During the game, Chris Paul didn’t look like himself. It seems to me that he has lost his “superstar skills.” Do you think the only way he can get him back is if he trusts Blake Griffin more, or do they need to work together dominantly like LeBron James and Dwayne Wade? Speaking of which, are there any similarities that could lead to Paul and Griffin being compared to James and Wade instead of Stockton and Malone, or Payton and Kemp? Disregard the rings, I’m talking about James needing to take over with Wade’s health declining.
you don’t lose superstar skills. he either is deferring to Blake more because of how great he played without him or is not fully recovered (which he has said as much). And now add to that a sprained thumb, i don’t know if we will see the CP we were hoping to see.
CP honestly needs to sit.
How about, as he has in the past, Chris Paul has come back from injury too soon? He did the same thing last season when he was injured in a collison with Redick (when JJ was with Orlando) and came back to the lineup despite the Clippers winning with Blake and Bledsoe.
This time around, the Clippers were winning with Blake and Collison (and Crawford) and Chris insisted that he needed to come back before the All-Star Game.
(Not to mention that we all heard him say he wanted to come back for the All-Star Game and then when he went to New Orleans and was asked about it, then he says that he came back to be with his teammates and NOT for the All-Star Game. — So, which was it?)
Now, despite saying all that, I still don’t really blame him for what’s happening these last two games. He’s certainly not deferring to Blake (nor Blake to him) but CP’s shots certainly haven’t been falling. Most of his points have come from the free-throw line.
I think the poor state of our roster may have finally caught up with us.
That’s why I’m in the belief that they need one more superstar to help reduce Chris Paul’s winning burden. Carmelo Anthony could do it (he deferred to Chauncey Billups in the 2008-09 NBA Playoffs which gave him his first Western Conference Finals appearance). Kevin Durant did it (he deferred to James Harden and Russell Westbrook, and they got him to the NBA Finals in the 2011-12 Lockout Playoffs). Dwayne Wade to LeBron James, Tim Duncan to Tony Parker (and the reverse).
Chris Paul is probably the only superstar in the NBA that has yet to defer.
Disagree, don’t think he needs another superstar. the team needs a consistent 3rd scorer. JJ is perfect but he can’t stay on the court! When JJ CP and Blake played together those 16 games, it was poetry in motion.
Yes CP came back too early. So how about he sit now and the clips have no starting backcourt?
Basically, make Griffin as the point guard, Crawford as the shooter, Barnes as the defender, any big they get, and Jordan as still center.
I didn’t suggest he sit now.
However, other than being a problem for his ego, would it be a problem for Collison to start — it was working — and CP come off the bench with the 2nd unit? Is CP3, even in his current physical condition, better than any 2nd unit PG?
I don’t see how him coming off the bench solves anything. if he’s not healthy in the starting lineup he’s not healthy enough to carry our got awful bench. i’m saying he should sit IMO. He is not helping if he’s just passing. Thats not what the team needs with JJ out. they need him to be aggressive and a scorer but if he can’t do that he is hindering than helping. I wish Doc was more like Pop in that regard. Parker played in the All star game and is now out with “various injuries”. just force him to sit down. they did so well without him, why not continue until he’s 100
So, if you bench him totally, who plays when you take Collison out? You can’t play Collison 48 minutes. (And Doc is “popping” JJ; so, at least give him credit for that.)
I thought JJ had a legit injury not a mysterious one like Parker. A bulging disc seems serious.
without guards its hard but why not go through Blake like they did before. stagger when Collison and Blake play so they are on the court at all times. what hurts is that Green is out as well but i just think CP is not where he needs to be yet. But he won’t sit and Doc won’t sit him so its a moot point
Sure CP3 had a rough shooting night but managed to put 18/14/6 and all of sudden he lost it? I bet that had they won the game, people wouldn’t be saying these type of things.
Well, just to be clear, CP3 has had two rough shooting nights since the All-Star Game that he wanted to play in. In those two games, he’s 5 of 23 from the field and most of his points have come from the free-throw line (18 of 21).
Speaking for myself, I say these kinds of things all the time, just usually not in this forum.
