Well, what a game!
For games like this, should they enact a mercy rule?
Only if the Lakers got to 100 points. It’s a bonafide Scorpion FATALITY.
one day, those stupid missed dunks by DJ plus his FT are going to cost a game
Selective, eh? How about all those games where his awesome successful dunks (by the way, he leads the league in FG%, so how many could he possibly be missing?), great rebounding, team defense, and blocked shots cost the opponents? Vinny, is that you?
please stop. this is not taking away from the great things he has done, I’ve been supporting DJ from the day Doc talked about his plan, gimme a break.
but nonetheless that doesn’t make missing SO MANY easy dunks during the season something acceptable, at all.
just because I think he has been greatly improved at other things doesn’t mean I’m blind and that I’m ok with him missing easy shots just because he wants to make it an emphatic dunk.
no, that’s not ok, there are games that those points are going to be missed, even more with him not been able to hit his FT.
He wanted to emphatically dunk this game because it was a heated game against the Clippers’ co-tenants in the Lakers. DJ is more mature than that. That’s just a sign that his energy and motor are extremely high.
DJ also played great defense tonight against Kaman and Gasol
Quit being so negative. Geez.
Mullens nickname jersey: “Are you sure?”
do you guys think that Blake played well or just ok?
are you sure?
I think that 33 pts in just 12-of-15, 9-of-10 from the line, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals pretty overrated, even more in less than 30min.
I’m not sure you understand basketball enough. Blake played great defense tonight. His rotations were crisp and he contested almost every shot. His post defense on Gasol and the Laker bigs were really good. His closeouts on Laker shooters were excellent too. You could totally tell that he wanted to stick it to the Lakers tonight.
I’m not sure you understand sarcasm though, I was sure people would understand that it was clearly a joke on mimicking haters. you got it way too serious.
Considering you ripped on DJ. There was a poster by the name of Tim the last two years here I kept getting into arguments with where he kept wanting to get rid of DJ and sided with DumpDeandre. I kept pushing Tim to be patient while calling out how crappy of a coach VDN was. Tim didn’t want to be objective and believe it. Tim’s probably ecstatic knowing that I was right about DJ and happy with DJ’s performance. All DJ ever needed was a real coach who played to his strengths and gave him a consistent role. VDN wanted him to be the jack of all trades and master of nothing.
No, I didn’t ripped on DJ. He could had a 20-20 night, that still doesn’t make acceptable – only for me apparently – that he is making missed easy dunks a common place.
I get that at times you’ll go for that emphatic dunk, I’ve no problem with that, Blake has missed those too. What I can’t accept is that DJ has done that quite a lot during this season – and he was even able to turn one of those misses into a wedgie.
Again, let’s be clear. I’ve been supporting DJ ever since Doc explained his plan. I watched DJ’s improvements during US camp and how coaches praised him, how he was vocal. I watched him playing absurdly during preseason. I also preached how young guys like Blake and DJ, needed a better guidence to achieve their potential. VDN torched DJ and also put Blake in a very tiny and limited box, taking away everything that sets him apart.
And if you go to one of these recent Last Call or CBL, I’ve commented about how Simmons said that Doc saying that DJ could be a DPOY candidate was a joke and how it doesn’t look like a joke at all.
But turning missed easy dunks into something usual and normal is too stupid and unacceptable for me. I really don’t want the Clippers losing a game in the Playoffs because DJ decided to go for a emphatic dunk and missed when he could had hit it, had he done a normal dunk or lay up, I really don’t.
It’s easy to overlook something stupid when it doens’t matter, but exactly because it doesn’t matter now that it can still be corrected, if not, it will only be too late.
I’m not taking away any of the great things he has done, but my problem is that this missed easy dunks keep happenning and way too often to be ok, it’s just that. I’m not a DJ hater, I’m his supporter and for exactly that reason that I want him to stop this stupidity.
As for Blake, I just wished I could had seen a bit more minuted so he could had put even bigger numbers.
3 things people rarely if ever talk about Blake. How great Blake is stealing the ball, causing TO, I think he has been TOP #10 among bigs for the past couple of years. Nobody talks about how great screens he sets, those little things are important, even more when he sets hard screens. Lastly, although Blake doesn’t often block shots, he has been pretty good at taking charges and that’s also an important part of D.
Only thing I’d like to share is I did a cursory amount of research on this and DJ seems like he’s missing a lot of dunks but it’s closer to league average. Might just be we remember the misses more because they stand out. I may post something about it.
But stats without context doesn’t tell the story here. People miss lay ups, right? But imagine if a player started to miss lay ups because he always go for fancy ones? That’s stupid.
For me, that’s the same thing with DJ’s emphatic misses, it’s like he is going for a fancy basket instead of simply making it. I could see Pop giving him a heads up for him doing it too often, if he was a Spurs.
I’ve no problem with DJ missing dunks, it happens. People that usually throw down emphatic dunks will naturally have emphatic misses when they miss. Every now and then, a player will eventually miss a makeable dunk as well. I’ve no problem with that at all, I hardly think that I’m being unfair or unreasonable.
My problem with DJ’s missed dunks is that not only most of them were makeable easy dunks but more importantly, because it’s happening kind of often and that’s stupid, those points are wasted.
I get that sometimes there is physical contact and other things to prevent him from dunking but he also has been missing those that has no one is really contesting his dunk.
And if he just dunked or laid it in instead of going for the emphatic, there you go, extra points – because as it’s now, they are extra.
In the end, since he can’t hit FT, they ARE going to try to foul him and if they do, DJ should try to capitalize on it putting the make as a priority, emphatic misses don’t do so much for morale to worth miss it.
Bottom line: I know that people miss dunks and even makeable ones, but DJ is turning this into an art and not in a good way.
Close games, Playoffs games, those are the ones that you get more excited, right? Those are the ones that you may go for the emphatic dunk to send a message, right? Just like in Blake’s ad about “big dunks, momentum changer”. But also, those are the games that an easy basket, a miss dunk, a miss lay up will matter the most in the final score.
Sometimes after a close game loss, people go into “oh, if _____ didn’t miss that lay up in the end” and even if the player didn’t do anything fancy to end up missing, people are not so ok with that. For me, an emphatic missed dunk is like a player going fancy and missing an easy lay up. Imagine if the guy does that often? Then, it can’t be anything but stupid, those points can matter later.
I don’t use double standards so, a quick test, imagine people reaction if it was Hollins or Mullens missing so many easy dunks. Does one playing better than the other make you biased to accept stupid things? I
Oh my, such a big reply for something not really THAT important… hahaha…

lol, this somehow needs italics so people know you’re joking. or a winky face. or something.
how do I use italic on DISQUS because I won’t use a winky… hahahaha…
too bad Redick missed a lay up from that beautiful pass by Blake and what was that spin move by Blake? crazy New Blake! the excitement was the same of watching him play in his rookie season – but much better!
Did Jared Dudley seriously win two 50/50 balls in the 1st Quarter without tripping on his own shoes or was I hallucinating?
Jamison does not look at all from past couple month. Would Jamison bounce back when the playoff come around?
Is Mullens more valuable than the risk of trying out Bynum though?
Is that Louis from ROTN!!!?
Aldridge is a “solid” defender? Meanwhile Portland gives up the most points in the paint in the NBA.
Blake, Deandre, and Darren Collison all had over a 40+ plus/minus in only 30 minutes. Amazing stat line.
