A new name materialized on the coaching front today. George Karl, newly minted Coach of the Year was let go from the Denver Nuggets as that organization continues to overhaul its staff. Sources told Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles that Karl is “very intrigued” by the open position with the Clippers.
What was thought to be a coaching race lead by Brian Shaw and Lionel Hollins (with Alvin Gentry and Byron Scott not far behind) could be expanded to include the now available Karl.
George Karl has only coached sub .500 teams three times in his 25 year coaching career, the last time in 1987-88. Check out Zach Lowe’s brief history of Karl for a terrific glance at his strengths and weaknesses.
