Not to take away from some forthcoming analysis regarding the recent Dwight Howard/Lakers trade and its implications for the Clippers, but this quote by Chris Paul is priceless:

“It’s great for L.A. Getting Steve Nash was great; Dwight just makes it a bigger scene, more exciting,” Paul says. “But like I said, it sounds good and well, but you’ve got to play the game … and I cannot wait to play the game with my improved team. I. Can. Not. Wait.“

The Clippers’ first chance will be at the Lakers in the second game of the season, Friday, Nov 02 at 7:30p PT.

Well Bynum was upset that he wasn’t getting as many plays called for him. I don’t think Howard is going to get anymore than Bynum. It’s for sure a trade the Lakers have to make, but we’ll see what happens. Maybe Bynum actually fits better. Nash is probably going to be the biggest change for the Lakers.

CP3 is right and he picked his team with the Clippers.

  It’s not so much that Bynum wasn’t getting plays called for him. The lockout season gave Bynum a career year. That was at the expense of having to learn a new system with Mike Brown. If Bynum wanted to, he easily has the talent to average Dwight’s numbers (maybe a little higher in points because he is a much better freethrow shooter). But the fact that Bynum shows up one game and then doesn’t the next is mind-boggling. He’s like a bigger version of Baron Davis. Laker fans are very fairweather. Baron had his best years in GSW because Bay Area fans are very rabid and passionate. Maybe Bynum needs a fan base that is very passionate (not sure if Philly fans are like that) to get him get his head screwed on straight.
  
  I am happy that CP3 is endorsing this team and ready to do battle against the Lakers and the rest of the NBA as a Clipper.

  Bynum is better than Howard on offense, so it doesn’t matter that D12′s number won’t be called on offense. It’s D12′s defense and rebounding that the Lakers want. They have no need for him on offense with Nash, Kobe, and Gasol. Of course he’ll get the occasional alley-oop, but he’ll be a 2nd option at best if 2 of the other 3 are sitting or hurt.

As for DeAndre needing permission to be traded. I’ve read the same thing, but I don’t see why he wouldn’t give his permission. 1st he’d get more money and 2nd he needs to put up stats for his next contract. He’s probably not a fan of VDN giving him limited minutes and leaving him out of the 4th quarter. If he continues to play on 20 min a game, he’s not going to get another big contract. 40-60 mil contract is more important than winning.

  DJ is young. Usually young players need to eat (get paid) and care more about making money compared to winning because of a certain lifestyle they want to have. I can’t blame them. Nobody here except for DeMote is a fan of VDN because VDN does not know how to properly manage his talent and the minutes they need to have. Given that, VDN knows he’s in a lame duck situation he needs to coach his butt off this year to keep his job. VDN has never had a team this talented in his life so if he screws up, he’s never getting another NBA job ever again.

    You could actually say, “This is Vinny Del Negro’s last chance.” He will be forced to become a great coach, if he knows what’s good for him. Erik Spoelstra had a longer window because he was tutored by the best in Pat Riley. Del Negro is not a protege, for he has no teacher to lean on. He’s learning everything on the fly, and he knows he’s being judged around the clock. If there’s any coach in the NBA right now who will be faced with the most pressure, and with his own job on the line, it’s Vinny.

      On the last Clipperblog podcast, Kevin and Charlie Widdoes I believe talked about the Clippers’ offseason. They pretty much saw the glass as being half empty- Jamal sucks, Billups and Hill are old, Odom is a question mark blah blah.
      
      Kevin spent a chunk of minutes pondering that is the Clippers underachieve, CP will look to get out and that Cuban is a legit threat to convince Chris simply because the Mavs are a better organization. Not happening. Chris ain’t leaving LA and Blake to live in Dallas with over the hill Dirk.

  Chris Paul saved us. First he made those two shots to get us a solid lead. And then after throwing some great passes all quarter to the open shooter, though most shots didn’t fall (anthony and kobe couldn’t hit a shot to save their life in the 4th), he’s just like screw it and runs through Spains entire defense for the game sealing layup. We would have lost that game if Chris Paul didn’t carry that team for that 4th quarter.
  
