Hopefully, this is Maggette's last game as a Clipper. Like him or not, he's opting out. If he is on the roster past tomorrow that means we will get ZERO compensation for him. Cap room is nice, but it doesn't mean much unless you overpay for some other star.

Go Clippers

the only way to get a star anymore is to either overpay or to draft them. if the clips keep winning we aint gonna draft him. i think salary flexibility gives us more options, but then again, do players really want to play for the clippers? it's a double edged sword up in here.

best case scenario is a sign and trade in the off-season (actually i prefer they sign him and fire dunleavy, but that aint gonna happen). he's going to want a lot more money next year, and his best option would be to do a sign and trade to get the money he is due.

Nice win tonight.

Does anyone know what they were chanting in the 4th Qt. when Kaman was at the line?

It sounded like "we want Kwame" chants

i wonder what's going to happen with Shaun this summer. He is a restricted free agent and somebody we could've had a lot of good people if we traded him...when he was healthy (well, never really been healthy). yet this seriousy injury that hasn't happened on the nba level may keep him out this whole season and we wont be able to tell if he has recovered or not. He's probably going to want a lot of money...do we give it to him? do we sign him to a short contract to see if he is better, at which point he'd be an unrestricted free agent afterwards?

just curious as to peeps thought on this matter.

Trade deadline move to make: Sam and Aaron Williams to Devner for Nene. Imagine next season 3 deep up front with a health Brand and Nene and a much improved Kaman. No team in the NBA would have a 3 big rotation that strong.

Yes, they were chanting for Kwame.

Not trading Livingston those 3 times we could've gotten an all-star player for him are 3 of the biggest Clipper blunders in a long line of blunders.

I would let Livingston walk for nothing before I'd throw any money at him long-term. This kid is just another Grant Hill who will never ever be healthy because he is a fragile freakin' twig who can't gain muscle.

The Livingston era is over - we need to move on and bring in a top notch PG to run the ship, either via trade, FA or the draft. If Shaun is kept around it better be on a low dough club option contract - anything else would be insanity given this kid's history.
On another note - today is yet another letdown for this Clipper fan. How can you not at least trade Cassell when you know he's gone this summer and has wanted to leave for weeks? What the hell are Dunleavy and Baylor thinking?! And are these guys naive enough to believe that Maggette has any desire to extend his stay here? He may be Sterling fave player but that's not enough to make him want to stick around, especially with Dunleavy as coach.

Just sad........

The whole NBA made big moves this year, especially today.

The western conference in particular, has made big moves today but we did nothing.

Our biggest wave was possibly losing Q. Ross (whom I think is a steal for us @ what we pay) for a 2nd round draft pick from PHX.

Q.D. wrote:

Bill Simmon's trade scenario

TRADE 4B: San Antonio trades Jacque Vaughn, a 2008 No. 1 and $2 million to the Clippers for Quinton Ross and Paul Davis.

Why L.A. does it: Because Q-Ross should never be stuck on a bad team. Ever. It defies everything that makes him valuable. As a public service to him and basketball fans everywhere, the Clippers need to trade him. Plus, did I mention the $2 million? Did you see that, Donald Sterling??? That's $2 million, cash!

Why San Antonio does it: I keep hearing that we shouldn't worry about San Antonio because the Spurs are going to turn it on after the break like they always do. Have you watched them? Horry looks washed up. Finley looks washed up. Most of all, Bowen isn't the same defensively anymore -- maybe you haven't noticed, but guys can beat him off the dribble now and he's relying on that tripping/clutching/pushing routine more than ever. I can't see the Spurs winning anything with three washed-up guys playing big minutes in the playoffs. They need to do something. And if that's not enough, this is the perfect place for Ross -- he can learn all of Bowen's tricks before he takes his job. I hope this one happens.

(Note: I apologize for including all these Clipper-related trades, but every time I go to one of their games, I leave thinking that they should be sponsored by the ESPN.com Trade Machine. Pretty much every guy on the team is a terrible fit except for Kaman. You have to believe me. Even the coach is a bad fit. Really, it's been a delightful season. So glad I renewed.)

