Matt Barnes has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for comments made to James Harden’s mother during Game 2’s loss in Houston.
It’s not unusual for the Clippers forward to get himself into trouble for running his mouth but he says this time he didn’t actually know it was Harden’s mother until DeAndre Jordan told him.
“I was like, ‘Ugh, God! That’s going to make it 100 times worse,’” Barnes told the LA Times.
Barnes wouldn’t go into details about the incident but says the pair have since “made peace”.
“We’ve spoken twice since the incident. She said something, I said something back. I’ve heard speculation of what I’ve likely said, which is crazy,” Barnes said.
It’s been an expensive season for Barnes. He’s now been fined $100,000 this season for three separate incidents.
Back in December Barnes was slapped with a $25,000 fine for kicking a water bottle and directing profanities at Wizards fans in Washington.
Earlier this year, he was fined another $25,000 for comments directed at a fan that was later revealed to be Phoenix Suns’ owner Rob Sarver.
The Clippers’ record move to 1-2 this season in games where Barnes has been fined.
