Game 82
Many people are uncomfortable about how long the NBA regular season is. I would say “most” people, but that would be an assumption. I do feel like I’m in a certain minority, though, when I say that I love the last night of the NBA regular season. Every year.
For one, there is no other day like it on the NBA calendar. Every team played Wednesday night, and except for the Thunder hosting the Pistons, every game was played within the conference. Some of the games actually meant something, though the Clippers at Trail Blazers game lost all meaning after Oklahoma City held on.
This brings me to my second favorite part about Game 82: seeing all kinds of players play for all kinds of reasons. DeAndre Jordan started tonight, lost the opening tip, did nothing for 1:23, and that was it. 82 starts in the bag. Respect. Jamal Crawford played just long enough to feel good about his game heading into the weekend, which was necessary. Ryan Hollins played almost 15 minutes, which was not nearly as necessary. Reggie Bullock, the only relatively young player on the team who needs this kind of game, only played 16 forgettable minutes. But still, great to see you rook.
It’s not quite Week 17 in the NFL, and I might be one of only a few people who will remember Victor Claver scoring eight points in the fourth quarter of this game. But it is still an exciting part of the season, one that is a great set up to one of the best weekends in sports.
