If Chris Paul is trying to endear himself to Clippers fans, he’s doing a damned fine job of it. Things can change over the course of a season, but it’s kind of hard to imagine CP3 integrating Los Angeles into his shoe design if he intends on leaving:
Many of those details came into place after the science and testing of the shoe was completed. On the tip of one set of shoelaces is the number 310, the Los Angeles area code. On the other is 336, the area code in his hometown of Winston-Salem.
The midfoot shank on the sole provides torsional rigidity and enhanced support but is also a shout-out to the two most important places in Paul’s life. On the right shoe the shank is embedded with a map of the downtown LA area surrounding Staples Center. The left has a map of the area surrounding his alma mater, West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, N.C., a small suburb of Winston-Salem.
“It’s one foot in the past and one in the future,” Luedecke said.
After the trade to Los Angeles last season, Chris Paul did a media event for his then new shoe, the Jordan CP3.V. When talking about the personal elements of the shoe and mentioning 336 as the area code where he grew up in North Carolina, someone asked if Paul would implement Los Angeles touches in the future. Paul hinted he may add the Los Angeles 310 area code. So it’s nice to see nothing has changed his opinion between then and now.
