Why does this team suck
Dan Woike from the OC register pointed out that when Caron was going to come in, he begged VDN to call a timeout but did not listen. If the players know something that VDN doesn’t, why do they not question him on coaching strategies and rotations?
Good question. Here’s another: did Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan ever ignore a direction or strategy from Phil Jackson and opted to do his own thing? If they didn’t, this means we could be possibly seeing a players rebellion against VDN again just like in the lockout season.
Should the Clippers run the offense through Blake Griffin?
He’s playing much better than Chris Paul and is arguably performing like a top 5 player in the league
My only thing is he hesitates way too much. He passes out a lot when he gets the ball at the free-throw line after a pick. Doesn’t posting him up every play require him to be surrounded with 3 point shooters? This team has Caron and Jamal, CP here and there.
With VDN as the coach, I would say run the offense through Blake. The problem is though that VDN likes to coach a point-guard oriented offense. He did the same thing with Derrick Rose in Chicago in running the offense through him. Blake is the best post player that VDN has ever had.
Pretty sure blake is the only post player VDN has had.
You’re right. Blake is the only post player VDN has ever had.
How is CLippers 3 pt D?
Honestly there is no good matchup for the Clippers in the playoffs. They can’t contain the opposing guards from penetrating and finding open 3 point shooters. Golden State will shoot 3s like layups, Denver would run them ragged, and Memphis will just pummel them. People will say they have time to fix it but I think the bad habits are too deep in some players to break this late in the season. ANd compound all that with the bad decisions by the coach, its just too much to overcome and that sad. With this lineup, this should not be how it goes down.
Vinny said they need to pick up the pace. Isn’t it proven that CP does not play well fast? 6 TOs for him tonight. I knew it when they kept trying to keep up with Kings pace it would not end well. Bad all around.
And what sucks is CP played 44 freaking minutes tonight. And had to face another fast guard tomorrow. SMH
What is so different about this team now compared to december when it looked like the clippers were a lock for the WCF? When did the 3 Ball defense start getting this terrible?
The 3 point defense was always this bad. Even last year it was bad. part of it was not having Bledsoe. Part of it is also DJ was in the game for a good amount of the 4th quarter and I think there is a correlation to when DJ is not in the game, there is no rim protection and guys will drive into the lane and kick out forcing the defense to collapse. Having DJ patrol the paint on defense makes guys think twice before trying to drive in. Most of the 3’s the Kings made tonight came in the 4th quarter.
With CP looking as slow as he has of late, it feels like Barnes is their only + perimeter defender. How much will Bledsoe’s eventual return do for this team? Are we finally seeing the true impact of not signing that lockdown 3 & D guy many thought they needed?
PLEASE ANSWER!!! Was not having DJ in the game in the 4th quarter a correlation to the Kings shooting so well from 3 especially because of the dribble-penetration?
Thanks for responding to my question! =) You guys got it right in the context because no DJ = no rim protection to deter dribble penetration and kick outs for 3’s
Chris Paul: 44 minutes; Willie Green 1. Why?
What us Bledsoe’s status? (Don’t say: day-to-day.)
Clippers defend the 3 as bad as anyone in the NBA, really looking like a first round out on current form, nowhere near SA, OKC, Grizz or Nuggs. How can a 50% starter this season get 1 minute when his replacement as a starter goes down 7 minutes in
I’m not trying to defend VDN, but i guess VDN wanted to have a playoff style rotation. However, when there’s a back to back tomorrow night and there is another quick and speedy pg who is an all-star in Jrue Holiday, playing CP3 for 44 minutes was unnecessary. I would have like to see Wayns get some burn tonight
If you’re a real fan, you should hope they lose in the 1st rnd only way to guarantee a new coach next yr.
VDN isn’t that good, but he’ll do what CP3 says. I can see a little more why VDN doesn’t put DeAndre in the 4th now, but still think Odom plays too many straight minutes from the middle of the 3rd to the 4th. I think the Clippers just have to get hot during the playoffs. Not much has or is going to change.
I have said this since the beginning of the season when DJ wasn’t getting his minutes in that by being benched during crunch time, DJ’s confidence will get sapped to the point where when he does get put back in in crunch time, he won’t be able to perform because he was set up to fail in the first place. DJ has shown in the past that he can knock down clutch freethrows (i.e. against Utah during that 17 game win streak which seems like eons ago). DJ can do it but he just needs the reps. By not giving him the reps, you basically tell him you’re not important enough to be playing big minutes and that you’re just a nominal starter.