  Chris Paul will be even better this season. Last season all the lock out discussion caused CP3 to be not in the best shape for the beginning of the season. I think its realistic to expect Chris Paul to have more a better season then last season as he’s looking awesome. Clippers play well, maybe a better or similar record then OKC and the lakers, I think he will be the easy choice for mvp.

I cringe at the thought of DeAndre playing against Howard. In the past, that matchup has been DEATH. I sure hope Lamar can somehow teach Jordan a thing or two about defense. He has made some strides as a shotblocker but his one on one defense against legit post players with size is much, much worse than you would think for a guy with his tools. MUCH worse.

I have seen him defend the post pretty well against guys that want to finess and are not real quick because his size bothers them and he has gotten better at staying down and timing his jumps. But he needs to get much tougher and more sound against REAL big man post threats.

  He plays better against dwight howard then Bynum. I don’t think it makes much of a difference. Dwight is much better at defense but Deandre isn’t a center who makes his own shots so it really won’t hurt or help deandres offensive ability. And I think DeAndre could be able to play good enough defense to have dwight not just walk through him.
  
  What I’m worried about is that deandres lack of offense makes it easy for dwight to guard griffin and have gasol, who griffin routinely makes a fool of, on deandre. I could see dwights superior size and his athleticism(that bynum didn’t have) would really just completely stop griffin on the offensive end.

  actually id rather have him go against howard, howard is more of an inside man and DJ can match his length. and Bynum is a bit better on offense in general (similar pts despite howard being the star and bynum having to share with kobe)

I don’t think the Bynum for Howard swap makes the Lakers better. Bynum is way better offensively & is better defensively when he wants to be. Howard may block more shots but Bynum affects more shots with his uncanny length. The Lakers length was their biggest strength & now that length is gone. I don’t think we need to panic as our team legit & will beat the Lakers. All this talk the Lakers are going to win the championship is BS. OKC is still the team to beat in the west. Still can’t believe Orlando went thru with this trade, someone please tell me what Houston was doing

Why does Blake Griffin get spared for his lazy defense. The dude just loafs on that side of the floor. What makes mattes worse is that not only is the T-Rex armed Griffin a defensive Sieve, he also can’t make free throws and his jumper is clunky…

As great as it sounds, it’s the NBA. It’s over guys. The Lakers are a lock for the finals for the next 2-3 years and after that, they’ll bring someone else in and extend it again and again and again.

      Howard will resign there but the lakers have about 100 million dollars worth of contracts this season. With luxury taxes and such increasing steadily that laker team will not be able to improve through free agent signings/sign anyone. And all there draft picks are basically gone so they won’t improve that way either. Also Nash, Kobe, and even Gasol aren’t getting younger. If the Lakers don’t win this year they aren’t going to get better. They will progressively get worst year after year. On the other hand, the clippers will progressively get better with the improvements of blake griffin and the financial flexibility the clippers have.

  I seem to remember a Detroit team that was never going to beat the Lakers in the finals. I remember a San Antonio team that was never going to beat the Lakers after their three-peat.

if lakers don’t increase there speed they will not be champions and if the clippers don’t increase there speed they will not be champions either, it all comes down 2 who as the most stength and speed in the lineup plus smartness

  For the Lakers, their collective basketball IQ is greater than that of the Clippers. It all boils down to execution. The Lakers have the best frontline in basketball with D12 and Pau. That is a daunting task to take down for every team in the NBA. The Clippers need to outrun and outgun the Lakers and VDN needs to step up his coaching game.

again having speed in ur lineup will help tremendously teams always hv 2 account 4 that it is another weapon playin smart and coaching excellence is also a great weapon 2 have i think in order 4 clippers 2 win the western conference finals they will need a combination of excellent play from guards both offensive & defensive better play from center position defensive rebound & toughness better play from small forward position especially caron butler but if not working change lineup go with better speed trust me that is what it takes plus a superstar year from blake the best player on this team because of his talent capabilities is off the chain cp3 will give the same
