again.

I have never before seen anybody who clings so strongly to such an obviously incorrect statement.

  2. Where is your source to say that is incorrect? My citation is Larry Coon via CBAFAQ and Eric Pincus at Hoopsworld. As I recall, your source is a misreported blurb in a Weekend Dime by Marc Stein back in Feb. Of course, right before that you said Marc Stein commonly gets things wrong. And then you went on to say Larry Coon often gets things wrong. Who does Stein refer to for cap questions? Larry Coon. But the only instance that Stein writes something to your liking, he’s suddenly right? How convenient.
  
  3. The burden of proof is on you – not me. If you want to say something that I’m passing along from multiple other outlets is false, then you need to show documentation from multiple other established sources that it is incorrect. I’ve been wrong before. I’m sure I’ll be wrong in the future. So prove it. I don’t mind being wrong.
  
  Also, YOU do not qualify as a source, just like I don’t cite myself as a source.

This is what the CBA says on the subject. It’s exactly the wording I have posted here on the subject numerous other occasions.
“A free agent who signs a contract cannot be traded for three months following the date the contract is signed or until December 15, whichever is later.”

I suggest you google CBA 101-NBA.com.
Scroll down to section G “Additional Trade Rules”.
Then go dowen to sub section (4) “Waiting Period for New Contracts”
Then read under that in (a), where it says this: “A free agent who signs a contract cannot be traded for three months following the date the contract is signed or
until December 15, whichever is later.”

DeAndre Jordan’s contract was signed December 12, 2011. Three months after that was March 12, 2012. That’s the date after which Jordan could be traded. Pure and simple.

Everything else you have been saying on this subject, often making obscure references to confused and inaccurate things some ESPN writers have said, are inaccurate and misleading. They are nonsense and it’s further foolish nonsense for you to continue making that ridiculous statement that Jordan can’t be traded without his permission until December 12 of 2012 when it clearly is false.

  I also want to point out that CBA 101 that the NBA puts out is not actually the CBA. The CBA is hundreds of pages long and is not easily accessible to the public. The CBA 101 is a simple pdf put together as part of an electronic press kit.

Possibly you are confused by the phrase. ” . . . cannot be traded for three months following the date the contract is signed or until December 15, ***whichever is later***.”

To try and clear that up, I will point out that three months after Jordan signed his contract on December 12, 2011 is March 12, 2012. March 12, 2012 *is later* than December 15, 2011 (which is the December 15 referenced in the CBA). That’s why he couldn’t be traded until March 12, 2012.

Even Marc Stein wrote in one of his columns around the trade deadline tht Jordan could be traded after March 12.

I clearly pointed this out to you and others here with several posts I made at that time.

There is no basis what so ever in you continued assertion that Jordan cannot be traded without his permission until December 15. None.

Andrew already told you to look at the difference between a Unrestricted Free Agent and a Restricted Free Agent. Unrestricted Free Agents who sign cannot be traded until three months after they have signed. Restricted Free Agents cannot be traded for a year after they signed. Plus, The CBA you looked at again is the one that expired in 2011 and not the new one. Step your game up DeMote, you’re making yourself look bad here. Certain players have no-trade clauses in their contracts: Kobe, D12 and others. We do not know what is in the content of their contracts. If DJ has a no-trade clause, then he cannot be traded without his consent. It’s obvious.

    Well, let’s not go overboard here. Only Restricted Free Agents who have had their offers matched cannot be traded without their consent for 1 year.
    
    Also, DJ definitely does not have a no-trade clause. Those are exceptionally difficult to attain (there are a lot of obstacles in the CBA). I believe Kobe is the only player in the league with a legitimate no-trade clause in his contract (possibly KG now, I’m not sure). There are several implicit no-trade clauses, though. For example, Chauncey Billups has one now. This is a result of a combination of rules in the CBA.
    
    In Billups’ case, it is when a team has full Bird Rights on a player and that player only signs a 1 year contract (another example of this is Nick Young last year). A player must consent to giving up his Bird Rights to be traded when only on a 1 year deal. Thus, the player is using his Bird Rights effectively as a no-trade clause. A player who has had his offer sheet matched is another example of the rules providing an implicit no-trade clause (for one year). See what I did? Full circle.

This is all a bunch of foolish nonsense put out in an effort to cover yourself for continually making the incorrect assertion that Jordan cannot be traded until December 15. You cite Eric Pincus but he clearly is as confused as you are about what the CBA says.

A free agent is a free agent, retricted or unrestricted.

Clearly you and Pincus and Coons are all confused by the clear wording:

The key is ***whichever is later***.”

That is also the same wording that is in the wikipedia entry on the new CBA.

It’s the way it is. Clearly you do not know what you are talking about so you desperately point to confused citations of other people who clearly do not know what they’re talking about either.

Even Marc Stein clearly said earlier that Jordan could be traded starting March 12 of 2012.

There is nothing else to say on the subject. The truth is very clear.

Don’t you ever wonder why there’s never been any mention in the LA Media that Jordan couldn’t be traded until December? The simple explanation for that is that he can be traded.

  There isn’t a mention in the LA Media market as to why DJ can’t be traded because 1. the LA Media market is Lakers biased and 2. No one cares.

  Want to know what’s hilarious about all of this? There is a miniscule chance that DJ gets traded before mid-December (if at all) so this argument is completely moot. But hey, I’m just going to go back to tricking people with my foolish nonsense and being delusional. At least I had the courtesy to USE THE REPLY BUTTON.
