Any chance NBA gets rid of conferences soon?
Besides the often touched upon missing back up big where can the Clippers improve?
Chris Paul isn’t good enough. He doesn’t dominate a basketball floor the way he used to in New Orleans. Russell Westbrook dominated the floor in this series. Tony Parker dominates the floor against Chris Paul.
A superstar takes over a basketball game and a series, he doesn’t keep passing the ball to Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford instead of creating space for himself. Chris Paul is barely able to create sufficient space anymore against good defense.
He had a bunch of empty stats tonight when the game was already over. When the game was on the line he came up small over and over again.
If Chris Paul is your best or second best player your franchise is limited. He’s going to be 30 years old during the Playoffs next year. He isn’t getting better, he’s getting older and more banged up.
The next time somebody writes Point God in regard to Chris Paul they need to remember how he played in the Playoffs against Tony Parker and Russell Westbrook.
It’s been 3 years now of Chris Paul, it’s getting old and predictable. How many more years of this before something drastic happens to this roster?
And Mike Conley. He’s lost three times in both the first and second round.
lol let’s blame the 5’11 pass first point guard. That makes sense.
That’s the point.
They need another superstar with Chris and Blake or they need a more dynamic guard who can dominate the floor.
Didn’t you know that a true championship team only has 3 years to get it together before you have to blow it up. I mean if OKC doesn’t win it this year, be prepared for a fire sale of players.
How do you see the clippers addressing there wing defense and back up big men for next year? What are the realistic options?
This. The Clippers desperately need an athletic wing defender and a reliable backup big.
you can’t take the nba seriously. the entertainment part has totally swallowed the pure basketball part. it’s a shame. I’m proud of the team. I can’t say the same for the league.
Reminds me of the kids game “Red Light / Green Light.” The Clippers get fewer green lights than the Thunder and people sum it up saying, “well, they had their chances.” Clippers vs. Refs. Rivalry?
Y’all need to stop making excuses for Chris Paul.
He’s been the 3rd best player in the NBA for 5 years now.
His teammate this year finished 3rd in MVP.
And they won as many games in the Playoffs this year as Golden State did last year. One more game than Portland.
I can’t wait to be in this same exact position next year. Maybe then the Clipper organization will choose Blake Griffin and youth over Chris Paul and franchise stagnation.
You have to give OKC some credit. Their stars have been together for over 5 years now and have much more length than the Clippers.
Clipper stars have been together 3 years now.
Does anyone on here seriously believe Blake Griffin and Chris Paul have incredible on court chemistry?
They can barely run the PnR consistently, even though they dominate with it. Chris Paul isn’t John Stockton with his consistency.
But I guess everybody needs a 4th year of Blake, Chris, and DJ to really understand that Chris is the one holding them back.
On the PnR, is the second most important part of that play to actually roll? How many times did Blake pop rather than roll. Many times. And sometimes inexplicably. You need the 2nd player to do his part for there to a great duo. Theres no reason why they can’t work out. They both maybe so passive in games that it hurts them. that doesn’t mean they can’t work. I
I watch tony parker dribble on a PnR and his big men are diving to the basket with ready hands. I rarely saw space in the paint for either Blake or CP to work around. DJ’s man doesn’t have to guard him like ever! Blake is surrounded by 2 and 3 guys when he takes a step. and it hurts more when we can’t hit the jump shots.
I see people are impatient and want CP gone after 3 years. I sometimes hope he is traded (for who I don’t know since you don’t even see much value in him) so we can see just how much farther in the playoffs the team would be.
So wait. Even with Doc as the coach and a great coaching staff, a great surrounding teams, it was still on only one guy to get this team over the hump? If Blake is the chosen why, why wasn’t he chosen this year? with this crew. What will happen next year if they are bounced again?
Do you think Jamal Crawford’s time with the Clippers is over? At 35 years old he is still a tradeable asset and would clear some needed cap space to sign a player Luol Deng.
I’m going to answer with everybody is expendable. Paul needs a true superstar. According to reports, Paul Pierce is interested. He could help give the team (and Chris Paul) a member of spirit of the Big 3 that he has always wanted. But the major rumor is Paul needs Carmelo Anthony. Don’t know if it means trading the farm. But Doc Rivers has done this before: 2007, trading seven players, draft picks and cash to get Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Never trust Doc in the offseason.
100% serious question.
If on NBA Draft night this trade offer is on the table:
Chris Paul and Role Player X for Kyrie Irving and Anderson Varejao…
Would you pull the trigger for the long term good of the franchise?
Kyrie Irving is 8 years younger and would save the team long term salary to sign another important player.
You can run more of the offense through Blake Griffin. And Kyrie Irving isn’t afraid to attack and dominate offensively.
I think it would give them something to think about.
You think CP is injury prone. Kyrie has been hurt every year and has not made a bit of difference on any team he’s had, not even a little bit. Not even in the worst conference where you didn’t need a .500 record to contend for a playoff spot. You guys think its better to have a ball dominate point guard who takes a lot of shots, hope it works out for you.
Guys I suggest you google ‘cat saving kid’ video to get a cheer! put it on repeat. It alleviates some of this loss pain. Go Clips!
How do you think Blake will improve his game over the off season?
Skip Bayless of ESPN First Take continuously mocks Chris Paul for failing to get out of the second round. He even calls him CP0. This is the third time he has lost in the second round. Do you believe Chris Paul has lost his superstar status? Has he been demoted to an everyday role player? Do the Clippers need another superstar to help repair Paul’s legacy?