My point being that 2 games are not enough to reach these type of conclusions, this is clearly more loss-related than stat-related. Making out for FG% with FT is what smart players do and that’s why you can’t take away the TS% in those cases.
Against the Blazers he didn’t go to the line, but he went 10-of-15 from the field but the stat line is very similar 20/12/4, the difference being that they won.
CP3 is clearly still bothered by his shoulder for shooting, but it’s not like he can’t play. The proof he is bothered – besides the obvious low FG% – is that he is avoiding long 3s and the proof that he can play.
He was dreadful from the field against the Spurs but managed to put 11/9/4 and 4 steals, these alone are far from being his worst stat line but again, what is influencing people is the fact that they lost, not really the stat line, had they won, things would be different, that’s my point.
Chris Paul and Blake Griffin can’t play together. When will people realize this? Blake has zero freedom playing with Paul. It’s amazing that Lakers fans think he could’ve playef with Kobe.
If that is the case, who do you think Paul plays better with?
A bunch of set shooters and a big that can rebound and blovk shots. CP has always been a flawed player. PGs that play like him dont win championships. And those gns vs Philly and Portland don’t count. Philly sux and Portland doesn’t play championship caliber D. Paul dominates the ball too much. For this team to contend, he’s going to have to change his gm. 1st he needs to find his midrange J
CP would have been fine with Kobe because they would play off each other with both being able to handle the ball. Just like they can play on the US team together. Kobe would not have to work so hard and there would have been so much space to work with.
Some fans (not saying you) can cry and moan about wanting CP traded, but its funny how they don’t regard him as a top player but only want Lebron or some superstar or star package in return. Pretty funny.
Dear Revolted Panicker,
So Chris Paul comes back after the injury, he has a warm up game against Philly and then he puts 20/12/4 10-of-15 from the field against the Blazers, in the same game Blake has 36/10/1 and they are all fine and great – because they won.
Today against the Grizz CP3 shoots badly but manages to put 18/6/14 and Blake goes for 28/13/2 and all of sudden they can’t play together? They can’t play together or is it because they lost again? Would you be saying these kind of BS had they won? Zero freedom?
My gosh, listen to yourself…
If the Clippers lose to the Thunder on Sunday, it will be the first time this season that the Clippers have lost more than two games in a row.
Other than the Clippers, only Indiana, Oklahoma City, Houston and Dallas have lost less than three games in a row this season.
My feeling is that if they do lose, half of guys here in this comment section will stop supporting the Clippers – like they are barely doing right now, scrumbling, panicking, pointing fingers and shouting at the sky.
Wow, you have a very low opinion of Clipper fans.
My point in making the comment was to clarify how the Clippers have been able to maintain their position near the top of the Western Conference. Not to send Clippers fans running willy-nilly into the streets declaring the end of the world.
But, maybe you know them better than I do.
I wasn’t saying that your comment is the cause at all and I can’t say I know them better than you or anybody but I’ll tell you this, basically EVERY time Clippers lose, even more against a “rival”, there is this panicking commotion like the world is ending.
loss=panicking, as always
Why was Jamison traded away for nothing? He cost nothing and was just as competent as Turkoglu. Now there’s one less backup big and the best hope is picking up scraps from another team’s buyout. Doc partially cleaned up his own mess with Mullens, which I suppose is progress, but he didn’t use any of the trade-able assets to resolve the areas of criticism. So far it looks like he hasn’t earned the promotion. Fire Dunleavy.
Doc stated pre-game that they wanted to free up roster spots because TPTB believe that there will be a significant number of buyouts and they wanted to be in position to pick up some of those players.
Now, which players will he pick up? Hmmm…
A bird in the hand…
Steve Perrin handles your question here: http://www.clipsnation.com/2014/2/21/5434362/could-the-clippers-have-avoided-the-luxury-tax-maybe-maybe-not
Patrick, if CP is not what the clips thought they would get, then you trade him. People will trade for him. for what is the question. Don’t expect a star for an oft injured player.
got a lot of time for Patrick!
tell me, what is a hockey assist? Coming from Australia, this means nothing… enlighten me
