One thing we overlook is the deep team helps so much with these small to medium injuries. The Clippers have the convenience of depth to fill the gaps and change the lineups. Now with Butler with a small injury, we’ll yet see another iteration of this deep team.
11:47 – I heard Doc Rivers say this on an ‘Inside Trax’ recently; “It doesn’t matter what type of defence you play if you can’t stay in front of your player”. That is a fundamental attribute of defence to keep your player from penetrating directly through the middle. At least you want to force them one way into a team mate. Penetration through the middle causes a rotation and open players for layups/dunks.
So speed (footwork) or length (wingspan) or a combination of both (i.e. Pippen, Iguodala, Bledsoe) is the key for good defence on the perimeter. Rarely do players penetrate straight past Bledsoe.
