In Game 2, the Clippers prevented a total of 50 points. Game 3 was an ugly affair, a poor performance by Lob City. Today’s prevention stats:
Paul – Prevented 1 AST and a possession, had 2 steals
Billups – non-contributor
Butler – Prevented 4 PTS and a possession, had 1 block
Griffin – Prevented 6 PTS, had 3 blocks
Jordan – Prevented 14 PTS and two possessions, had 1 steal and 3 blocks
Bledsoe – Prevented 1 possession
Crawford – non-contributor
Barnes – non-contributor
Odom – Prevented 4 PTS and a possession, drew an offensive foul and 1 block
Hollins – Prevented 6 PTS, had 1 block
Turiaf – Prevented 6 PTS, had 2 blocks
They need to do better on the defensive end and clean up their offense.
who keeps track of this prenventive stats?
I’m doing it. I watch the games and see how each player’s defense works. Every time an opposing teammate misses their shot because it’s either contested or rotated properly, I give them a score. EG: if Gasol misses and Jordan made an effort to contest it, I give him 2 PTS. Do not confuse the points prevented to the ones that the Clippers actually score on.
You can also prevent assists and possessions by stealing, blocks, and/or drawing an offensive foul. This may be the only true way to determine the team’s defensive power. It might even give me a clue on why 3-point defense has been so porous this season, especially Game 3. Nobody on the Clippers prevented a 3-pointer; many of those were naturally missed shots or lucky shots (in accordance with their place in the league as last in 3-point makes).
Why is BG guarding Randolph all the time. It uses all his energy and gets him in foul trouble. It’s not like he does a better job than Odom, Hollins, Jordan, and Turriaf than guarding him. Put in 3 bigs. I think BG can guard Prince. VDN needs to go.
The coaching staff gets very little if any of the blame for tonight. The players executed poorly. They had so many sloppy turnovers and played low IQ on the offense. The defense tonight was fine as we held them to 38.8% shooting. Z-Bo and Gasol got going and I can live with that. It also doesn’t help when LAC was playing 5 on 8. MEM got 15 more FT attempts than LAC did. The reffing tonight was some of the worst I have ever seen. It was totally one-sided.
Maybe BG and CP3 would play better on offense if they didn’t use up all their energy on defense.
Mr Brightside: is this the best the grizz can do? and clips still only 5 down with 6+ minutes to go!? Game 3 is there for the taking.
i predicted clips in 5 with grizz winning this one…chris will come out firing on all cylinders on sat…
Live Question: why do you feel as if the Clippers use preferred schemes (ie: zone, 3-guard line with Paul + Bledsoe + Billups, Jordan over Odom in 4th quarter) as a last resort? Why don’t they have options to their options?
DJ is a better defender than LO and offers rim protection. I don’t know why Chauncey is in other than for shooting.
Mainly as an extra coach. When Chauncey is on the floor, the team feels relaxed and at ease, because the front court knows there’s two point guards. Without two point guards, Paul is forced to take the burden, tiring him out. Vinny brought ball handlers to divert from this situation.
why is billups starting not doing anything 4 clippers dj had a tough game along with blake but cp3 had an off game coach Vinnie had a off game as well needs 2 fight 4 his players get a technical shake things up clippers should use grant hill in the backcourt they need help rebounding and more players cutting 2 basket
Sorry we missed these guys. For whatever reason my screen was not populating any of the questions.
