There’s that depth we’ve been talking about!
By at least one measure, the Clippers’ team building efforts this summer have been validated by the collective wisdom ESPN’s 104-person panel of #NBArank “experts.” They/we came up with six (6!) current Clippers between spots 110 and 130.
It’s not really a statistic, and there’s certainly nothing advanced about it — they did invite a handful of us ClipperBloggers to participate, after all — but by the very rough math of 30 (teams) times five (starters per team), that means the Clippers have six players under contract that could be considered starter-caliber. And that’s before we find out where the members of their “Big 3″ — Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan — fall on the list.
The six are: Chauncey Billups (110), Jamal Crawford (111), Grant Hill (114), Eric Bledsoe (122), Caron Butler (126) and Lamar Odom (130).
Such close proximity between these guys in the rankings could be mostly coincidental — especially with a rather open-ended voting process that asked us to grade on a scale of 1 to 10 based on “current quality of each player” — but it can also be significant.
