Responding to the Dwight Howard talk . . .

Clearly Howard doesn’t like things with the Lakers, mainly Bryant’s ball hogging and his general narcissistic and belligerent ways which are destroying the Lakers chemistry (again). The Lakers’ original sales pitch to Howard was that Bryant would be leaving after next season and then it would be Howard’s team. The biggest problem with that pitch is that nobody thinks Bryant is leaving after next year, and the second biggest problem with it is Howard likely wouldn’t be able to stand playing with Bryant another year anyway.

So Howard is not going to re-sign with the Lakers. He almost certainly would like to play with the Chris Paul led Clippers. He even recently pointed to the Clipper’s way of playing as how the Lakers should be playing. He likes living in Los Angeles, and the Clippers will give him his best shot at winning a long string of rings, which will make him a legendary player.

The Clippers do not have to give up Bledsoe. DeAndre Jordan and Caron Butler and maybe a draft pick or two will do. If every other team knows Howard wants to sign with the Clippers, no other team will give up anything good for him as a half season rental.

So the big question is whether or not the Lakers will trade him before the deadline February 21 or wait until the end of the season and gamble they can still do a sign and trade then rather than lose him for nothing.

The Clippers need to give this their best shot.

Howard’s last game, he had 14 points and 26 rebounds while playing with a torn labrum. He’s far and away the best center in the NBA, still.
