What the heck happened to the defense that LAC played the final quarter and a half against Portland tonight in the first 2.5 quarters tonight and against PHX, OKC, and GSW?
Ever since they lost the season series to Golden State, whom they have underestimated for the entire season, their winning confidence and mentality has been completely shot. I don’t want to sound like a Debbie Downer, but I believe that the Clippers are so afraid of the Warriors right now, they think that they’ll be swept by them in the playoffs instantly. It’s bothered the Clippers to the point where every time they face a team, all they will see is the Warriors who best them 3 to 1 and have their number. The only way the Clippers can break out of their funk is by heeding the words of Princess Kitana from Mortal Kombat: “You must face your enemy. You must face yourself. And you must face your worst fear.”
They underestimated them in game 1. Th others they just got beat down. They dont match up well with them no matter how much they try to say they are not scared of them. If they end up 4/5 matchup in the first round….good luck defender their 3s.
Just under the 2 minute mark, timeout called, clippers ball and up by 6. Blazers have their starting five and clippers have EB, Griffin, Barnes, Odom and Jamal. Why wouldn’t Vinny sub Hill and Jordan for Jamal and Odom? What would you guys have done?
Jordan yes but Jamal needs to be out there.
I agree. Crawford is the only one who can create his own shot if plays break down.
I just wish it was more than just a jump shot. He doesn’t have the greatest percentage lately. Why not drive to the basket.
I think it is strength. I don’t think he’s strong enough to get to the basket. Imagine if he had the build of Eric Gordon, then he would be the complete player.
What are these “plays” you speak of? I see 4 guys standing and watching ISO Jamal.
I agree DeAndre provides the interior defense that is lacking and rebounds, and Grant Hill is a much better decision maker then Crawford, can shoot 3 of 3 tonight and plays defense.
When a team wins 17 in a row by large margins that’s th players. When you have a 9 point lead and stop pressing a tired team that’s the coach. Vinny is a lousy coach regardless of the record!!! Chris can coach better from the floor. I’m not writing this simply out of frustration I think his coaching is horrible!!! Bring in Phil Jackson and really stick it to the Lakers.
No to Phil Jackson. My guy is Nate McMillan!
We have a real team now we need a real coach.
A great coach would have ran a play and taken control of the game. A decent coach would let the players play and not get in their way even if it is at the detriment of a victory.
Has Willie Green turned into our most reliable 3 point shooter? Should he be playing the Randy Foye role come playoff time? Reliable 3 point shooting has all of the sudden became a big issue in my mind. Do we nned to make a trade for another shooter?
We do not need another shooter. We need another guy who can actually play defense.
I’m tired of little decisions that make a big difference between wins and losses. Why not put shooters out there? Is Vinny that stuck on freaking Lamar that he leaves him in when he has no jumper. DJ did well rebounding and should have gotten the nod back in. This is not about CP being out, its Vinny not being able to make critical decisions when it matters. CP is not there to bail him out. And it shows
Also, I know he makes them sometimes but I do not like how they rely on Jamal making shots. WHat was working was Blake scoring or passing after the double on Jamal. Not him going 1 on 1 and jacking up shots. Yeah he made some but he is the definition of streaky. They will die more than live by his jumper during the stretch that CP is out.
Crawford ISOs… FML
butler needs to be traded, their is no production coming out from the starting SF position!
I cannot believe that they did not go to Blake in the last few possessions of the game. I agree with Mike Smith, Jamal Crawford isos three times in a row is not a valid strategy. I hate to say this, but CP3 sure hides alot of VDN’s weaknesses. I think that VDN should be on the hot seat for next year… anyone can tell his players to do whatever they want to. We need a real coach next year, like one of the Van Gundys.
How many times can you say “They forgot about Blake” before you start looking at the coach?
just dumb to think you are playing for a championship with a coach like VDN. sadly this blog and the clippers management just wants to ignore that.
I called for VDN’s head last year. However, we are 32-12 so he’s doing something right. I am reserving judgment until the playoffs.
Yeah he’s letting CP run the show. And if something goes wrong, he makes sure CP is in the game to “calm things down” to quote him. Now that CP is not playing, he has no safety net and has to make decisions. He’s faltering right now. What I like about Pop, is he hates hero ball. The play they ran to beat the lakers to win the game is the type of stuff Clips should be doing right now with CP out. But they don’t and I put that on him
why do the clippers keep going deep in the 24sec clock down the stretch only to have a desprit shot at the end…… time after time…… doesnt vinny learn.
a lot of teams “just happen” to shoot high 3PT percentage against the Clips, I don’t think that is a coincidence.
Jamal Crawford is not the star of this team, please stop letting him shot so much at the end of game he took every shot and missed. De’Andre needs to be in the game more in the 4th quarter for interior defense and rebounds, Grant Hill at the end will make much better decisions
VDN is not a bad coach. He’s just not a great coach.
He’d be great for the Wizards or Bobcats, but not a contender
Not true. I was questioning their crunch time offense all season as well as the rotation issues. VDN is not a great in-game manager.
FRED KATZ HOW CAN U THINK AND HOPE FOR A FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A TERRIBLE COACH LIKE VDN? THATS THE FUCKING QUESTION.
After tonight’s Blake’s destruction of LA, will blazers fans acknowledge that LA and BG are in the same level (diff skills type)…
If anything though, I am less upset with the loss tonight than I am with the PHX loss. Portland is way more talented than PHX is and in 3 years, Portland will be contending for a championship. They are just one big man (post player) away from having the right personnel.
Losses happen. It’s how they are losing these games that pissing me off. Coming out sluggish, not being able to secure key rebounds that lead to 3s, not being able to defend the 3 ball (HUGE), playing 1 on 1 ball when Blake is playing so effectively on both ends, trying to run out the clock instead of running the offense. This was the game to give them their confidence back. Because I know even though they won’t admit it, they are mentally affected by this losing streak. If they can’t break out before CP comes back they are in bad shape
I was trying to find the lone compliment/moral victory amidst the criticism sandwich we had in tonight’s CBL.

It’s scary how similar this season is starting to look too last year. A shooter coming off the bench shooting at a high percentage, that then cools off(Last year Mo Williams/This Year Jamal Crawford).
And a system the coaching staff come up with that the rest of the league figures out but where VDN doesn’t make the right adjustments. Say: We gamble for steals to try to get out and run more. Well it works the 1st few weeks, now teams just move the ball better against the Clippers and now often get wide open three’s (Because we ALWAYS gamble for steals).
The worst is those isolation plays we saw VDN draw up for the last 5!!!! Possesions last night(4 Jamal Crawford), that’s how we lost so easily to San Antonio last year.
