Talking about Golden State’s Mike Malone with Ethan Sherwood Strauss.
Mike Malone is not the right guy for the Clippers situation. Unlike Eric S. down there in Miami, we don’t have a Patrick Riley type figure in the FO to guide the rookie HC through the rough waves, to catch up to the top flight talent on the roster. No matter what he’s still a rookie HC. I think Hollins would be smart enough to start Bledsoe and Barnes on Day 1, and play DJ in the 4th quarter. I think Hollins would let Billups go, and keep Green and work the 4 guard rotation. Paul, Green, Bledsoe, and Crawford is plenty of fire power right there. Add Hollins defensive system to the core of this team, and the Clippers will go far.
Look what Thibodeau did in Chicago. Malone is supposed to be a hard-nosed guy and he has dealt directly with NBA players for a number of years. I would rather take a chance on an assistant with promise. All of the available head coaches are unemployed for a reason – none are potential “championship” coaches. I say go with Malone or Shaw.
Get back at me with Thibs when he wins something more than an individual award, this is a team sport, ya’heard?
If you think that Hollins is a better coach then Thib, then I want to buy some of whatever you are smoking. Bulls have a limited roster, lost a top-5 player for over a year, and they still overachieved, played tough team D all year, and finshed far higher than anyone expected..
Now after these recent hires I would want Shaw or JVG, with Hollins also in consideration. Hopefully not an unemployed retread like Scott, Gentry, or Drew.
Are you serious did you watch the Spurs series – what is the difference between Hollins and Vinny – they beat us 1ce we beat them 1ce we both got swept by the Spurs – I realize something that all 4 coaches have something in common that making me really have a stand on my coaches decision – all 4 are 1 team only coaches/ they were all hot shot assistant that’s doing a great job and had new ideals – instead of a retread I want to give 1 of these new hot assistant coaches a chance – ill go a step farther – even in the semi finals 7 of 8 coaches were all original guys on there team everybody except mike Woodson – I want San Antonio hot assistant or Mike Malone personnally
Oh those games were closely contested, and we all know the Grizzlies don’t have a closer, and are void of offensive talent. Hollins got all that could be had out of Memphis. With Bud, Malone, and Hornacek (like anyone really wanted a rookie HC) off the market, the picking is getting slim. Clippers should hurry up and get permission, and offer Hollins something he can’t refuse, and prep for the draft, so this front office and new coaching staff can get on the same page already.Message to media-types, we know you don’t like Hollins, because he doesn’t buy into all those stats, and likes to apply the eyeball test. Hollins was playing music chairs with 7 and 8th men on the roster, down the bench aways. VDN couldn’t even get the starting 5 right. The Clippers would be vastly improved under Hollins watch.