Does anyone take Skip seriously? CPs superstar status is intact, and when the rankings come out, he’ll still be 3rd. Clippers need to grow together as a team. As we have seen Blake’s has gotten better every year, I can’t wait to see what he brings next year. And look a DJ, soooo much better than last year, he’ll be even better.
Bayless is a nobody with an opinion. He has no credence to what CP is and will be when he retires. His words are as baseless as yours or mines when it comes to CP’s career. It is not written, so everything said has no weight. The only person that determines his future is him.
Can a Paul Pierce addition to this team bring this team closer to becoming a championship contending caliber team? Minus J-Craw I really thing he’s a goner.
The question we all want to ask! .. Is this league rigged? LebronVsMVP seems inevitable to me.
Are you worried that this season is the best chance that the Clippers can ever get to the final? Are you worried about CP3 declining as he’s getting older?
What major changes are you guys expecting on this team’s line up for next season?
A topic for discussion:
Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan have improved individually.
Can it be said that Chris Paul and Blake Griffin have improved at all as a duo?
Blake Griffin or Chris Paul take over a game, but very rarely do they take over a game together. It’s been 3 years now and it hasn’t improved.
Adams did good!
No complaints – the better team won this series… despite some poor calls and bad luck the Clips didn’t really deserve it. The good news is that after decades of missing the playoffs we are now a solid top-5 team that can contend for championships.
That being said, how much better would we have done with Bledsoe/Caron instead of Dudley/Redick?
CP called it “Stagnant”. I believe he tends to run this type of game more than often. Question: Can CP play the uptempo game that this team is made for and is what Doc is asking for? and do it on a consistent basis? a young athletic team should be running and gunning more than often. Thinking Deandre, Collison, Blake, Barnes type of lineup.
I think he was telling the team that the offense was stagnant during that scoring drought. its not a play call i don’t think.
what i meant that Doc wanted more action and CP was giving ‘stagnant’ offense. CP tends to walk the ball up and slow the rithm which is great but this team is good thinking on the fly they got trust in each other . for the most part.
I remember Doc said one day pushing the pace does not meaning running for 48 min on inbound plays. It means getting into the offense early which they did this season. Its not always just fast breaks. when they got rebounds CP pushed it or passed it up. There werent always opportunities to score so you set up the offense.
With all the praise given to Doc what can we say about how long he left JJ and Blake on the bench in the 4th quarter of the LAST GAME of the season. Why were Big Baby and Jamal out there? If VDN pulled that same waiting game he would be getting KILLED by fans and media.
Blake was in foul trouble and fouled out. That’s why he was on the bench. Not sure why Redick rode the pine in the 4th most the games this series.
Thanks to the CBL staff for riding with the Clippers all season. Always enjoy reading your stuff.
I second this! and loving the newly revamped site! They should have a donations button i tell ya’. ok ok lets not go that far! lol. In all seriousness! Thank you guys!.
That play where Chris Paul gets the ball on the ground and throws it at the out-of-bounds Ibaka. That was pretty funny.
Yet another season where the NBA enforces that it’s a star league. In terms of offense, this team is a “big 1 and 1/2.” I think CP is one of the greatest talents in the league and incredibly clever, however, he is also one the most guard-able of the superstars and therefore looks to distribute instead of being able to be a consistent offensive threat, that’s why I consider him the 1/2. Blake is the most unguardable on the team, unless you count the refs. The rest are role players. I think the Clippers need at least a second unguardable star to be a consistent offensive threat. Willing DJ to be one of the big 3 obviously didn’t work and even though you could argue Jamal is unguardable, he’s not a star. How do we get from Dudley to Lebron?
To clarify; unguardable is referring to referee treatment.
Great question! i was in the middle of typing this. From Dudley to Pierce to Lebron perhaps?.
Great job for the most part guys. You three are great. I can’t say the same for some of the other guys/gals.
Shots fired at me.
All in All the season felt a series too short! not fully satisfied in the end but Great job by Doc. Over and over he set plays during timeouts and the team delivered. He’s also a great motivator. this Ship has the right Anchors It’s only missing a few components. Great to be a Clipper fan nowadays! oh yea.. Screw the lakers! Ha!. Peace!.
Thank you guys!!! Shout out to the forever faithful Andrew Han! You manned the live show for a very long time! Love the new guys!!!
I know this sound ridiculous… but do you guys think Melo is a better fit with DJ, CP3, and Reddick than Blake?
Am I the only one that thought the refereeing, particularly by Ed Malloy was pretty blatantly horrible, directly influencing the outcome of Game Six? A guy lands on CP3′s head, I think it was Adams, flops to the ground and CP3 gets called for a foul, Westbrook slips while attempting dribble around DJ and DJ gets called for a foul. KD doesn’t ever get set and moves in front of Blake without giving him even a full step and gets the charge. Each play was DIRECTLY in front of Ed Mallow, Referee #14. There were other questionable calls as well, but I didn’t have a good enough view or see the replay to complain about them. But the above three are worthy of review, if the NBA were ever to take interest in such mundane things.
Ed Malloy….not Mallow (typo).
McCutchin (the guy who called that foul on CP in game 3 when he got in the way) said Cp hit his leg and that was the offensive foul. I mean….really
The reasons are more insulting than the fouls
No….reality is you can’t throw away a game and expect to win the series…
CBL is awesome. Thanks, all!
need more website about clippers, please check it out
Clippers need 2 trade CP3 because he may not be the right fit , he does not push the pace like the coach wants, Clippers need smart athletic wing players and a point guard that wants 2 push the pace -get younger – they need back up big that can get rebounds and give hard fouls intimidate opposition because DJ does not do it – let’s see if Doc continues 2 pick slow wash up players that nobody wants