Cleveland, Chicago and Seattle made a blockbuster deal plus another couple other moves by Houston and Memphis...meanwhile, things stay status quo upstairs at Chick Hearn Court and Figueroa Street. No suprising that Old Man Baylor and Micromanager Mike didn't make any moves.

What a rip...no trades...I guess we won't have anything to look forward next year. We didnt even make the playoffs last year with a healthy team, we definitely won't make it again next year and the years after that. This franchise is so frustrating on how they don't do anything. Look at the Lakers when they traded Shaq. They recovered in 3-4 years tops. This Clipper team never reached what the Lakers reached even though they have been trying to improve since their move from Buffalo... Man, why am I such a fan of this loser team. PATHETIC

Spoken like a true Clipper Fan, "At least where getting a number one pick" Look, the Clippers have been getting great opportunities for the past decade, even in the past five years and what happened to the franchise? Nothing. The most succesful thing that the franchise has ever done was getting to the semifinals which is pretty sad. If you ask me, unless Sterling sells the team, and we change our GM, this team will forever be the doormat of the league. I really like this team but every season, especially this season, I feel like I'm getting pounded in the chest when I watch them play. Poor executions, giving away wins they can win. Is this all this team can give you? They give you hope in the beginning of the season and then they just take it all away from you? I've only been a fan for only five year now, and so I really admire those people that still supports this team, this FRANCHISE if you can even call it that, for 10, 15, or even more. I guess Clipper fans just likes to suffer. :-]

Actually there is a difference now because Sterling is spending more money on the team now. Look at how much he's paying Dunleavy. He wouldn't have done that 5 years ago. The Clippers total salaries are in the middle of all teams, not at the bottom now.

Makes no sense to make trades for this season, so the only hope is the draft pick and trades/free agents after the season ends.
Trading Maggetti and Cassel would have been hard because of their salaries and I doubt they could have gotten much for them.

Are you serious? There is NO market out there for a 20 point scorer who makes 7 million a year? There are 10 teams in the west that would have at least considered giving up a draft pick and a crappy expiring contract for the chance to rent Corey for 3 months.

Give me a break. If this was the first time Elgin didnt do anything, i'd understand. But the team is a mess and has no direction.

I'm fucking annoyed.

What are the clippers going to do with a draft pick above 25? Yeah they could have done something, but it's not a big deal. It's not like a high 1st round pick is really going to change anything.

ACD wrote:

Any draft pick is worth more than ZERO. Which is what they are going to get out of losing Maggette and Cassell. Besides, last I looked there are some GREAT bargains late in the draft... can you say Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, Gilbert Arenas?

Plus, losing these players would have resulted in better draft position next year. Since this year is a complete waste of time as far as the playoffs are concerned.... you have to be thinking of next year. So you play thornton 35 minutes a game, make Kaman get his confidence back, nurse EB and SL back slowly...and that's it. Everything else doesnt really matter.

Well it seems like they want to keep Maggette, so it's not zero. I don't think he'll want to stay, but I'd rather have a shot at keeping him than a late draft pick.

on another note, i am NOT going to the game tonight because anytime the Clippers play the Utah Jazz or the San Antonio Spurs, it's not even a contest.

All this Dunleavy bashing---At least Alvin Gentry is NOT our coach.

I remember 4 or 5 years ago...the Clippers up 2 against the Kings... with 10 seconds left. Vlade is backing down Olowakandi on the low block... 6 seconds left... still dribbling... GENTRY yells instructions to Olowokandi "FOUL NOW! FOUL!". Kandi intentionlly fouls Vlade. Vlade hits 2 free throws, and the Kings destroy the young clipps in overtime.

kill me.

The Clips could clear some cap room [though I urge them not to spend it on the Westside Rentals loon], and rid Staples of his once-endearing, but increasingly tiresome shtick. As I told Abbott this morning, I'd trade Darrell Bailey for a deli spread and three cubic liters of pre-jump-ball talc.
